Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: Good day, Due to the fact that I have to take care of my mother, home expenses and bills, I have not been making payments or consistent payments to my student loans. The money that was being used to make payment on all loans has now been for my mother, as we live together, care and well being as she does not work. My mother is currently attempting to appeal her XXXX which was stated by the law firm that took on her case as a 18-24 month process as she has been hospitalized with her condition for 16 times within 3 1/2 years. We are currently waiting for her doctors to set up a date for one or both of her XXXX XXXX.
I attempted/currently attempting each month to make payments to My Great Lakes which the total owed to them is {$30000.00} as of this date, XX/XX/XXXX. I put whatever I can on it when possible as I am no longer eligible for forbearance according to their website information system.
Also, I have XXXX XXXX which is {$790.00} as of XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX student loan for {$95.00} a month. When I talked to a representative vial phone call from XXXX XXXX, the gentleman stated that I may not be eligible and that he would submit my information in which time a representative will be emailing me the decision. These has not been paid for 3-4 months as my mother health has been an issue for going on four years now and I have to take care of her and her portions of the bills as we were partnering on all bills for many years.
In addition, the issue with repayment originally stemmed from the complaint I submitted from XX/XX/XXXX stating that we did not get properly educated with the constant swapping of instructor whether in beginning of the semester, mid-term, etc. We were also misled financially and job opportunity wise. This is part of the exact same reasoning XXXX XXXX XXXX were shutdown immediately in XX/XX/XXXX. This was 6 months after I filed my complaint. I must admit that I did not originally call the Administrative Director over the campus but once my case was closed I then attempted several times to call the Administrative Director with no success and by that time the news of XXXX XXXX closing had already happened.
I am nowhere close to a good financial situation as I have already did the first step to officially filing bankruptcy by completing the Certificate of Counseling through XXXX XXXX XXXX. Even still, I do not have the {$1800.00} ( {$1500.00} for hiring lawyer and {$330.00} for filing documents ) to even follow through with that. I am also sure that my income tax will be garnished and feel like I am at a dead end.
My head is spinning in some ways I do not know what to do and need some kind of assistance or relief.

Complaint: Loans cover three schools : XXXX XXXX, XXXX location ( school located XXXX, Missouri XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, OH XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, OH ( told all loans where consolidated when attending here ) I want to file a CFPB complaint against Great Lakes for my student loans for abusive practices and non-clear communication to the borrower. They have taken over all my student loans and have never been able to clearly communicate what I owe them for the past 5 years. Every phone call, letter, or text message I receive shows a different amount. I received communications that my student loan is paid off then within 2-3 months I am being told there is another student loan that I owe money on and they are sending me to collections.
1 ) XX/XX/XXXX I arranged for them to withdrawn an agreed amount on the XX/XX/XXXXof each month. They caused overdrafts to my account by withdrawing the agreed upon amount on various days of the month and not on the agreed upon date.
2 ) In XX/XX/XXXX they chose to stop trying withdrawing the amount and applied and had a court appointed withdraw from paycheck.
3 ) In XX/XX/XXXX while they were taken out court appointed amounts every two weeks, Great Lakes filed a failure to pay for the month of XX/XX/XXXX when they received over {$500.00} that month dropping my credit score over 100 points.
4 ) After they received all their funds requested then sent paperwork stating the loan was paid. Then in XX/XX/XXXX filed another court withdraw for an additional student load that they didnt ask for before.
5 ) After receiving all of the second court appointed funds, they applied to the IRS in XX/XX/XXXXand took all of my XX/XX/XXXX refund for unpaid student loans.
6 ) At the end of XX/XX/XXXX I was sent a letter being told I owed them {$18.00} on my student loan. Then in XX/XX/XXXX that I was turned over to collections for unpaid {$98.00}.
7 ) I am now being texted that if I want to clear my loan for forgiveness to call a number and no identification who it is contacting me. I dont know if its a scam, if its Great Lakes, if its another agency, if its the collections agency.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: Great Lakes has not informed us appropriately about how income-driven payment options would allocate monthly payments for my wifes student loans. My wife has been enrolled in income-based and/or income-driven plans for student loans. We made {$1000.00} monthly payment for first year and than increased payment to {$1800.00} monthly in second year. Almost all of our payments were allocated to the interest, esp graduate plus loan payments. Therefore, our total loan payments increased by at least $ 18-20K since she graduated from the XXXX school. I have personally called them many times to pay the loan amounts in a greater portion to reduce the principal amount. During those calls, they never discussed about how we can pay on monthly basis to reduce the principal amount. It seems that greatlakes failed to discuss the minimum amount needed beyond the {$1800.00} we have been paying to reduce the principal amount. Therefore, providing very poor customer service, not looking into the best interest of the borrowers, pushing the borrowers into more debt amount. This is very unethical way of doing business.

Attempted to collect wrong amount
Complaint: I placed a complaint a few months ago and that complaint went nowhere so I am here now sending in another complaint. I owe {$57000.00} to Great Lakes who took over the loan for XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX went bankrupt in XX/XX/XXXX. I attended XXXX XXXX from XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX. I feel that XXXX XXXX took advantage of not only me but to Great Lakes as well. It does not seem fair in any way that I should have to pay my loans to Great Lakes knowing that XXXX XXXX continued to provide education to me knowing they were in financial stress. I can't be the only person complaining about XXXX XXXX so I just hope this leads somewhere.

