Complaint: I was required to pay {$25.00} interest each month on my student loan. I missed a payment so was in arrears by {$25.00}. So i logged into the Sallie Mae website and set up an auto debit of {$50.00} per month so that I would clear my arrears and start paying down my loan by more than my minimum. When the auto debit came around instead of taking {$50.00} out of my bank it just took {$25.00} leaving me in arrears. I then got phone calls and messages from Sallie Mae telling me I was in arrears. When I checked the auto debit was still set up for {$50.00} per month but despite that Sallie Mae only took the minimum {$25.00} out. When I phoned up to ask why they told me that that is the way the system works and that I could not set up an auto debit for more than the required minimum. This is despite the fact that there online system allowed me to do this, still reports that I have a {$50.00} per month auto debit and above all else should allow me to pay down my loan faster than the minimum. When I challenged them again they told me that the only way to pay down the loan faster was by one off single payments. My frustration was that at no time was I told that I could only pay off the minimum amount of {$25.00} through the auto debit system, and that by not taking out my {$50.00} payment it kept me in arrears unintentionally on my part. I should be able to pay down my loans faster if I want though the auto payment system and if this is not possible Sallie Mae should have notified me when I set up the auto debit and not then complain when the arrears payment was not taken out by them. For students learning about how to handle financial management the system in place seems to only help Sallie Mae not the student. In helping to keep the student in arrears even when they tried to pay off the loan faster than required. Even there new look website is poorly designed mixing interest with payments in the same column so its harder to see how the loan balance is going up or down based upon the loan servicing. Why oh Why does the loan statement not separate additional charges and interest into its own column separate from the payments made to pay down the loan. This would give students a much clearer idea of how there loan is progressing rather than having to read down and across for each number to understand its meaning. Once again a missed opportunity to make it easier for students to service there loan.

Complaint: Good afternoon, I am currently enrolled XXXX at XXXX XXXX College and Sallie Mae continues to fail to update my account even after verifying the student clearing house of my enrollment causing a financial crisis. I spoken with XXXX or XXXX Sallie Mae reps who confirmed my name being in the clearinghouse and each time I am told something different. the first gentleman stated that once my enrollment was verified my account would return to deferment. On my fourth attempt to resolve this issue, I call Sallie Mae on XXXX/XXXX/15, I spoke with a XXXX, employee ID # XXXX, I was told by XXXX that schools have a deadline to enter students names in the clearinghouse. My balance went from {$300.00} due to now {$600.00}. She also advised me that it takes XXXX days to clear my name. Which I know is a lie. While attending XXXX University in Georgia, my name was entered into the clearing house electronically and this was never a issue to have to constantly call Sallie Mae for a resolution. Also, XXXX XXXX College financial aid officer stated that names are entered every Wednesday and there are no deadlines. I believe this is a clearly an attempt to collect monies which breach the student loan contract.

Even though the school has no electronic code ( the main reason SallieMae refuses to grant my deferment ), which XXXX universities do not have, the following fact is obtain from XXXX, XXXX paragraph down : The XXXX is also one of only three XXXX XXXX higher education institutions to gain accreditation in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education , [ XXXX ] an institutional accrediting agency, recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. I intent to file a lawsuit against SallieMae, and to publish bad publicity about this loan institute. The lack of an electronic code is completely irrelevant to this case. All that matters is my XXXX status at a XXXX university in the United States, even if the university is headquartered in XXXX, XXXX, XXXX.

Complaint: My loan payment, set by my private lender, is in excess if {$2000.00} per month. I, however, make just over {$3000.00} per month - post taxes and other withholding fees. After explaining my situation to my lender and trying to find pathways to reduce my payment to a financially feasible amount, the best they seem able to do is reduce my payment to just under {$1000.00}. I understand that my total loan amount with this lender is nearly {$200000.00}, but a more realistic payment would be attainable if my interest rates did not range from 7.25 to 10 %. I have continued to make " good faith payments '' to demonstrate that I am willing to pay and in no way attempting to blow off my responsibility, but being a that I only graduated XXXX months ago, it is virtually impossible for me to come-up with the type of money they are demanding. I would turn to my family and my cosigners, in particular, for more help, but the required repayment and subsequent repayment options offered by my lender still leave us desperately inadequate. I am currently seeking higher paying employment and ways to reduce my living expenses, but my options and professional growth as an XXXX are limited as a direct result of my crippling student loan debt.

