She was unsuccessful. She returned the card to me and I attempted to do the same and called ( XXXX ) netSpend on three different occasions and they would not activate the card or refund my money. On my last call ( today XXXX/XXXX/XXXX ) they refused to help me at all. I requested to speak to a supervisor and I was disconnected. Please help me

Complaint: The Card company ( Netspend ) has been taking money out of my accounts with them and when I try and dispute the issues they claim that I used the Card at previous stores then they told me to file a dispute claim with there online system and that I would have to wait 10 business days to get the money back to my account. When the 10 days had passed Netspend claims that there was no issue every time I made a dispute about any of the issues they never fixed it when I would see it on the online account portal they would remove it and there would n't be any traces of how they were taking out the money from my account. They claim that this is n't true but this is what happened. When I called there customer service phone number this morning to find out why my account had been locked and why my paycheck had n't been received yet the representative stated to me the account had been closed out yesterday afternoon at XXXX central time when I asked who closed the account the representative replied their risk department. I stated to the representative that I did n't request for my account to be closed and he stated to me that I am no longer eligible to receive or have a Netspend account and he kept repeating the same thing for an hour when I requested to speak to a supervisor the representative repeated the same thing telling that I am no longer eligible for a Netspend account and that the risk department closed my account without my knowledge or consent and when I asked the representative about what suspicous activity was going on with my account he would n't say and he kept repeating the same thing telling me that I am no longer eligible for any Netspend account and then I requested again firmly to speak to a supervisor he took an hour to connect me to a supervisor and the supervisor never picked up I was on hold for three hours and no one picked up no one resolved my issues they have been taking money out of my accounts for almost a year and this is a huge hardship because I have bills to pay for and a child to take care of. I ca n't by food for my child or my self. I ca n't even pay for transportation to and from work or even emergencies.

Stated she purchased an XXXX XXXX x repeatedly. All in all I contacted the debit card company and they refuse to refund the charges back to my account. They say I need to work with the merchant. Complaint: The prepaid card that is giving me issues is XXXX. They blocked my card 3 times!!!! And promised me that I wouldnt have the issue again after the first time. I had to miss work because all of my money is on my card I could not feed my daughter or put gas in my car 3 days in a row. My missed days from work is Thursday XXXX/XXXX/XXXX and XXXX/XXXX/XXXX. Also XXXX $ late fee has been added to my rent because it was late because I could Not get the money order because my card was block. I have documentation on the 3 times that my card was blocked, the three times that it was U blocked being promised that the issue was fixed along with my pay rate for 8 hour day for two days and my late fee for my rent I would like to be REIMBURST for all the money that was messed up due to THIS COMPANY and I am canceling after my Last direct deposit! Complaint: I received the first XXXX XXXX card in my name on a XXXX ready to activate attached to a direct deposit form with my information and a bank account number and routing number from XXXX. I did not apply for, ask for or want these services ... and was applaled to recieve it as I am on the GOVERMENT DO NOT SOLICIT LIST for financial and insurance solicitations. I called them and told them I was registered and asked them to remove me from thier solicitation list. The lady assured me the account was closed. In XXXX, I received another one. Same mastercard with and open account and routing in my name. Anyone could have received this and activated it. Which is why I do not want unsolicited offers. I did not appreciat their ignorange of the " DO NOT SOLICIT '' list nor the disregard for my request not to solicit.

