Complaint: On XXXX XXXX , 2017 I did a balance transfer of XXXX . I called american express and was told that counted towards my payment for XXXX XXXX . Ion XXXX XXXX , 2017 I ca lled them to make my XXXX XXXX payment. I was told I could use my blue rewards cash rewards as part of my payment, so I did this and made an additional XXXX payment. On XXXX XXXX , 2017 I g et a call saying I am late with my payment. I set it up to come out on XXXX XXXX . Then I looked up my account and remembered I made my payment, so I called back and was then told my balance transfer and my blue rewards did not count as a payment.his is completely wro ng 4 people told me four diffe rrrnt thing.

Complaint: I opened my own business about 3 months ago and took out an American Express Business Gold card, based on the promise that I would receive XXXX bonus points if I spent more than {$5000.00} during the first three months. I spent the {$5000.00} but noticed my points balance remained at XXXX . Today, XXXX XXXX , 2017, I contact ed American Express about this issue and after being bounced around to 4 pe ople, was given every excuse in the book ( i.e. the program has ended, the promotion was for either no annual fee the first year or the points and you chose the no annual fee, etc. ). I told them my partner had taken out his card around the same time and got the points, that even as I spoke to them on the phone I could access their website offering the promotion, that there was no option of which promotion I would select ( and if there was I would obviously take the XXXX points over a {$170.00} annual fee waiver ), but nothing seemed to matter. I then told them I wanted to cancel the account, which I did. I believe that these kind of bait-and-switch campaigns must be confronted as many people do not have the the time or energy to deal with it, and will simply ignore it.

Unexpected increase in interest rate
Complaint: In XXXX of 2016 I moved from XXXX XXXX to XXXX XXXX and during the busy move missed my monthly payment. As a result, my account received a penalty APR that double d my original APR and raised my monthly payment substantially. I had made several charges related to the move and at first thought the subsequent increase in monthly payments was a reflection of the purchases charged to the account, when in actuality it was the result of the penalty APR that had been placed on my account. When I had learned it was due to a penalty APR I contacted American Express and told them why I had accidentally missed a payment, I was told they could not remove the penalty APR and I would have to wait for the APR to return to its original rate. Over the last 10 months that this penalty APR has been in effect it made paying my monthly bill difficult a nd resulted in a late payment which apparentl y further extended the time my account would be subject to the penalty APR. I have called numerous times requesting the penalty APR be removed and have been told each time by the service representative they are unable to remove the penalty APR and I must wait. This is an unacceptable punishment for an accidental missed payment. Due to the high interest charged each month o nly a small percentage of my monthly payment is applied to my account 's overall principal balance, effectively keeping my balance at practically the same amount each month. I have been an American Express member for 9 years a nd this is a poor reflection on their commitment to helping their customers manage their debt effectively.

Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Complaint: XXXX has been removing positive credit accounts from my credit report for the past several months and has been refusing to reinstate those accounts back onto my credit report. With this negligence it has cost m y credit score to p lummet substantially. They have as of today XXXX XXXX ,2017 removed my XXXX , American Express, XXXX XXXX , XXXX XXXX , XXXX XXXX , XXXX XXXX is reporting as a defaulted student loan even though it is a credit card account that is open and not closed. I have contacted all the Data Furnishers and they have all re-reported the accounts and XXXX has yet to re-insert the information. This is wrong on so many fronts. This has cost me to my house that I was trying to purchase and has put everything on hold. This has to be taken ca r of ASAP .

In the process of new job and moving I incurred a couple late fees of a few days which I paid. I then find out they jacked my interest rate to 29.9 % and my monthly payment was getting me nowhere. At any time in my life I never not paid my credit card bills. I tried to resolve this with them and they were pretty obstinate, so I have cancelled my account, but felt I needed to complain about the unfair gouging they have done to me.