Complaint: I have a pending payment due on the XXXX of XXXX for a loan used to pay XXXX University at XXXX XXXX, FL. I am experiencing financial hardship and as a result, I will not be able to make the payment at their specified amount. I decided to be proactive by calling Sallie Mae before my account becomes delinquent. When speaking with the Sallie Mae representatives, all they offered was forbearance as an option. I explained that I had already taken that option for XXXX months, which increased the loan amount as well as my monthly payment terribly, and that I was now ready to pay a monthly amount that is more fitting to my financial needs. End result : after speaking with many customer service representatives and supervisors such as XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX I was told that no sort of help or temporary repayment plan would be offered until I became delinquent on my account. Their solution was for me to not pay on my loan, and they even went as far as to encourage me to go into default. I have the representative ID numbers of several employees which made the statements described above. I am surprised as to how this company is allowed to be in business in the United States of America, and disgusted as to how they target students for these loans. I am ready and willing to make some sort of payment of my account, I just can not afford the amount demanded by Sallie Mae and it 's representatives at this time. The customer service team there appears to have a goal of pushing their clients into default. It 's an unfair business practice which is not even seen in the majority of credit card companies.

Complaint: This is the second complaint I have filed against Sallie Mae. I took out several loans between XXXX to attend school overseas at XXXX University. After studying I was married and moved overseas once again with my husband for the military. Finding work here is scarce and we are relying solely on a single paycheck. I have now been dealing with attempting to repay Sallie Mae since XX/XX/XXXX, I am clearly frustrated and at loss of what further action to take! I have been attempting to make payments which have been reversed/not accepted and my total balance and interest are constantly increasing to unreasonable heights. After being forced into forbearance multiple times, and paying hundreds of dollars that will never be applied to my loans, I am now being threatened with the default of my loans. I have asked numerous times for the amount to be reduced to an achievable payment and this request was, of course, denied as well. This company will not work with me, only against me, and I am feeling quite out of options at this point.

Complaint: Sallie Mae called me XXXX times yesterday. I answered the phone each time and there was no on on the other end of the line. I called the number back and spoke with someone who claimed I owed an amount of {$25.00} and some change. I advised them that they had called me XXXX times in one day and the supervisor advised it was an automated system and shows they only contacted me XXXX times. After I ended the phone call because the supervisor and rep both told me there was nothing they could do about the phone calls until the bill was paid, I paid the bill online. The amount it showed I owed online was greater than what I was told on the phone, but I paid it all anyway. I received XXXX more phone calls after the payment was made last night. Again, no one was on the other end of the line. Today, I received XXXX more phone calls from the same number and no one was on the line. I tried to call them back, but ca n't speak with anyone because their office is closed.

Complaint: I co-signed the loans for my daughter. They send a reminder via email monthly-before the payment is due. They have misapplied payments numerous times in the past 2 yrs and drive you insane trying to get somebody on the phone to fix it. The woman yesterday blamed my daughter for them not applying the payment correctly. She was rather insistent that my daughter do a phone payment ( bear in mind she was n't even past due ) and urged her to do auto-draft. My daughter told her she would pay online, while she was on the phone. Her letter has XXXX amount-the woman on the phone is telling her a completely different amount due and can not justify why the difference. My daughter hung up on her, after giving her the information for her phone payment. Today they have started the day off at XXXX on my phone with an automated message to call a person that is non-existent. I know that is illegal in the collection agency world so I do n't see how they get away with that. They called my daughter at almost the exact time. She called and got somebody that informed her that the woman yesterday did n't code the account correctly. My daughter explained that she paid online yesterday and the money has already been taken from her checking account. They said the calls would continue for up to 48 hours! That is outrageous-total harassment! They have since called my phone XXXX more times by XXXX. Sallie Mae is going above and beyond to harass my daughter when she has proof that payment was made and the account is XXXX up-to-date. And unfortunately I can not check all XXXX boxes below, but they are NOT handling payments correctly, phone calls persist after we have confirmation they have received them and Customer Service is poor ( at best ).
