Trouble closing card
Complaint: In XXXX 2017, someone gained access illegally to my Serve account by American Express and proceeded to not only delete the funds in the account, which was {$72.00}, but also gained access to my XXXX Checking account which was used as a funding source to the tune of {$1200.00}. American Express refused to immediately close my account, as it was compromised. As a result, I had to close my accounts with XXXX XXXX and open XXXX different accounts, as my original accounts were compromised as well. American Express then blocked access to my Serve Account, responding that I had violated Section 16B of the Terms And Agreement. I have not received a refund for my account that was closed, nor did American Express protect my Serve Account from being hacked, and thus compromised.

Sent card you never applied for
Complaint: On or around XXXX XXXX , 2017, I cal led an American Express customer service representative to ask whether I could upgrade my Amex Everyday card to the Amex Everyday Preferred card. I was interested in finding out if there were any promotional offers associated with upgrading my card. I specifically used the word " upgrade, '' and it was clear from the context of my request that I was requesting a product change from the lower version of the card ( Everyday ) to the higher version ( Everyday Preferred ). At no time did I ask for a new card account. The representative appeared to understand my question and told me that there was an offer that would allow me to upgrade the card and receive XXXX membership rewards points if I spent {$1000.00} on the card within the fir st three months of us ing it. I agreed, and I made sure with the rep that this upgrade would not result in a hard pull on my credit score. The rep said that she was n't sure, but she thought it would be a soft inquiry rather than a hard one. Again, this led me to believe that she was in fact processing my application as an upgrade ( i.e., product change ) and not as an application for a new card account. When I opened m y Everyday Preferred ca rd on Monday, XXXX XXXX , 2017, I real ized that the representative had in fact processed my application as an application for a new card account, and not as a product change. American Express had done a hard pull on my XXXX credit report. This hard pull, in combination with the new card account, caused my credit score to fall at least XXXX points with all XXXX credit reporting agencies. Making matters worse, the email the representative sent me after our c all ( atta ched ) included the la st five digits of the Everyday card account that I was attempting to upgrade ( XXXX ) instead of the las t five digit s of the new card account that was apparently opened later ( XXXX ). On XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX , 2017, I call ed American Express to as k what they could do about this, but the representatives I reached diverted me from department to department until a representative diverted me to an automated line, which then hung up on me.

Problem with rewards from credit card
Complaint: We opened the American Express Simply Cash Business C redit Card on XXXX / XXXX / 2016 with the offer to get a {$250.00} statement credit for spending {$5000.00} within the first 6 months of card membership. This offer was good for applications submitted through XXXX / XXXX / 2016 . We spent {$5000.00} in the allotted time period, whi ch American Express confirmed for us on several occasions. However, we never received our statement credit. Had AmEx open an official case to investigate. They nev er contacted us back. I called them to inquire. They had closed the case saying they could n't track our card opening back to the proper source code. I asked to speak to several levels of supervisors until I was told that there was no one there who could assist me, but that I would receive a call back with in 48 hou rs. Now, a few months later, I am still waiting. This is unacceptable. I have wasted so many hours over the la st six mo nths trying to get this resolved.

Problem with fees
Complaint: I was approved for and activated an American Express ( Delta Platinum ) credit card onXX/XX/XXXX, and incorrectly assumed that the annual fee of {$190.00} would be waived for the first year and that I would receive a companion certificate for airfare purchase. Once I found that out, I called in more than once to speak with Customer Service, to see if that could be negotiable. I was ultimately told NO on XX/XX/XXXX, and so on that date I cancelled the card and closed the account, and paid off, on that same date, the {$1200.00} that I owed in purchases that I had made ( minus the {$190.00} annual fee that I had decided NOT to pay since I was not going to keep the card ). Now, keep in mind that I had already, on XX/XX/XXXX, paid off the first statement I received for {$250.00} - which included the {$190.00} annual fee ). Then, I asked AMEX to simply allow me to do that and have us be " done with each other. '' Again, on that same date, they said NO - that I still owe the {$190.00} annual fee, plus {$34.00} in fees & interest. Keep in mind that I only had the card for 6 weeks! I followed up by letter, again requesting that, since I paid off what I purchased, and had cancelled the card, to please close all business between us, to which they responded by letter, again saying NO - that the charges were correct. <P/>Now, what can I do? I am getting monthly statements, with additional fees & interest, for a credit card that I have already closed, paid off purchases for, and I feel both harassed and trapped. Can I stop all of this without having to pay these charges that I disagree with? The most recent XX/XX/XXXX statement has me " owing '' {$270.00}!

Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Complaint: American Express re fuses to issue statement credit for card opened during eligible promotional period. XXXX XXXX XXXX My original inquiry to the Customer Service department has resulted in 2 inte rnal ' investigations ' that were both closed without any correspondence to myself by a representative of American Express. My follow ups have failed to resolve the issue. The account is eligible as per the above press release verbatim and the promotion was the defining reason I applied for the account.
I attempted to resolve this issue with help from the Better Business Bureau ( c omplaint # XXXX ) bu t that was met with no investigation to the actual issue and just passing 'notes ' back and forth between the company which is something I was capable of doing myself. The first attempt was a mailed letter from them in attempt to reach the default timeout period against the complaint. The details on their very own press release ( link included in the original complaint message ) dated XXXX XXXX , 2016 states very plainly that " New Card Members who apply by XXXX XXXX , 2016 can earn up to {$200.00} cash back in the form of statement credits '' and that " Additionally, new Card Members will also earn {$100.00} cash back in the form of a statement credit ''. My account is eligible for those promotions based off opening my card prior to the specified end date and meeting the purchasing requirements ( all Wireless Phone Service payments for th e remainder of 2016 were made via the referred card and the second requirement of making {$1000.00} in purchases during the first month of membership was also met ).