Complaint: My XXXX boys received NetSpend XXXX debit cards for XXXX last year ( XXXX ). Each was loaded with {$50.00}. The cards were not activated until XXXX XXXX, at which time we notified NetSpend that we would NOT be reloading the cards and simply wanted to activate them as " one time use '' cards. A PIN was established for each card and we were charged an " activation fee '' of $ XXXX/card, reducing their value to {$44.00} each. Over the next few months, we attempted to use them at a wide variety of stores without a single successful use. We eventually just gave the boys cash instead. Today, we called NetSpend to see if we could finally get resolution. Instead, we discovered that NetSpend has been charging a monthly fee of {$5.00} since activation and the card values have been fully depleted. So for {$100.00} sent to NetSpend, we received {$0.00} value and 100 % frustration. We were never informed that there would be monthly fees deducted from the accounts and were unable to find a single business whose credit/debit system would accept these cards. This is the very definition of a scam. I assume that most people put $ 20-50 on the cards to use as gifts and recipients simply give up on use and throw them away, leaving NetSpend with all of the money. Complaint: On Thursday, XX/XX/XXXX, I went to XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, NC, to cash a money order. I filled out the necessary forms and was told that a checking account would be opened for me. I stated that I did not want the account. My money order was cashed, I was told to press several buttons ( Green and Red ) on the credit card machine, and then I was given a packet of information describing a checking account ( XXXX XXXX XXXX by XXXX ) that was opened for me. The cashier told me that the account was opened automatically for everyone and that I would just have to call XXXX and cancel the account if I did n't want it. I called the phone number provided as soon as I left XXXX XXXX XXXX and was told by the representative that I could only close the account if I paid a {$15.00} closing fee. I explained that the account was opened without my approval, but the representative insisted that I had to pay the fee. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was connected with XXXX. XXXX also said that I needed to pay the fee. When I refused, he stated that I needed to return to XXXX XXXX XXXX to have the account closed without a fee. When I pressed him on why the bank itself could n't do this and that I was going to contact the CFPB, XXXX placed me on hold. When he got back on the phone, he stated that he was closing the account and waiving the fee. He stated that this would take 1-2 days. On Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX, I received a text message stating that my XXXX XXXX XXXX Debit Card was mailed. I called XXXX again to check why the account was n't closed. I spoke to a representative who said that the account was escalated to a manager, but not closed. After being placed on hold several times, the representative told me that I could only close the account if I paid the {$15.00} fee. When I explained my previous experience and the resolution given to me by XXXX, the representative said she understood my concern, but offered no resolution other than me paying the fee. I asked to speak to a manager to resolve the issue. I was placed on hold for 40 minutes before ending the call.

Complaint: This is a follow up to unsatisfactory resolution of CFPB complaint number XXXX. I was told a customer service representative left a voicemail with a direct number. I have not received any such phone call. I have been unable to liaise with Netspend for further assistance with this issue. Again, I have no contact information for who to speak with at Netspend. My accounts were closed by Netspend. My funds in the amount of {$5000.00} are being held by Netspend and not returned to me. I was asked to provide a Letter of Indemnity by Netspend from XXXX XXXX. As expected, since XXXX has nothing to do with Netspend holding my funds XXXX, XXXX XXXX has provided written instructions that they will NOT provide this letter. I have attached the message from XXXX for your review. Understandably, XXXX does NOT want to get involved. " Regrettably, we are unable to accommodate a request of a written release or indemnity form to provide to Netspend. While we sincerely empathize with the issues you have experienced, we ask that you continue working with Netspend and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) in order to recover your funds. '' I really do not know what to do at this point since XXXX is unwilling to provide what Netspend is asking for. Netspend has closed my accounts in XXXX. They promised to mail the funds to my address on file which I have NEVER changed since registration. Netspend continues to hold my funds XXXX. Since filing a CFPB complaint, Netspend then says the promise to mail the funds to the address on file was actually an error and to get the funds this whole time, a Letter of Indemnity is required from XXXX. XXXX has denied me this letter and is unwilling to get involved. I have no contact information for someone at Netspend to contact regarding this matter. I fear Netspend will continue to hold my funds XXXX citing my inability to secure this " Letter of Indemnity. '' CFPB, please help.

