Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Navient has been overcharging interest on my federal XXXX loans. Even though I am on an IBR plan, I pay weekly ( approximating what I would have on a standard plan ) because I understand that interest compounds daily, and any overpayment I make is supposed to go to principal. On the first payment of every month for the past six months, I noticed that the split between principal and interest is off by almost $ XXXX as an overcharge in the interest category. None of my contact with Navient customer service has resolved this error. Please investigate.

I want them to stop reporting it as Collection/Chargeoff every month as I'm trying to rebuild my credit. Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Can't temporarily delay making payments
Complaint: I reached out to Navient in XX/XX/2018 because I was having difficulty paying such a high amount {$300.00} per month in student loan repayments and I wasn't making a dent in the balance. I had an additional {$300.00} in other federal student loans. I asked if they had an income-driven repayment plan and they told me no and that the amount paid per month can not change no matter what. I called Navient today XX/XX/2018 to ask for help since I am unemployed and searching for work. I asked for a temporary loan forbearance or loan repayment alteration in the amount per month. The employee informed me that I would still have to pay {$160.00} per month even though for the next 6 months to count toward both loands. I already paid for this month 's loan so it wouldn't be much of an assistance. The other forbearance option presented to me was to pay a trust fee of " {$100.00} '' for a three month forbearance. Other organizations do not require a fee for forbearance required to enroll in the program. The information is not clear how to qualify for these programs and what assistance they have for people in need. I have been paying for the student loans diligently.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I have been struggling to repay my student loans. Over the years my student loan company Navient has insisted I pay more than I can afford, this has forced me to request deferments. I was unemployed for 4 years and requested deferment at that time, however when I attempted to start payments again the company insists that I pay such a large percent of my income, it makes it impossible. Right now they are insisting I pay {$1000.00} a month! I need a flexible payment plan so I can afford food, gas, tolls and rent, not to mention be able to go to the Dr. once in a while-I have not been to my PCP in over a year. I am requesting to start with a monthly payment of {$250.00} to XXXX a month and then I can increase the amount next year. If my car breaks down, I have no way to fix it and get to work with this large amount they want. They set borrowers up for failure. And on top of that the website mentions nothing about student loan forgiveness, there is no drop down box for that-I am a social worker and have been one for going on 15+ years now. The high amount they want means I can't make consistent payments to qualify for student loan forgiveness! Right now that program only allows you to get your loans forgiven if you make consistent payments for 10 years-another barrier. Please help. Thank you.

Incorrect information on your report

Student loan: Private student loan

Account status incorrect
Complaint: I have asked for options in repayment several times, because I have been having difficulty paying the full amount monthly. Navient has not given me any forbearance/deferment/payment reduction options. Instead, they tell me I am behind and need to catch up with no other options given. Since, I have been placed on a payment program to catch up. Ive been told that my account will be current as of XXXX if payments are made. The company continues to report NEGATIVE comments on both my credit report and my co-signers, even though we are on such a payment plan, and have asked for other options. I spoke with Navient regarding the derogatory comments on both credit reports, and was told that they will continue to give negative hits to our credit until XXXX, even though we are on such a payment plan to catch up. These negative comments on both credit reports have made both mine, and my co-signers credit drop drastically. Our credit is being hit with derogatory marks EVERY SINGLE DAY! Sometimes, more than once a day! This is totally unacceptable for a company to take advantage of their customers and put them in such a horrific credit state if the party is trying got work with them to resolve the issue and make payments to become current. I WANT THE DEROGATORY CREDIT REPORTS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY!

Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Complaint: XXXX and XXXX are reporting incorrectly that I am 120 days past due on several student loans with Navient that have a {$0.00} balance and {$0.00} past due. This is harming my credit score and it is obviously impossible to be past due on something that does not have a balance due.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I had countously time called and talked to Navient about them helping me start a repayment plan that will be affordable for me. After speaking with them I told them to help generate a report for me to see so I can see it in detail but I never recovers anything. So when I tried to connect with them again regarding the report and the repayment program, they kept saying that they will have something for me in the next few days. Then when I saw the new payment reflected my account I had to pay, it was more than what it was the first time theyre charging me. Furthermore, I reapplied for the repayment plan and then all of sudden they came up with XXXX dollars for me to pay so I went and go ahead and paid for the first two months now and when I looked at my account history he two months Ive been paying for was only Going towards the interest to the organization and not even towards my principle I took out. Im very frustrated and I need your help to demand them to stop my loan. Its something I can not trust them with anymore. Please contact help me with what you can. Thanks you!

