Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I have been struggling for years with Navient to lower my payments to something I can afford in regards to my private loan. I have managed to work with them after 4-5 years and using ALL of my forbearances to get in their what they call rate reduction program. At one point, they even XXXX up my payments during the program. Now my payments are going up. And they say it is to match what was on my promissory note. I went from paying XXXX something, to XXXX and change, to now XXXX for the next 6 months and I am afraid I will not be eligible for their program. When I went to renew, I wasn't even allowed to use a forbearance because they made me use them all in the course of the 4-5 years I argued with them to lower my payments because I could not afford almost XXXX a month after I graduated and didn't have a job. I have also tried to get my father released as a co-signed as he is XXXX and does not work and the only income he has is his SSD. I have countlessly explained this to Navient AND made on time payments using the rate reduction program and they said he can not be released but i have proven to make payments ALONE without his help and I don't want them coming after his SSD.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Private student loan

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I made a {$16000.00} payment to loan ending in # XXXX. The new balance dropped from {$25000.00} to {$9100.00}. My monthly payment was to change from {$160.00} to {$61.00}. The monthly payment has not changed as of XX/XX/2019. I called Navient in XXXX, XXXX and XXXX to ask why the new payment based on the reduced principal amount is not reflected in my account. Every time I have called, the Navient representative misinformed me that the reduced payment would take effect the following month. However, that has not happened, now three months later. I have overpaid {$210.00} towards this loan between XXXX and XX/XX/2019. I would like Navient to reimburse me {$210.00} immediately.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Good morning. I recently filed and got a repayment plan in place which is suitable. Where I am having problems is that I worked in the nonprofit sector serving under served communities for 15 years and NAVIENT won't allow me to file for loan forgiveness. My student loans from XXXX University and Virginia XXXX for the most part would fall under the forgiveness. My loans have changed hands ( 4 ) times. First with the banks, then XXXX XXXX XXXX, then Sallie Mae and then NAVIENT. I filled out the form with XXXX and Sallie Mae and since my loans are with NAVIENT the forms have been lost and they ( multiple representatives ) said I can't file for it. I need help getting my loans forgiven, I need a manager from NAVIENT to speak with me that has knowledge of loan forgiveness and is willing to assist in this matter because I have served my community and would like the loans to be forgiven. I was calling NAVIENT between XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX and never got anywhere with them. One woman told me in the summer of XX/XX/XXXX that I should have filed paper work when I started working out of college in XX/XX/XXXXand I explained to her that I did many years but my loans have changed companies numerous times and that I should not be penalized for it. Can someone please help me. I appreciate it.

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Navient Student loans : I have been unable to figure out why, when I make an overpayment, my due date is not advanced when I direct it to be. I have gotten several different answers, including from customer service management, none of which make sense to me. An example : In XX/XX/2019, my amount due for that month was {$0.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, because I had made an overpayment already to advance this to XX/XX/XXXX. In XXXX, I made a full payment anyway, distributed as per federal requirements, and had instructed them to advance the due date. Despite this, my due date was not advanced, and remained XX/XX/XXXX. What Navient is saying is that, despite having a {$0.00} balance in a given month, I would have to pay two full monthly payments anyway, in order to advance the due date by one month. This makes no sense, as both payments would already be overpayments. This has happened to me repeatedly over the past two years. I have contacted them numerous times ( for which I was given different explanations and told it was fixed ), and it took a year ( and me directly emailing their CEO ) in order to get the above explanation ; which I still don't think makes any sense.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I attended XXXX XXXX University and graduated in XXXX with my XXXX degree and then in XXXX with my XXXX degree. Since then, over the years there have been periods where I had my payments reduced or deferred. I learned about this when I called to make a payment. I was informed that I can pay a reduced amount each month or that I can have payments deferred. One thing that they never told me, that I only recently found out about is, loan forgiveness. I would totally qualify for loan forgiveness except for the fact that I did take advantage of the deferred payment. I began working for the XXXX District Attorney 's Office in XXXX and continued to work there until XXXX. ( Also worked for the XXXX County DA 's office XXXX, totalling 16 years in public service ). During this entire time, I was never informed of the loan forgiveness which indicates that I would qualify as a public servant/ government position. So here I am rather than taking tremendous steps forward, I have incurred further debt when I should've been getting rid of my loan.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I recently contacted Navient and requested information about how the principle and interest are being applied. After receiving and reviewing payment information ( for the last 24 months ) it appears the principle and interest applied over the last couple of years is bogus? In some months no principle was applied and just interest paid to them? In other months an average of {$30.00} was applied in principle. Navient still alleges the loan is still a 20 year loan? How can this be? This is truly unacceptable, as principle should always be applied with every payment? Also they are alleging that the federal government is setting these rules on the way payments should be set up. In addition their payment plans have become outrageous! They are now telling me my payments will increase {$700.00} in the next year or so, when I was originally told ( by another customer service rep two years ago ) my payments were already set at {$430.00} for the life of the loan? CFPB please help!

