Don't agree with the fees charged
Complaint: My Federal loan was transferred to this company about 5 years ago. I logged in and set up auto-payments that would increase every year or so to help pay off the balance faster and unfortunately for me, didn't pay much attention to the account. My original balance was {$34000.00}. I have paid over {$9000.00} to this company for my loan, and now my balance is {$35000.00}. This interest rate must be the legal max, which is absolutely not what I signed up for. My estimated 'pay off ' is in 21 years and at that time I would have paid {$70000.00} for a {$34000.00} loan. What is my interest rate? No clue. Cant be found on the website after I log in ANYWHERE. I have a feeling I received some scam letter saying my loan was being moved to this company and fell for it. I am paying off this loan with this company today in full so I don't have to deal with this SCAM any longer. But I would love some answers and to find out if I can get my {$9000.00} back/applied to my loan rather then pocketed by this 'company '.

Complaint: I am continuously receiving calls from a company called Great Lakes EDU about old school loans. I am XXXX and am no longer required to pay back the loans. I am being harassed by this entity, even after I block them ; but they still find a way to continue calling. I don't know what more I can do about it. The calls have been going on for 6 months. Complaint: Hello, My complaint is with regards to my payments on 3 of 6 accounts I have with Great Lakes loan services. I am currently on deferment and I am aggressively paying towards decreasing the interest and principal on 3 unsubsidized loans I have with Great Lakes. These loans are named XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXXXXXX and XXXX XXXX. Unfortunately, I do not have a record of the amounts owed for each of these accounts prior to making my first payment on XX/XX/XXXX ( below ), so I do not know if the money was allocated as I had authorized. On XX/XX/XXXX I authorized the following payment with clear acknowledgement from the representative of how the money was to be allocated with verbal read back : XX/XX/XXXX payment confirmation # XXXX of total payment of {$1000.00}. {$960.00} towards interest on tXXXX XXXX with {$34.00} towards principal on XXXX XXXX As of XX/XX/XXXX the balances for each account was as follows : XXXX XXXXXXXX Total Balance : {$6000.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$5400.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$610.00} ) ]. XXXX XXXX Total Balance : {$8700.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$8700.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$12.00} ) ]. XXXX XXXXXXXX Total Balance : {$4100.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$3800.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$240.00} ) ]. OnXX/XX/XXXX I authorized the following payments with clear acknowledgement from the representative of how the money was to be allocated with verbal read back : XX/XX/XXXX payment confirmation # XXXX of total payment {$1100.00}. {$870.00} towards interest ( XXXX XXXX : {$610.00}, XXXX XXXX : {$12.00}, XXXX XXXX : {$240.00} ). {$320.00} towards principal ( XXXX XXXXXXXX : {$200.00}, XXXX XXXX : {$120.00} ). OnXX/XX/XXXX I logged on to my account to see if the authorized payments had processed and found that the allocation of money was arbitrarily allocated. As ofXX/XX/XXXX the balances for each account was as follows : XXXX XXXXXXXX Total Balance : {$5600.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$5400.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$190.00} ) ]. XXXX XXXXXXXX Total Balance : {$8200.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$8200.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$12.00} ) ]. XXXX XXXXXXXX Total Balance : {$3800.00} [ Principal Balance ( {$3800.00} ) + Interest Balance ( {$3.00} ) ]. Nothing was paid towards principal on XXXX XXXX, which should have been {$120.00} as I requested as well as my request to completely pay off in full all interest ( {$610.00} ) on XXXX XXXX as of XX/XX/XXXX. Instead, {$470.00} was allocated to XXXX XXXX, which is not what I requested and {$40.00} was allocated to XXXX XXXX, which was also not requested. I was told over the phone that there would not be a problem fulfilling my request because there were no restrictions on the way I chose to allocate my payments. I purposely requested to pay the total interest accrued on the three accounts ( XXXXs XXXX, XXXX and XXXX ) in order to avoid any underlying complications. The way Great Lakes has distributed the money was unauthorized and causes confusion and frustration in determining the progress towards repaying my school loans.

Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX I went to college, a school that was sued and closed down by the Federal Trade Commission! The name of the school was named XXXX XXXX XXXX. After leaving the school, do to deceptive advertising practices, I enlisted in the US XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, to help me pay for my federal student loan, which was {$2600.00}! The military had in option to pay that off. They didn't do it. After joining, you are not allowed to have cellphones, Internet or anything like that. So that debt fell into collections, and was eventually lost, do to me moving from basic training, advance training, my duty station at XXXX XXXX Texas and finally XXXX. I saw that from time to time on my credit report. My point is that should be OFF my credit report because its way past the 7 year statute of limitations. As for the main two NEGATIVE marks on my credit report, are from XX/XX/XXXX one of which is {$3000.00} and the other is {$4000.00} ... .. These are WRONG! They are both listed as EDU. I did NOT attend ANY school in XX/XX/XXXX! Nor did I take out any loans or credit cards that equal the amount listed there! These are both erroneous marks on my credit report. I enlisted the help of XXXX XXXX to help dispute these negative marks. I been tentatively selected for a XXXX XXXX. And I don't want something that dose not even belong to me, ruin my chance at wonderful career. I have in til XX/XX/XXXX to make my case to the Point of contact at the government. Any proper debts I do have are well beyond the 7 year statute! In fact in XX/XX/XXXX I took out a auto loan for {$14000.00} and I paid that XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX!!!!