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Navient. Tried to auto enroll me in deferment of payments. My loan provider has changed multiple times unnecessarly since first beginning payments. I have selected an automatic payment option to focus on the highest interest loan first. Worked out fine for a couple months. Now it's not paying the other loans, allowing them to default and causing high fees. THEIR AUTO PAYMENT OPTION. Automatically changing my address unless I call them. I haven't moved. I can only assume this is to XXXX people over on their tax deductions. Tired of baby sitting them. Grade A corrupt business practices at every turn. Selling all my investments ( my entire nest egg ) to clear out of this debt which is suppose to just be 3-5 % APR but it's just not with all their XXXX. Going to encourage my son and anyone else who's interested in college to steer clear.

Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX / Navient is reporting my student loan account information inaccurately. XXXX XXXX XXXX / Navient is reporting that I pay a monthly payment of {$1900.00}. The problem is, I have never paid a payment of {$1900.00} because I have either been in forbearance or deferment status. My credit report should reflect accurately what I have paid or that the status in which I am currently in. This inaccurate reporting affects my dept to income ratio which adversely effects my utilization rate which has a negative effect on my credit score which results in me getting financed at a higher interest rate. I have spoken with Navient several times only to have them tell me to file a dispute with the credit bureau. I have filed a dispute with the credit report only to have Navient send up the same information. According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, my credit report should accurately reflect my monthly payments therefore, XXXX XXXX XXXX / Navient should be reporting {$0.00} or Forbearance or Deferred.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Back in XXXX I was XXXX years old and remember being very diligent about my finances and accruing student debts. I applied for as many scholarships and grants that I could qualify for with the hope of receiving as much financial assistance that I could to utilize towards furthering my education. In XXXX I enrolled in the University XXXX XXXX XXXX where I finished my XXXX XXXX. I did this because while attending that school the tuition was roughly half that of the main campus at the University XXXX XXXX. I did all of these laborious tasks to cut down my costs for higher education. After receiving my XXXX degree and not being able to afford to repay my student loans, I called your organization to hear my options and ask for assistance. I signed up for the deferment plan versus an income based repayment plan because the representatives stated that deferment would be the best option for me based on my financial situation. I feel as though I was mislead by not being advised to utilize the income based repayment plan, which would have been the best option so that I would not have had to use finite loan deferment time while also accruing more interest on the loans. Once I graduated with my XXXX degree, I realized that I couldnt afford to repay my student loans even though I was working two part time jobs. Around XXXX I was finally advised by your representatives to enter an income based repayment plan. In XXXX, I moved to XXXX XXXX, CA and it took me roughly 4 years to gain employment where I could finally afford certain necessities such as health insurance and a 401k account. Less than a year into that position, I am now required to pay student loans that I simply can not afford. The cost of living in XXXX XXXX is almost 50 % higher than the national average and in order to live in accordance with societal expectations, one must budget accordingly. The monthly payment estimator on your website states that in the current program that Im enrolled in, I will owe $ XXXX/month. That is upwards of 20 % of my take home income. The estimator does not take into consideration the cost of living expenses for residing in a more costly city like XXXX XXXX, which makes it more difficult to save towards any future goals, such as buying a home or saving for retirement.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: After having paid off loan 1-02 Direct Loan - Unsubsidized on XXXX for {$1600.00}, I called customer service to have my autopay loan 1-07 DL Consolidated - Unsubsidized payment adjusted to match what it had been in prior months. Every month that I finish paying off one of my loans, Navient will change the amount of the autopay being paid to the higher interest loans and always in their favor. For example, instead of adjusting the payment schedule on the lower interest loans, they always short the highest interest loans. When they finally adjusted the payment allocation correctly to loan 1-07 DL Consolidated - Unsubsidized in XXXX, they opened one of my paid off loans ( 1-02 Direct Loan - Unsubsidized ) and added a principal balance of {$110.00}. How is it possible that after I have paid off a loan in totality can they reopen the loan to add back principal when I have other loans that are still outstanding that they can adjust? This is a monthly occurrence with Navient and they have abused their role as a student loan service provider.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: In XX/XX/2018 I contacted Navient to extend the income-based repayment option ( IBR ) on key federal XXXX loans, which at the time totalled roughly {$85000.00} with about 5 % interest. On the phone, the representative repeatedly dodged my request to do this, highlighting the options of the consolidation plan which had a $ XXXX monthly payment opposed to {$150.00} for the IBR. The rep highlighted NONE of the effects of the plan other than the monthly payment, and due to distractions at the time and the reps persistence I agreed to the consolidation. When I realized they had added almost {$30000.00} in capitalization costs and fees and my balance was now nearly {$120000.00} at the same interest, I called ( XX/XX/2018 ) to see if they could work with me in some way to reverse/reduce the amount. They refused. I called again a few days later and requested the same, and also highlighted my concerns about pressured and potentially unscrupulous lending tactics, their response was to send me a copy of my promissory note! I called one more time ( Fall 2018 ) to ask again for help, reminding them I have XXXX kids and only make $ XXXX ( I've since become unemployed unfortunately ), and that the loan had placed devastatingly undue hardship upon my family. They never got back to me, and restated my balance of {$120000.00} and given interest rate. Please help!
