Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: About XX/XX/XXXX I began working toward filing a request for an IDR plan with Great Lakes Borrower service. They had contacted me regarding an upcoming payment to be made in the amount of {$1000.00}. This is far more than I can afford right now so I went onto their website to attempt to file for an IDR. I was told I qualified for an income driven repayment plan and was directed to studentloans.gov where I began to process my request. Part of the way through that application it sent me to irs.gov where I encountered my first problem. There was some problem with the irs.gov form submitting my information. As it was only a few weeks until my due date, I did not wish to rely on paper mail. So I called Great Lakes, figuring I must not be the first person with the problem. The person on the phone did not even let me finish explaining my problem before telling me just to download the app. She said that if I submitted my request on the app I could use images of my paychecks as proof of income and not have to worry about issues with the irs website. Wonderful. So I downloaded the app and submitted the requested documents, proof of payments over the last 90 days. The service told me that my documents had been accepted and that if they needed additional information to finalize my IDR plan request they would contact me. Today, the day BEFORE my payment was due, I logged in online just to ensure that everything was properly set up, only to discover that Great Lakes had never finalized my IDR, or perhaps they did, their website is so misleading I'm not sure, and they are already processing a payment for {$1000.00}. I was told that my lDR payment would be about {$120.00}. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX, there is no way I can afford to pay over a thousand dollars a month for anything, let alone a loan which will qualify for forgiveness after 10 years of payments. I tried to contact Great Lakes, somehow they are able to process my payment on a non business day but are unable to answer the phone. I feel as though they have on their website, on their app, and through personal communication attempted to mislead me about what I needed to do to re-new my IDR. I have submitted a complaint with them as well, requesting a refund on the incorrect and early payment or that this payment be applied toward future payments. They are a horrible service, and if it is possible for me to finance my loans through someone else, I would like to do that.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: *We spent all we had on tuition {$25000.00} and I took out a Student Loan of {$16000.00}.
*After 3 years of training, the Dean of Students suspended me going into my final year. No institution, no school no one can collect tens of thousands of dollars over 3 yearsand refuse to deliver and keep all the money. It goes against Student Rights and what the law refers to as The Right to Graduate.
*The Dean of Students tried to cover this up with falsified documents and withholding information.
*The reasons the Dean gave in the Suspension Letter were not even true.
*Then the school did the impossible and stopped doing what schools do. The school ignored my grades and GPA, ignored my internship and training, ignored my classes and all my school work, tests and papers. How can a school ignore my education?
*The school not only refused to give me credit for my work, it also refused to do its own work. After collecting tuition, it stopped doing the very work I was paying the school it to do. The seminary ignored its own classes, ignored its professors work in giving me a grade, and then refused to record my grades or give me credit for the classes I completed.
The Michigan Department of Education did nothing. They supposedly held an investigation and yet in six months, the only thing they asked to see was our canceled checks, to which we showed them over {$25000.00} worth drawn from our checking account all gone.. The Department of Education here in Michigan never asked to see a single document. They claimed they couldnt do anything because the school was a seminary. It is ludicrous to make this a church & state issue when its a fraud issue. {$25000.00} was our entire savings. No school, no seminary no one can charge this kind of money and then simply refuse to do the work.
We have no money and I have no career to pay it back with and my name and credit are worthless.

Problem with personal statement of dispute
Complaint: Account sold. Nomaccounting information being provised on this account after repeated inquiries. Master promissary notes are not original contracts. Accounts have multiple servicers and can not obtain accurate information on none of these accounts. All i get is threats of wage garnishments. The amount on the account is grossly well above the cost to attend the institution. Amount on credit reporting agency is XXXX but letters sent to me is XXXX. School doesnt cost nowhere near that to attend. Accounting information needed to verify this account. Amounts on promissary notes sent to me are thousands of dollars less than being reported and letter sent to my address of garnishment. There is over 23000 difference.

Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Complaint: My student loans were previously managed by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( " Great Lakes '' ) before being transferred to XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX. I'm concerned that the information transferred was incomplete, most importantly regarding my past qualifying payments. I requested that all of my records be provided to me via email through their customer service webpage and received an email on XX/XX/XXXX, notifying me that they would be sent via email per my request. Nothing happened.
I lost track of the request that they didn't fulfill and reached out again in XX/XX/XXXX, again with no response. I think as a borrower these documents should be well organized and stored by the loan servicers. All I want is proof that I have made more payments than are currently on record because I'm a public employee and hope to use the Public Student Loan Forgiveness program. It would be unfair if all qualifying payments weren't counted due to poor clerical management on a private company 's behalf.

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: Since XX/XX/2016 I have been in foreberance and numerous times have filled out paperwork to get my payment lowered to $ XXXX/month. I am the sole income earner, my spouse is on XXXX. Im sorry, they keep telling me the lowest payment was going to be over {$300.00} a month. I make $ XXXX/hr and after all of my bills {$200.00} is pushing the max. I dont understand why they will not accept if I commit to {$150.00} a month and make it every month. I wish they would accept what I can pay each month. Why make things so difficult and stressful.

