Complaint: I had a American Express platinum and the company got my information illegally with my social security.We are receiving promotional applications like 5 days a week me and my wife told the company stop sending the pre-approval letters they still keep sending the them.I called multiple times they keep being unprofessional.I believe this is a data breach .Because retrieved the information from my social security number.I spoke to a rep on the phone going back and she they can not stop sending the marketing material.I am in a community property state so if I am asking stop sending to stop material it means stop.Reps were being unprofessional kept hanging up the phone and transferring to different departments not getting things resolved.

Complaint: Hi, I have been called American Express reward card service to add 2 additional card holders in mid XX/XX/2018. I have been informed that upon adding them via phone I will be getting the card for them and XXXX points for each card holders. I have been provided personal information of my parents including passport numbers. After several weeks the cards did not arrived and I called back. I have been told that there was no audit trail of my request and this was confirmed also after an additional investigation. None apologise or try to solve the issue. It is so scaring that I have provided Amex with personal information and none recorded the call or the request. I am really scared. this is not the way my data or the data of my parents should be used.

Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a notice by email from American Express about a reduction to my credit limit. The reduction was from {$9500.00} to {$4500.00}. This left me approximately {$130.00} dollars of available credit. Since I never missed a payment or was ever late with my payments I thought there was some mistake. I thought this happened to those with payment issues only. I have been with AMEX for over 25 years and never had incident. I called them up and spoke to customer service. He informed me on XX/XX/XXXX my credit report from XXXX was reviewed and the score was XXXX. In checking XXXX rating scale this falls under good. Still he stated because there was revolving debt mostly from the personal financing of our business, they decided to reduce my credit by 50 %. He said making minimum payments was not sufficiently reducing the debt. Attached I have three statements for the last year since XX/XX/XXXX. My balance then was {$4900.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX a payment of {$400.00} dollars was made reducing the balance to {$4500.00}. By XX/XX/XXXX the balance was down to {$4200.00} respectively. The difference is approximately close to {$700.00} dollars. In addition, if minimum payments are an issue to AMEX then why have a card that allows them as most cards do. He went on to tell me I had options, one option was to make a {$2000.00} dollar payment by XX/XX/XXXX. This would ensure restoration of the credit line. The second option was to send AMEX tax documents and bank statements to review for a possible appeal. If satisfied a decision could be made to restore my credit. At that point I felt something was not right. I knew credit reports are generally used for credit cards and supplying a credit card with such documentation without consulting someone was not a good idea. Especially, when there was no justifiable reason for such a drastic reduction or measure. I have never heard of such despicable and abusive behavior from a company.
Though I have no problem supplying documents, I do believe this can lead to further abuse and unchallenged unfair practices from AMEX and others that follow in their steps. This in addition to the potential harm it can do to my credit file. I would like to know if this is considered normal practices from a credit card. According to your website this kind of transgression is not unusual for AMEX. It seems there are illegalities that they have been cited for. I would ask that your agency please follow-up on this situation.

Complaint: I was making payment to them, but it wasn't fast enough for them. They closed the account and sent it to collection. Which I tried to pay but the collection company sent me back the check The credit card company after sending it to collection, has now sent me a bill for an additional fee, and a note that my line of credit is {$5000.00}.
As well as the collection agency is charging me interest after I paid the bill.

Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX I was looking for a minimum $ XXXX higher limit but with no fees, lower interest.The suggestions as per reviews came back as American Express Simply Cash . I tried two times to get the forms fields to fill out correctly and it gave me a message that the offer wasn't available despite it took my information and never gave me a response let alone in 30 seconds as advertised. I had made soft inquiries before without any problems like this and became afraid that I was being info sucked to invade my social security account or some way to hurt me. I was then inquired about my bank info from the site that just claimed there was no offer available.
I called customer service ( XXXX ) XXXX. The man took my social number and referred me over to another guy who was decidedly XXXX sounding. They had some fake sounding recording beep, and when they claimed my application was there I said I wanted to talk to a supervisor. He put me on hold for 15+- minutes and for a total of 20 minutes so I hung up. This is all too unbelievable compared to other applications.

American Express is now saying they contacted the merchant who CAN NOT provide ANY proof that it's a legitimate charge and they are going to go ahead and re-post the charge on my account despite it NOT being legitimate.

Complaint: American Express approved my application for a Business Platinum card with a sign-up bonus offer to earn XXXX MR pts after a minimum {$10000.00} in qualifying purchases within the first 3 months. As the facts ( with the attachments to here ) proved that American Express had posted qualified purchases and awarded associated points of {$10000.00} within the first 3 months to my account along with written chat confirmation in early XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX, and a phone conversation on XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX along with a concurrence by a supervisor who stated that my account did meet the qualified spend to earn a welcome bonus which will likely be posted in XX/XX/XXXX after the statement close, however ; I was recently informed via chat on XX/XX/XXXX that my account showed a spend of {$9100.00} without a detailed explanation of how the numbers were computed and that my account will not earn a welcome bonus.
Again, as the facts with attachments proved that the American Express previously approved qualified spend and awarded pts associated with the purchases showing a spend of {$10000.00} within the 3 months, along with previous written and phone confirmation from Amex Rep that the account did meet the minimum qualified spend to earn the welcome bonus, I'd appreciate a review and correction to this issue in order to award the welcome bonus as agreed.
