Complaint: I made purchases and wired money totaling {$10000.00} to XXXX XXXX whom I met online and had been communicating with since XX/XX/XXXX. He said that he would reimburse me by making an online payment to my American Express credit card and I agreed.
XXXX XXXX made an online payment of {$21000.00} to my American Express account on XX/XX/XXXX. I asked him why the payment was more than what he owed to me. He stated that he needed me to make purchases for him since he was working in a remote area of XXXX and had been mugged. He needed to sell the items, gift cards and XXXX, to raise money to pay his bills in XXXX return to the US. He said that he only had online access to his banking accounts but had no way of retrieving the funds at his location since he lost his IDs and credit cards during the mugging.
I called American Express customer service on XX/XX/XXXX prior to making any purchases on my account. I specifically asked if the {$21000.00} deposit had cleared and if the funds were available. I was told that the deposit had cleared and the funds were available because the deposit was made online. I began to make the purchases that XXXX XXXX requested of me, only because the information that I was given. I believed that the deposit into my account had cleared.
XXXX XXXX made a second deposit of {$13000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX and a third deposit of {$7500.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. The amount of deposits made into my account totaled {$42000.00}.
XXXX XXXX XXXX, an employee of American Express called me on XX/XX/XXXX inquiring about the deposits and purchases recently made on my account. I explained the full situation to her. She suggested that I was a victim of a scam. I gave her all the information that I had including names, phone numbers and addresses of the people that I shipped the merchandise to. I stressed that I called customer service to verify that the deposit had cleared prior to my making the first purchase. XXXX XXXX XXXX informed me that I would be responsible for making payments to cover all the charges on my account. I spoke with XXXX XXXX XXXX one or two times following the initial call.
I called Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on XX/XX/XXXX to explain what had happened and was given the contact information for the Federal Trade Commission and the web address consumerfinance.gov. I was given an Inquiry Reference Number XXXX for my call.
I called the American Express Fraud Department on XX/XX/XXXX and spoke with XXXX XXXX XXXX. She said that this wasnt a matter of fraud because I had made the purchases on the account. I explained that I did not agree that I should be held responsible for the charges since I called American Express first to verify the deposit. I asked her how I could escalate this with American Express. All that I was given was the web address to file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center within the FBI, www.ic3.gov.
I am asking American Express to wave the charges made to my account following my conversation with customer service on XX/XX/XXXX where I was told that the deposit had cleared and the funds were available.

Complaint: American Express has froze all of my MR points across all of my cards. I was not given notice or a reason why my points are being held for review. Their reps would only tell me they will be held for 6-8 weeks ; reps would n't tell me when the beginning of this 6-8 week " review '' period began so there 's no way to extrapolate when it will end.

Complaint: I applied for a credit card with American Express and got their Gold Card that has to be paid off at 30 days. I called to tell them that I did not want this card and they took my application for a Blue card and received that one. My SS number was used to back this card for XXXX XXXX XXXX. When I left XXXX XXXX, there was a balance on the Blue card so it was paid off and I closed that account.
Until yesterday, XX/XX/XXXX I did not realize that my former partner made charges on the previously closed account. I never received written notice of the unpaid balances because the bills and all other notices went to XXXX XXXX XXXX.
Amex kept calling my parents home about a balance due but I knew the balance was paid and the accounts were closed and didn't know what was going on. Apparently the account was sent to a collection agency and after speaking with them on XX/XX/XXXX I discovered that they were referring to charges made in XX/XX/XXXX, on an account that had been closed. Since I have no access to the mailings to XXXX XXXX XXXX, I never got the late notices, billings, collection notices, etc. The woman who runs XXXX XXXX XXXX tells me that AMEX randomly sent a card to her with here name on it. She was only the authorized user, no authority to re-open the account, even if that is AMEX 's policy. My credit has now been ruined and I can't even be told what the balance is for, not will they provide me with the account number, etc. I don't have an account number from AMEX or the collection agency to even verify what they are discussing. They are charging me without providing me what they are charging against my social security number. I want XXXX XXXX XXXX to stop calling me.

