Complaint: I tried to close my checking acct with Santander in XXXX 2015. Unfortunately there was an ACH transaction that went thru a few weeks later from an acct I did n't realize was still active. Santander paid the request & charged a {$35.00} fee. I called the main XXXX # & was told that there was nothing they could do about the fact that even though the acct was " closed '' an item was presented so the fee was valid. I deposited the money for the transaction into that acct & spoke with the bank mgr about the fee which she agreed to waive. I asked why they could n't just fully close the acct & make sure no payments are made against it & was told, " that was not possible '' but to " watch '' the acct & usually after a few months of no activity the acct will " convert '' to a closed acct. Well it 's now 10 months later & unfortunately XXXX checks inadvertently written from an old checkbook that had those accounts checks still in it were presented for payment, Santander paid them & charged {$70.00} in fees. I deposited money to cover the checks & asked the manager to waive the fee. She said " they did n't do anything wrong & the fee is valid ''. While I realize the checks were written & presented I ca n't fathom why after all this time & a request to close the acct they are still paying items presented to them & thereby able to charge me a fee. If the acct had been closed as I requested multiple times & then Santander denied payment, especially after 10 months, I would understand. I would be responsible to the parties to make good on the checks & any returned check fee they were charged. That makes sense. But instead they wo n't close the acct & will continue to pay items presented. I have no way of knowing if this acct will actually ever be closed. It is 2015, I do n't understand why they can not put a check flag in some data field & close this acct. I resent having to pay them a fee because they ca n't make this simple thing happen. Do I have any recourse or am I resigned to paying the fees forever?

Complaint: Santander Bank N.A. is reporting to the XXXX major credit bureaus an account that is not mine. It may very well be an account that was upon fraudulently, as I have been a victim of identity theft. I have submitted online disputes to the XXXX major credit bureaus. XXXX completed its dispute stating that the creditor has updated the status showing that the account belongs to me. The dispute is still pending XXXX. I have been therefore informed to contact the creditor directly. When I did, I spoke to a XXXX or XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was then informed that I needed to contact their Fraud Prevention and Security area at ( XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have contacted the Fraud Prevention and Security area, and was informed that someone will be calling me back. I have not received a returned call to this date. The account was updated without Santander providing any proof that the account is actually mine, and with no further explanation, and with no returned phone call to go over the issues with me. Also, if I recall correctly, XXXX of the representatives mentioned an another address associated with this account that was not connected to me. Further, since I know nothing about this account, I 'm not sure exactly what type of account it is ( e.g. banking or credit card ).

Complaint: Santander Bank, without giving any reason, asked me and my wife ( we both had our separate individual accounts ) to close our checking, saving and money market accounts and warned us that if we will not close the accounts within 30 days they will close the accounts. The balance in the account was returned after three weeks in my case without any interest. We had no problem with any other bank where we had our accounts or opened new accounts.

Complaint: In 2012 we applied for a loan modification to Sovereign on a fixed interest mortgage on our {$750000.00} loan in 2012 due to extraordinary hardship due to downturn in our business as architects and engineers. The interest is 6.25 %. We were denied a loan modification due to some minor issue in the application and were asked to reapply. We ended up reapplying and getting denied about 4 times. The last time we were rejected on a very trivial issue. We complained to supervisors but to no avail. Then almost immediately the mortgage processing was taken over by Santander Bank ( when we called them to apply for loan modification it was the exact same staff as Sovereign Bank ). We were so upset we gave up till now. We have been struggling due to the economic downturn we ended up being a few days late on some mortgage on XXXX occasions. This has prevented us from getting refinanced, also because our income has reduced due to the downturn, we are not able to qualify for current loan refinances. We feel that all the interest we have been paying is unfairly charged. We should have been given a loan modification but were denied unfairly. We would like a loan reduction and refinance to a low interest rate. We currently owe {$630000.00} and {$48000.00} second fixed at 7.95 % interest to XXXX XXXX XXXX which was financed at the same time by our original loan broker as an interest only loan which comes due 2018. We still owe the {$50000.00}.
