Complaint: I was in an in-school deferment with a subsidized loan through Navient for the entirety of XXXX. I finished my program and expected that I would soon begin to be responsible for accruing interest again. I checked frequently, logging into my account on at least a weekly basis. For that entire time period from XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX, Navient reported to me that my unpaid interest. There was no change in balance, any accruing interest or a change to my deferment status. No statements or communications from Navient were received in this time. I wanted to make sure I was on top of my payments, and so I checked repeatedly. They viewed my account login information and could see that I was diligent with this. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received my first statement from Navient since I began the deferment. Interest began accumulating and I had an upcoming payment due. That all looked correct as expected. What was incorrect was a change in my balance. It wasn't immediately clear why, but my balance had increased by {$150.00}. No explanation was given, no charges or unpaid or past due interest was reported. I called Navient and was told that interest had capitalized and added to my balance. I asked how this was possible, as the day before Navient was still reporting the unpaid interest as {$0.00}. I was told Navient would investigate and follow up. Twenty-four hours later, I received three documents from Navient explaining my balance and how interest works. These did not address my complaint. I called Navient again and spoke to three employees including two supervisors ( # XXXX and XXXX ). I was told I was retroactively charged interest because the paperwork had just arrived from the school explaining I had finished my program. I understand wanting to charge me interest for that period. My complaint is that the interest was charged despite Navient actively reporting my unpaid interest as {$0.00} and then IMMEDIATELY capitalized with zero communication to the consumer. It is not ethical, fair or honest to capitalize interest that has not actually accrued. If Navient had at any time during that period reported to me that interest was accruing, I would have paid it. They did not do so and retroactively penalized me, increasing my balance and total amount I'll owe over the lifespan of my loan, without a single statement. I still have not received documentation that interest accrued during that period. Navient simply decided to tell me it was {$0.00} but capitalize it anyway. I was told on the phone this problem would be investigated to prevent {$0.00} of unpaid interest in being reported to others in the future, but nothing would be done for my account since the interest had already capitalized. They were essentially saying the process is meant to go from phase 1 ( no interest is accruing ) to phase 2 ( interest begins accruing ) to phase 3 ( interest is capitalized ), but they could only solve my problem in phase 2. That's an insult because my complaint is specifically that they went from phase 1 to phase 3 with NO communication to me as the consumer. It is an unethical practice that puts the student on the hook for slow communication between Navient and the schools. At the bare minimum, I should receive an accurate statement of accrued interest BEFORE that interest is allowed to capitalize. Navient 's failure to do so is taking advantage of students who may not notice increases in their balance.

Complaint: I recently made an overpayment on one of my loans, and specified that the overpayment be directed to my highest interest loan and not to advance my due date. However they processed the payment to advance my due date rather than billing me for my next full monthly payment. I noticed and am planning to pay off my loans in full to avoid any further difficulties. Their default was to advance my due date, which in effect makes it take longer to pay off my loans and allows them to charge me more interest over the long term. Moreover, this was despite the instructions that I explicitly gave them.

Complaint: I applied for loan forgiveness as I work for the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as well as for XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as an XXXX XXXX. I applied under the Public Service Worker forgiveness program only to be told that my loans did not qualify because they were not direct loans. I originally got statements from Sallie Mae that changed to Navient. I have seen the lawsuits against Navient and believe I am one of those affected.

Complaint: This loan was taken out in XXXX for roughly 10093 dollars, which is currently at 28000 dollars roughly. At no time did the school tell me this was a private loan when we was going through the process. I was told this was standard. First time ever taking out a loan. Did not know until XXXX that this was a private loan when the information started coming in the mail. Tried to fight this by calling Navient with no help. It was either pay or this will go on your credit, which it did. I was finally able to get someone to seen me documentation in XXXX about this promissory not. No where on the application says anything about this being a private loan. On a separate piece of paper, without my signature, saying this is a private loan. The only signature on the document is from a person at the school. I was completely mislead by XXXX XXXX and been trying to get this fix with Navient for 9 years now. Finally gotten some where by getting this website to fill this paperwork out.

Complaint: I currently have my federal loans in borrow defense since XX/XX/XXXX. the sallie mae/navient ones are private loans. this company has closed this account and wrote it off and yet continue to report as delinquent to the credit bureau which brings down my credit. They have used a few collection agency to go through to try and collect money and I sent out a validation letter to the companies and I have dispute it from the credit bureau. The credit bureau nor the collection agency is able to validate any of my information which goes against the FCRA law. I found out that the borrow defense does not apply to federal loans and told me to contact you guys due to borrow defense claims with XXXX XXXX. They just reported it delinquent yesterday XX/XX/XXXX which goes against my letter that I sent. I am very upset with this company. I would recommend NO one to use this company EVER if they need a loan.

Complaint: I applied for the income base repayment plan, after a year had gone by and had to renew the plan they never sent the paperwork to renew it. After which they then repeatedly called me at very inconvenient times while I was at work leaving daily messages about it. When I was able to call them they told me the only way to move forward was to forbearance the past due amount which had late fees attached or pay the past due amount. Which was around 700 dollars. So I had to forbearance it and then they said I had to apply for the income based repayment plan and quoted me a monthly payment that was twice as high as it had been before and was more the the payment would have been without the plan. This matter is unsettled as they were unwilling to work with me by just repeating my options with no additional help. I also was in a car accident and was out of work for a few months and they also only gave me the option of forbearance and only helping to lead me to more and more debt.

Complaint: My loan is from XXXX and was originally from XXXX XXXX. It was bought by Navient after I had been paying on it. They have been unable to tell me where the payments went that I paid prior to them buying it. I was charged the full amount again by Navient after they bought it. I made payments to Navient, and then went back to school in XXXX. I spoke with the school and Navient and was told that I would not need to pay while I was attending school. My credit was affected and reported as late, I had to submit a dispute with the credit bureu. I have faithfully made payments to Navient since XXXX. Paying more than the minimum amount, and paying early. The balance is always the same and never goes down. I have requested numerous times that I get a print out, and that something is not right. They have yet to send me the accounting print out, and then on my credit it now shows that the balance is increasing. They can not answer where the money is going, or where the money is for my account. I know that the balance that I am still showing owe is not right. When I log into my account it always shows that repayment is to begin the following month. They don't have an answer for that either.