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: Hello, I have private student loans with XXXX XXXX XXXX managed by Great Lakes. On XX/XX/2018 I logged into my account with Great Lakes to check on the status of my student loans. When I clicked on account details and scrolled to the bottom where it states " Loans in this Account '', I noticed that my interest rates on the student loans had risen. I was never notified that my student loan interest rates had risen. I even checked my message center with Great Lakes to see if notification was sent, and there was no information letting me know my rates had risen. Before I go further let me go back into my history with Great Lakes to better understand the situation at hand.
I filed a complaint with CFPB about a year ago against Great Lakes because I noticed that on their website my interest rates had risen and was curious as to why. After talking with several employees in management at Great Lakes I found out that my student loans were variable. My only problem with this information was that the Great Lakes website shared no knowledge to their borrowers that their student loans were fixed or variable. Since I filled this complaint with CFPB you will know see that Great lakes have simply add the word " variable '' next to the rate under " Loans in this Account ''.
Getting back to my point on the matter at hand. Great Lakes does not supply information or alerts to their borrowers when the interest rates on the borrowers student loans have risen. The only way to find out would be to login, and discover that your payments for several months have been going further to interest. This information is vital and should be shared with borrowers so that they can make the decision to refinance to lower rates if need be. By Great Lakes not telling it's borrowers about rates rising on student loans, they are defrauding borrowers accounts and reaping the rewards.
Student loan information should be easy accessible and not hidden. My request is to have Great Lakes send alerts by email, message center, or postage mail to borrowers when it's interest rates have risen.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: MY account had been sold/transferred several times, without any notification, until a collection call would be placed. I would start making payments and then it would get sold again, but the payments i made were never applied because i was sending the money to the wrong company, and when i called the company I thought I was supposed to be paying it to, they magically have no record of receiving payments. I have been lied to repeatedly by Great Lakes, they have theatened to garnish my wages, take my tax returns, and other legal actions. i finally get into a plan i can afford, only to find out it doesnt even pay off my loan like they said it would, it just keeps paying them and never reducing the amount i owe, to the tune of {$13000.00} over the last 4 years. When I call, i get put on hold, or told they dont know whats happening, and they push me into another type of payment plan or forbearance. When i ask to speak to a manager, they never answer, or give me the run around. I cant get out of debt, and Im drowning in it.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: Parent Plus with Great Lakes. Original amount was XXXX ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and now is over 19,000. I have paid since the onset of the loan in XXXX. I have somehow been duped, lied to and placed in a never ending payment plan. How does this happen? I was unable to secure another loan to pay this one off. I DO NOT believe this type of interest gouging is legal- if this is- SHAME on them and the Fedreal Government for allowing this agency to take over these loans. I am more than happy to pay off the original debt. This new debt is way beyond my original agreement. I have been swindled. What can I do?

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I have paid my student loans on-time, every month and have started making excess payments each month with plans to make several lump sum payments this year. I contacted Great Lakes to better understand how my payments are being applied since I make excess payments larger than the amount being applied to my principal balance. It turns out they are not applying my extra payments to the principal, which is compete scam!! Instead, they apply any extra payments to the following month 's payment, never reducing my principal balance.
I have emailed them several times to request the payments be applied to principal only to receive the same script of how to apply payments to certain loans ( not the principal ). In addition, I have requested a spreadsheet of hypothetical scenario of me making a lump sum payment, so I could determine my options and they still have not provided this example, only the same repetitive script.
Great Lakes does n't make it very clear how the excess payments are being applied. If the extra payments are not applied to the principal, it does n't make sense to pay extra on student loans until you save enough to pay in full since your principal is not reduced and you could be earning 1 % interest or 5-8 % return elsewhere.
This practice should be illegal -- -

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I enrolled in XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, shortly after I was dropped because I did n't meet their criteria. In XXXX I ran my credit, surprised to see I had a federal loan amount, upon being dropped I was told that I would be responsible for equipment, not course because it was prior to 30 days. I reached out to great lakes, in order to get the matter resolved they instructed me to speak with someone at the school and if the received something in writing that they would resolve the matter, or began paying I explained that I was n't working an had XXXX kids with no income they told me that they would put my account into some sort of plan until the matter could be resolved. So I went to the school an asked for a copy of the imformation that supported me being dropped the XXXX said that id have to contact their corporate office to get any imformation because it was no longer at there facility. She gave me a XXXX number I called they told me they would have someone look into it and give me a call back. I never received a call back, after XXXX days I called back several times the last time they told me that the person handling this was out of town an would get back to me upon his arrival back. Next they were closing for fraudulent behavior an they were not allowed into records, Now I have a high student loan on my credit.