Complaint: I have several XXXX XXXX Accounts. Today I Deposited {XXXX} via XXXX XXXX XXXX into my Account. I then needed to Change my Password and Address Update because it still had not been done despite my doing so several times. A CSR ( Customer Service Representative ) Politely Change all my Information and tried to send a Password Reset to my email and I did not receive. Upon Checking, she found out Fraud Department had Locked my Account. We contacted Fraud Department and they requested I fax copy of my SSN Card and Several Pieces of Mail showing my New Residence which I immediately did. I was told it should take 2 hours. After more than 4 hours elapsed I contacted Netspend again only to find out that the Fraud Department will be Closed Until Monday. They Took My Money, Pretended to Help Me, Lied about Unlocking my Card, and Now I can not access my Card, nor my Money, and can not reach anyone to assist me. They knew they were not going to help me yet had me completely verify all my information to 3 different CSR 's and 2 Supervisors and 1 Fraud Agent and I still can not access my Card nor get my Money. Complaint: Netspend advertising on the front of their package looks much like a gift card. I purchased it by mistake. I was unable to get a refund from the store and Netspend required DL, SS card, and proof of residence to create an account. This has created a delay where they are holding my money and I ca n't use it. They have yet to create an account for me. THey offered a full refund but it will take 7 to 10 days. In general they are deceptive in packaging and they are extremely difficult to work with. They keep you from your money and have ridiculous fees for simple transactions. This is sad if this is all poor credit people have to use. I had to cough up more cash to buy gift cards for my XXXX presents because all this money was tied up with Netspend, I was lucky I had it or the kids would have gone without.

Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX, received NetSpend Visa Prepaid Card as a gift XX/XX/XXXX, contacted company to activate card. After going through the long process to activate, I was told that if I used the card as a " debt '' which I would have to, they would charge me {$2.00} for putting my pin into the machine. If I used the card with a " signature '' which I did not understand since you have to put a pin in for a debt card I would be charged {$1.00}. So this {$20.00} gift I received would only be worth {$18.00} or {$19.00} dollars. My benefactor had to pay {$2.00} to purchase the card and then I would not get the full benefit of her gift because the company would be taking fees. I told the company that I wanted the {$20.00} and they said they could send me a check in 7 to 10 business days. XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted the Department of Banking and Insurance in New Jersey and was told I have to contact the Federal Trade Commission and I asked for a telephone number. The number I was given was for a drug crisis center. Thanks, New Jersey. XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted the CFPB and was treated with respect and kindness. Thank you CFPB.

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I went to XXXX 's to purchase a coat for my son. I used the NetSpend card to make the purchase. I went back to order another coat and, although I used my pin number, NetSpend put a hild on my account which has ALL of my spending money/direct deposit from my job on it. I called them on XX/XX/XXXX and they said that the account will be unlocked in the next six business hours.I then called them on XX/XX/XXXX, after six business hours and they tell me that they are still investigating the account. Everytime I call they put me on hild never to pick up again. I am a single mom and I have no money for food, gas, or for important bills that I have to pay. Currently i am STILL on hold waiting for another agent to pick up. this is VERY frustrating. They have {$640.00} of my money on hold and will not tell me what 's happening with my money.

Complaint: Hello CFPB, Thank you so much for taking care of helpless customers who need to deal with some poor regulated bank. I am writing to complain Netspend ( XXXX XXXX ). My name is XXXX XXXX. My card number is XXXX. XXXX last year 2016 I opened both checking and savings account. At that time I chose the account plan - " Pay as you go '', which charges me a fee when I use the card but does not charge me any monthly fee. However, recently I found out that my account was locked ( not sure when did this happen ) and I did n't get any notice during this whole year. They actually had my email address and my phone number on file. They locked my account and banned me from accessing my money without ANY notice, nor did they verify my identity before doing this. I just got access to my account these days and was surprised to find that I was charged monthly fee of {$5.00} for more than 1.5 years. Their representative could do nothing but kept asking many questions, and totally wasted my time. Every time I asked them to transfer me to their supervisor, the music is going on for around 1 hour, and another similar representative picked the call. Those people are just stonewalling and wasting customer 's time. Right now I strongly suspect they lock customer 's account in purpose and then charge fees on their account. Thanks.