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Account status incorrect
Complaint: 30 Days ago I was informed by my credit tracking applications that I had new reports on my credit report. I went to see them, and I found 8 different accounts from Navient had gone delinquent. I had no knowledge of these accounts, and was never once informed that they needed to be paid. Up until this point, I had never missed a credit card/car payment/student loan payment in the entire length of my credit history. I called Navient, and they pushed me hard to forbearance, and told me that the accounts should be pushed to current and that all past due payments would just be added to the balance and negated. Today I had called them to do a follow up to see why the accounts were just marked as current and not fully removed as late, and they told me they would not be able to remove them from my credit report. When it comes to the loans, they had never tried to contact me once besides them stating that they had sent emails reminding me of the payment due. My phone number was correct and never changed, and they had the right contact information for my mom as well as myself. The address was also correct for the both of us. They had said that due to me being enrolled in " paperless '' they had never tried any other method of contact. Thus my accounts being delinquent and late has crushed my credit score when I was completely unaware of the fact that any of these payments were due. If I had, I have more than sufficient income to make said payments, and would've happily done so as you can see with every other account in my name including other student loan accounts.. They also informed me that it is my responsibility to keep them up to date with current information, meanwhile the only information they had wrong/ever chose to contact me through was an email address that was wrong and I no longer have access to.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I got a loan from Sallie Mae for XXXX. Its now XXXX and I still owe XXXX. Ive paid this loan 2-3 times over. The year XXXX, I scheduled for the loan company to take money out weekly for every time I get paid. I paid {$3300.00} ; which is on my tax information. I went on Navient which has my loan now and looked at the life of the loan and the information does not match up with my actual payments. According to Navient I paid a total of XXXX, which is in correct. It also had late fees that were doubled and I was making payments sometimes on the same day as the payment was being removed from my account. On XX/XX/XXXX, I requested all payments from this loan and my contract. I was told it would be sent out. Im concerned that my payments were misappropriated and late fees were being charged, when I was making payments and Im being overcharged when my loan should have been paid off a long time ago.

Account status incorrect
Complaint: My student loan originally started with XXXX. They transferred my loan to Navient I was contacted by Navient They stated that I was behind on my loan. After having my XXXX audit my student loan payments all of my payments were made. After communicating with XXXX it was determined that they had credited my payments to another account. There were several three way calls between XXXX, Navient my XXXX and myself. XXXX forwarded the missing funds to Navient ( see the attached letter ) dated XX/XX/2019. Navient has reported to all three Credit bureaus XXXX, XXXX and XXXX that my student loan is delinquent ( see the attached copy of the three credit reports ). I have spoken with Navient at least 6 times regarding this issue and filed a complaint. I've also filed a dispute with XXXX each time Navients response is the payments were late so they are correct. The payments were late because XXXX posted them wrong. I've made every payment on time and they reported to the credit bureaus that these payments were late is incorrect and need to be removed from my reports. I have communicated this to many times and have spent an enormous amount of time dealing with this issue an issue I did not cause.

On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a email about the waiving the late fee 's, lowering your monthly payment over a period of time, bring your loan up to date just by making your current monthly payment and forgive portion of the balance as long a mutual agreement on settlement terms can be reached. On XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX EST, I spoke to XXXX XXXX. She claim here employee id:XXXX. I spoke to her about my account. She said my account is 93 days past due. I told her, I understand. But, I received a email about waiving the late fees. I told her I can't afford to make payments that high because. I'm on a XXXX. I'm on a fix income and can I settle the balance. She told me XXXX. I told her I can't settle that. I asked her about my options. She told me that all. I told her I guess. You can't help me. She said I guess I can't help you. Her attitude and not willing to help.