Complaint: I was told that my loans were in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. I was told by an agent named XXXX XXXX at Great Lakes on XX/XX/2011 that " If you were quoted a standard payment plan for 30 years, I can use it and after 10 years the balance is forgiven ''. This was wrong information. I paid {$760.00} for 4 years. My account was then switched to XXXX and I found out that my payments were not considered part of the PSLF program and that the loans were ever qualified for it. I then had my loans switched to XXXX XXXX and am now in the correct payment and program. I have asked to be credited the time paid towards by 120 payments over 10 years but have not been able to do so. Great lakes gave intentionally gave me bad information and is not held accountable. I should be done with 6 years of payments but now still have 8 more to go.

Complaint: This is the second time I have requested a reduction in payment from Great Lakes and received a notice 2 months later that my payment was over {$100.00} more than when I submitted. It turned out the first time XX/XX/XXXX they lost my paperwork. I had to reapply, all the time the interest continues to build.I am having this problem with Great Lakes again. I contacted them very upset. The agent took my information, saw my application sitting in the system and did something to cue it. Again, interest still adding up. I received a phone call from someone who identified themselves from Great Lakes who offered me a year payment of {$1400.00} per month which was lower than the {$1500.00} I was paying. This was a major expense and many times left me without money to pay utility bills and buy food. In XXXX, XXXX my husband had a XXXX XXXX. His company outsourced their tech services and the technicians were picked up but at a cut of {$10000.00} less in their salaries. I contacted Great Lakes again in XX/XX/XXXX as I was not able to make the payment. The agent asked me if I thought of submitting a reduction in payment application or whatever it is called and I told her that I did that last year, but the effort and annoyance only yielded me {$100.00} less, barely. She gave me an estimate over the phone based on the information I could provide which was significantly lower than what I was currently being asked to pay. I had the paperwork of everything she used to get the estimate, so my numbers were accurate. Again, I submitted my information and on this past Friday received notice from Great Lakes that on XX/XX/XXXX my payment would be {$1500.00}. I sincerely believe Great Lakes is intentionally causing significant interest accumiliations on my student loan account. As it is, my account has swelled significantly since dealing with them. I am so disgusted with them. No company can be this inept and continue to operate millions of dollars. How much has their inability to process my request cost me, twice over, in interest costs. The fact that I have another student loan separate from this one allows me to receive a reduction. I am not even able to complete my doctoral work because I have taken my all of my classes less 1 credit which I need when I defend my research findings and need to finish my dissertation but the student loan system does not allow a stop on your loan if you don't take two courses. Now XXXX College is requiring you to be enrolled to defend your proposal and I can't afford with my student loan payments. I hope CFPB can help me to acquire doable solution.

Complaint: I submitted several income driven applications to great lakes borrowing services which supposedly took " several months '' to process. Within this time period I was informed that there where no payments due as I was still in deferment. After submitting the first application on XX/XX/XXXX I patiently waited for the application to be processed, which thru many phone calls I finally determined months later after receiving not a single item of mail, that they had " no record '' of me even filing a application! So of course I then filled out and mailed yet another application from their website on XX/XX/XXXX. I followed up with many phone calls to find out a status, the whole time again being told my app was " under review ''. Now finally about 5 months into this process I am told that my loans are now in a delinquent status and my account would closed and sold to collections if I did not pay the full amount immediately, which by the way had mysteriously gained interest while in deferment!! I made many attempts to set up some sort of payment arrangement with them to no avail. Next my account was sold back to the us dept of education, who from what I can tell immediately sold it to a collection agency, and now I'm just finding out that they are taking my full federal tax refund through something called a treasury offset!! This all seems rather illegal, uncalled for, backdoor, and downright authoritarian if you ask me but what do I know? My wife and I have a child on the way and we where really counting on our refund this year please let me know if there is anything you can do to help. Thank You, XXXX

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted XXXX at Great Lakes regarding a payment that was taken out of my bank account the previous day. I advised that my forbearance does not expire until XX/XX/XXXX and they were not authorized to take the money out.They advised that they will investigate and call me back within 24-48 hours. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called them back after waiting the 48 hours I was quoted. The person on the phone advised me to wait longer and did not give a time frame. I have emails from Great Lakes stating that my loan is in forbearance, there are also messages on my Great Lakes account stating this.