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I am seeking to participate in a class action lawsuit against the major student loan companies ; XXXX XXXX and Great Lakes. I have been repaying student loans off and on for 23 years, and my loans continue to inflate. I have always worked in XXXX XXXX but have been so misinformed by these companies that I have only been in the right program for 1 year now. I am on an IBR plan now. At times I was told I would qualify for PSLF as the XXXX XXXX program ( I am a school XXXX ). Now I am told I do not qualify but could under the PSLF program but only for the last year that I have been in the correct repayment plan. For years I contacted these companies and others trying to get help and they gave me incorrect information. My public service work goes all the way back to XXXX. I would like to see some of that work time count for the service instead of only after XXXX. I have been mislead at every turn and I can't get ahead of this loan. I now have about 5 years that would qualify under PLS but I was not in the correct plan. I was paying more a month then than I am now under the correct IBR plan. What sense does that make?

Complaint: I am writing because I am concerned that my student loan payments while with Great Lakes will not be counted toward public service loan forgiveness, even under the new Technical Corrections Act ( HR 4399 ) that was passed as part of the omnibus spending bill. Because Great Lakes consolidated me into FFEL loans and I never received information about direct loan consolidation options or how FFEL would limit my eligibility for PSLF, I am five years behind on my pathway to PSLF. I made {$18000.00} in payments that will, essentially, not count toward anything in the end, because I was in the wrong kind of loan. I had hoped the Technical Corrections Act might remedy this situation, but now I am learning that it will not. My payments would have counted under this new program if I had been in the right kind of loan, but I was not made aware of these issues.

Complaint: I finished repaying my student loans in XX/XX/XXXX and my account with Great Lakes student loan provider was closed. I received a communication from them congratulating me that my loans were repaid, and I downloaded my full payment history for my records. The payment history showed {$0.00} unpaid principle balance.
In XX/XX/XXXX I logged into my online account to print out my XX/XX/XXXX tax statement. When I logged in I saw a balance of {$30.00} in unpaid principal, and {$1.00} of unpaid interest, for a total of {$31.00}.
I promptly contacted Great Lakes. The first person I talked to was unable to explain the charges. Finally, I got through to an account manager, and when my questions persisted she told me that Great Lakes was being audited by the FSA, and that they had failed to apply an interest cap adjustment to my account at the time. They could not explain how or why they were able to reopen my account and apply these charges without notifying me. Had I not logged into get my tax statement I would not have known about these charges. Eventually, they sent me a generic statement on XX/XX/XXXX that reflected the new charge, however, I have been informed several times that this may not be the accurate amount.
I have been in contact with them twice since then. On all occasions they have told me that the amount has not " settled '' yet, and that the {$31.00} might not even be the correct amount. I requested a letter detailing the charges, and explaining how and when the interest cap adjustment was applied so I could provide it to my attorney. When they finally provided the letter, it did not include any of the information I requested.
I have been unable to resolve this issue with Great Lakes. My issues are : 1. How they were able to re-open my account and apply charges without notifying me.
2. That they made a mistake that was caught by the FSA during an audit, and that they are attempting to pass that fee along to a former customer, even after the affected account was closed.
3. That they have not been able to provide relevant or accurate information in a timely manner - or even let me know when the charge will be finalized or when I can expect a resolution.

Complaint: I found this information on the Department Of Education website! Stating the exact requirements needed for FAFSA, and prior to XX/XX/XXXX enrollment without a high school diploma? i was never given a ATB test or exam, or six hours of course work to see if i qualified? I was pressured extremely hard to sign up within a weeks notices for school, using predatory tactis, and i was told a high school diploma was not needed, so they had me sign a attestation stating i went to high school, but my high school officialtranscript states and shows i never graduated? Basically, i was lied too and the school went to work immediatley after signing the documents borrowing against my name from multiple lenders without my acknowledgement. I did not know this until i was called from lenders when they raised a red flag blocking the school from taking out anymore loans? I was shock, and the education was completley a lie, XXXX grade level math, english, and science? The Bachelor degree program is a scam, and in XXXX i fell victim to it. I was cold called from a telelmarketing firm asking me if i wanted to attend university, i knew i did not qualify without a high school.
Here the facts : 1. The attestation form used, has incorrect and untrue information on electronically signed?
2. The application used has incorrect information as well.
3. I was never given a ATB entrance exam which Department Of Education Requires 4. I was never told about stafford loans, only pell grant?
5. The school won't allow me to re-entry because of no high school diploma - so i can not finish the program 6. The attestation is fake and fraudulent, due to it being incorrect and untrue - and they did not allow me to correct any of this information 7. after i realized i was defrauded and victicm of online school fraud - XXXX XXXX XXXX calls me in XXXX, and XXXX asking me to sign up again using the same fraudulent information documents used in XXXX.
8. XXXX XXXX XXXX - XXXX states that the fake fraudulent attestation form is correct and true? But my high school transcript states other wise.
XXXX. My loan servicer - Files for False Certification ( ATB ) and False Certification ( Incorrect ), The rejected is because the attestation form that is fraudulent!