Complaint: Attention : CFPB Re : AMEX BLUE FOR BUSINESS XXXX Back in XXXX , Am ex Blue ran a promotion that offered XXXX points after first purchase and XXXX for the first {$2000.00} spent in restaurants in the first 6 months. I was not familiar with this card initially but when I saw the generous offer advertised online, I applied for it and eventually got approved. For the past XXXX months, I had been spending a lot of money towards restaurants ( almost {$1 000.00} ) w ith the intention of maximizing this bonus. A few weeks ago, I decided to check my profile to monitor the bonus that I had received so far. To my dismay, I learned that I was not getting the restaurant bonus I expected to receive. I made a total of XXXX attempts to rectify the issue, including requesting for the case to be escalated and explaining to a supervisor my concern. All attempts have been futile. AMEX kept on telling me that I applied for an inferior bonus, which only provides XXXX after the first spend. I had tried to explain where I am coming from. a. First off, why would I, with my intact judgment, apply for a much inferior bonus? I know the credit card that I applied for. I would not have applied for this credit card and risk impacting my XXXX XXXX if I were only getting the XXXX bonus. It was just not worth it. However, with the generous bonus, I felt compelled to sign up. b. If I applied for the inferior bonus of XXXX after the first spend, why did I continue to spend a lot of money the next XXXX months in restaurants? I could have easily just bought a bottle of water, get the bonus, and sock away the card. My spending behavior points to the fact that I was under the impression that I am getting the XXXX points/dollar in restaurant spend because that was the credit card I applied for. I have a few other credit cards that would have given me a restaurant bonus but I still chose to use this card. c. I applied for this credit card during the promotion period, which ran until the end of XXXX . As I had mentioned, I am not familiar with this card and had no idea they offered multiple versions. I know for a fact that I applied for the generous bonus because I would not have done it if I were only receiving the paltry XXXX points after the first spend, when there are other superior offers available out there. d. I have been applying for credit cards for many years. I know what I applied for. I have no idea what happened with my application but AMEX kept on telling me I applied for the same credit card with a significantly inferior bonus. That was so difficult to understand, but evidently, something occurred that was beyond my control between my online application and the system that approved it. e. I will not be devoting so much time, calling 3 times and writing this letter advocating for this cause if it were not the right thing to do. Thank you so much for protecting us, CFPB.

Complaint: While reviewing my AMEX SERVE account, I noticed some charges that I did not make. I called customer service who put me in touch with their fraud protection division. I asked for a review of the {$160.00} charge to XXXX, a company Inever heard of, and they suggested I close the account and get a new card. The next day XX/XX/XXXX, I received an e-mail saying my dispute was declined. 1 minute later I received another e-mail saying my account had been locked and suspended for violation of the card agreement. I sent a letter asking for proof of the charge but have not yet heard back. OnXX/XX/XXXXI called to find out the status of my new card but was told only that my account was suspended for improper use. AMEX suspended my account at their suggestion since we thought the account was compromised. Yes the card was used in violation but NOT BY ME. AMEX has not provided documentation of the charge in question and decided to not send me a new card without informing me.

Complaint: American Express ( Amex ) fraudulently attached to my Gold account seven ( 7 ) unauthorized users with their own credit cards numbers. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT NONE OF THE UNAUTHORIZED USERS WERE EVER KNOWN BY, OR ASSOCIATED WITH ME. Amex told me that the unauthorized cards were " attached to my account '' by Amex 's computer. Before these unauthorized cards were attached to my account, I had in excess of XXXX points. The unauthorized users eventually drew my points down to XXXX. Amex told me that my points were " used for XXXX purchases '' and travel. At this time, my XX/XX/XXXX statement indicates that I have a NEGATIVE XXXX POINTS. I began contacting Amex in XX/XX/XXXX. They finally reissued a new credit card number in XX/XX/XXXX, BUT THE SAME UNAUTHORIZED/UNKNOWN USERS WERE STILL ON MY ACCOUNT. At this time I requested paper copies of my Amex statements dating back to XX/XX/XXXX so that I could scrutinize each transaction, etc. I have yet to receive copies of my statements. Amex continues to deduct points from my account to 'pay back ' points that I NEVER USED. At one point, an agent told me the matter was closed and that my account had XXXX points. Sadly, my ill husband and I wanted to take one last trip together. Of course, I had counted on plenty of points for the airline tickets. Without these points, we are unable to take this trip. Rather than try to help me, they have now reduced my point balance to XXXX for reasons I do not understand, nor can they explain.

Complaint: on XXXX XXXX I received a call informing me after 30+years of u sing my American Express card they put a hold on my card until I will give them permission to go through my I R S ta x returns .I have never been late on a payment and have generally either paid the full amount or more than the amount due ever month. I informed them I was out of state and was using my card for motel & gas. They gave me no reason for this action beyond they want to know my income and they will decide if I can afford this card. I DO NOT think that is their decision to make as long as I am making my payments!!!! I feel they are judging me on my age and XXXX . I am XXXX and no longer have a high income but I have been XXXX for several years and am managing fine, they have no idea what I can afford.