Complaint: My American Express Bluebird card had prepaid balance of XXXX. I asked them to transfer the money to my bank account on XX/XX/XXXX. As of XX/XX/XXXX, they have still have not transferred the funds. I have done this in the past and it usually takes 1 or 2 days. I have made numerous calls to customer service, only to be told they are having technical issues and it will be resolved tomorrow. As of XX/XX/XXXX I was told it would be the XX/XX/XXXX at the earliest. I asked them if they would just credit the money back to the card to be told they can not do that. Finally I asked to be sent to customer service in the United States, they told me they can not do that and then put me on hold to be left there for 2 hours with no one answering the call. I then called back to a different customer service rep to go through the whole situation again.

Complaint: American Express cancelled my credit account because of security concerns they said. They said they told me to verify the charges which I did through app before I stopped using their app and was paying of my debt through my debit account. They cancelled it by saying they asked me to verify the charges in 15 days but I never received a e-mail or mail stating I need to take action. My history has badly been affected and I am not in the position to pay off my whole debt Without using credit card at sometimes. Complaint: I sales person from American Express called me and offered me a card that provided 3 % cash back on one type of item, 2 % back on another type and 1 % back on all other items.
They said I would not actually get cash but would get points that I could spend like cash on XXXX or for purchasing gift cards.
I was lead to beleive that XXXX XXXX was worth XXXX XXXX. I could buy a {$29.00} item for {$2900.00} points. That is simply not the case. I switched my bills from a true 1 % reward card with XXXX to this phony reward card and now I have to switch everything back.
In addition, American Express does not have a way for you to verify they are awarding the points accurately. I could n't do it from my online account and customer service could not show my how. You are just told your total with no way to verify its accuracy.

Complaint: I requested a withdrawal by check and it was to be sent to me with my name as the payee. I have not received the check. The check was made on XX/XX/XXXX in the amount of {$100.00}. Transaction ID XXXX.
On XX/XX/XXXX, I spoke with XXXX at American Express. XXXX. I requested a stop payment of the check. XXXX told me that an investigation would need to occur that would take 10 days. I told her that I wanted to file a dispute and was told that an investigation needed to occur. I told XXXX that an investigation was not necessary as the check was made out to me, sent to my address, and that I did not receive it. Absolutely, nothing but it will at least take 10 days for the investigation and another 10 days to appear in my account.
I can not get through to these people, that this is not how it should work. It is purely unethical how they hold onto funds.
This company is purely unethical. Because their agreement states that they can hold funds for 7 days+, they do.
Another example of unethical business is XX/XX/XXXX I made a return to XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$180.00}. The transaction appeared on my XXXX statement XX/XX/XXXX ; however the funds were not available on XX/XX/XXXX. I called and asked and they told me that they needed to do an investigation. I requested what the investigation was as I was concerned that perhaps my information had been hacked. Then I was told that my cardholder agreement states that they can hold onto the return funds and they did for 10 days. Although it " appears on my card '' as a transaction of XX/XX/XXXX, it was actually 10 days letter before the funds were available.
This company is sitting on consumer 's money for their profit. The money is making interest for American Express not the consumer. Very unethical.

I received an email encouraging me to refer friends/family to apply and receive XXXX bonus miles once they were approved. I referred my significant other on XX/XX/17. She applied directly with the link i sent her and was instantly approved. I've called both Delta and American Express countless times without ever receiving the miles.

Complaint: An item I purchased using my American Express credit card was returned which created a credit on my account. Since I had a XXXX balance, I contacted American Express and requested that this credit be refunded to me. They refunded the credit of {$290.00} by directly depositing it into my Checking/Savings account. A couple days later while reviewing my account, I noticed that I now had a {$290.00} balance and the transaction was coded as a " DB ADJ CREDIT BAL REFUND ''. I immediately contacted American Express to inquire about this charge that had posted to my account. They told me that this error would be corrected in 24-48 hours. The following day, I received a check # XXXX dated XX/XX/2018. I contacted American Express and asked them if I should destroy, or return the check. I was advised to destroy the check as they had already started a stop payment. After the 48 hours expired, I still noticed that my account still reflected a balance so I contacted American Express once again. I was then told that they would have to do an investigation and that would take 6-8 weeks. I explained that this time-frame is unacceptable because it would appear that I was using available credit which in fact I was not and my balance with them should be XXXX. Additionally, I explained that this was their error and why should my credit history be subject to this AMEX error. In addition, I did n't want a finance charge or any fees resulting from their error as my balance should be XXXX. I asked them why my account did not reflect the credit reversal within the time frame that I was told. AMEX keeps giving me different timeframes of when this will be resolved.
