Complaint: XXXX 's client XXXX XXXX is an identity theft victim. Her information was used without her consent to apply for credit cards with American Express and XXXX. While no accounts were established the application left fraudulent inquiries on her credit reports from both American Express and XXXX. A formal dispute was sent to each bank concerning the fraudulent matter ( XX/XX/2018 ) however as of this date neither bank has notified my client of the outcome of the investigation which is an FCRA violation.

Complaint: I applied for an AMEX Blue Preferred Cash credit card online on XX/XX/2018 and was promptly denied. I was stunned and called to find out why. After several calls and departments I was told a prior bankruptcy showed a balance over $ 10k. My bankruptcy was filed 13 years ago and was showing this on all of my credit reports for AMEX. I assumed it was some kind of serious internal error. I had to wait until Monday to talk to the Research Dept and thought it would get straightened out. The Research Dept explained that they keep the information on file and can deny credit due to the previously charged off balance. I asked for how long, and she said " FOREVER ''. Forever?!?! Did she say forever? I was in stunned silence. I finally said, the purpose of a bankruptcy is to give someone a fresh start. I have no interest in doing business with AMEX. Thank you. I was under the impression that once the 7 or 10 years is up it is no longer an issue. I have excellent credit now, in the 800 's and don't carry any debt other than the condo I bought a year ago and a used car payment. I applied with XXXX today and was immediately approved at their LOWEST interest rate offered for that card even though they were in my bankruptcy too. I also work for a XXXX company that services Credit Unions. I have a XXXX. in XXXX. But I don't need that to know that this is XXXX. I'm beyond offended and feel this practice of keeping discharged bankruptcy information FOREVER, when companies don't even keep data for that long on ANYTHING else is unethical and unfair. I was in my late 20s and had never ever paid a bill late until I went into business with someone who didn't do what they were supposed to do and was left with everything in my name. It was not characteristic of my financial history before or after that. It's absolutely appalling to me that AMEX has given me a life sentence arbitrarily, without considering my financial picture the other 42 years of my life where everything has been immaculately spotless. Their loss, I have XXXX now and plan to use that card for everything I buy to get the cash back and will pay it off monthly. I'm disappointed in AMEX for being so impersonal. I want to know from the CFPB if this is ethical and if this is legal according to the CFPB and other financial governing agencies. I'm also going to ask a class action lawyer. I also work for the XXXX of the Legal, Compliance, Accounting and Finance Depts at work and will find out the best way to get to the bottom of this unfair practice. Good luck, AMEX. This won't be swept under the rug for long. This isn't the first complaint on this site against them on this very issue. Time to put an end to this.

Problem during payment process
Complaint: I paid my American Express balance in full between 2 payments - 1 ) XX/XX/XXXX {$300.00} in rewards cash and 2 ) XX/XX/XXXX {$11.00} in online payment from by bank account. Balance due on my account was {$310.00} from my statement printed XX/XX/XXXX with payment due date of XX/XX/XXXX.
American express credited my account by {$310.00} ( paid in full ), but is reporting my account as 30 days past due because I used American Express reward dollars as part of my minimum due ( {$35.00} ). My account has been paid in full nearly EVERY month since XX/XX/XXXX. My XX/XX/XXXX statement shows my account paid in full of {$310.00}, but American Express is not honoring their own reward dollars as payment.
I made a similar combined payment for myXX/XX/XXXX statement - {$150.00} in rewards dollars and {$19.00} ( minimum payment was {$35.00} ) from my bank account and American Express accepted my payments as bringing my account to a XXXX balance and did not increase my minimum due.
I have paid my account in full - {$150.00} in debit from by bank account and need my reward dollars back from American Express in the form of a check.

Complaint: I disputed a {$290.00} charge from XXXX XXXX with AMEX twice ( Ref Nos : XXXX and XXXX ) but AMEX never understood my questions. Here is the situation : we are XXXX XXXX card holders and we stayed at XXXX XXXX between XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX. Upon checking in, we provided our credit card for possible incidental charges and requested if an upgrade is available. We were given the upgrade and we know, as a benefit of XXXX card owner, the upgrade is free if available. Obviously, it is available. When checking out, no one asked us to sign any credit card slip. We found out later we were charged {$290.00} for the requested upgrade so we disputed the charge. So far, no one from AMEX even address our real concerns : 1 ) why were we charged for the available upgrade when it is part of the benefit ; and 2 ) we never authorized such charges and we never signed the credit card slip for this charge. I am hoping to get some answers since in those two disputes I mentioned, XXXX XXXX simply presented some internal record and a copy of UNSIGNED credit card slip. I hope AMEX can finally understand my questions and address them directly.

Problem getting a working replacement card
Complaint: In early XX/XX/XXXX, I received a replacement card in the mail because my American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles credit card expired. I activate this card as usual.
On XX/XX/XXXX, I misplaced my card. I called American Express to cancel the card and send me a replacement. 30 minutes later, I found the card. I called American Express again in an attempt to get them to cancel my request. After a 20 minute+ conversation, I was told that because of security, this was not possible. I agreed to wait for a new replacement card. I asked the customer service agent to at least expedite the card so that I don't have to wait longer to use my credit card.
XX/XX/XXXX/XX/XX/XXXX - I received two replacement cards in the mail. I only requested one, but the previous customer service agent must have made a mistake. I ignore this security problem, and I chose to activate the card received in the mail ending in XXXX. This card was the last card received. I cut up the other replacement card.
On XX/XX/XXXX, I made an online purchase with the card ending in XXXX. In early XX/XX/XXXX, the card ending in XXXX stopped working. Because of past issues with customer service, I decided to ignore the problem until later.
On XX/XX/XXXX, I called American Express Customer Service to change account address because of a recent move. American Express informs me that the card they have on file is different from the card I have ( the one ending in XXXX ), and this other card was sent on XX/XX/XXXX. They tell me that they have to send me a new replacement card to my current billing address. However, I was making the call because I needed to change my billing address. The customer service agent did not address the major security problem with having a different card on file. The only option they gave me was to send me yet another replacement card. Because of the decline in their customer service and my growing concern for account security, I cancelled my account.

Complaint: The date : XXXX the amount : XXXX XXXX points The process : Since I own an American Express ascend XXXX credit card, I should get XXXX XXXX points if I refer this card to my friend successfully. Then I refer this card to my friend and he applied successfully. After he satisfied all the requirement to get the reward, he had all the points he should get. However, I DID NOT receive anything from American Express. Then I called the American Express customer service twice. The first time I called them, the customer service claimed they have already given me the points. But the reality is I did not receive anything from this promotion action. I also checked the XXXX customer service and XXXX confirmed that I did not receive the points from XXXX after I refer my friend. The second I called the American Express credit card service, they changed another representative and the representative said they will schedule a point payback to me on XXXX XXXX. However, after I waited until XXXX XXXX, nothing happened. American Express still owed me XXXX points for referring my friend.

Complaint: Received a postcard that offered XXXX XXXX miles if I signed up for a Gold American Express card. I applied and received the card XX/XX/XXXX.
When I had not received the bonus miles by XX/XX/XXXX I called the company and was told that the offer did not apply to anyone who had previously had an American Express card ( I last had a card in XX/XX/XXXX ).
There was nothing in the advertised offer that said kings x if you had a card three years ago. Therefore, extremely misleading.
