Complaint: Equifax has mishandled my information, allowing it to be easily stolen during their recent data breach from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX which will likely be used against my wishes for financial gain by the identity thieves. Equifax then tried to hide the loss of my information, neglected to notify me ( I found out via social media and had to go to their poorly made response site to check for myself ), and now has cost me several hours of my time, money ( to freeze my credit with 4 different credit bureaus ) and will continue soaking my time and money to deal with paying for and unfreezing reports as necessary in the future.

Complaint: Equifax had a data breach that lasted from midXXXX through XXXX. The hackers accessed peoples names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, drivers license numbers. They also stole credit card numbers for about 209,000 people and dispute documents with personal identifying information for about 182,000 people. And they grabbed personal information of people in the XXXX and XXXX too.
On top of that, allegedly Equifax executives sold their stock in the company before the information became public which allowed them to cash out before the bad news came out publicly ( possible insider trading? ).

I attempted to get my credit report from annual credit report, but the EQUIFAX system continues to fail. It 's bad enough that Equifax waited to tell everyone that the system was compromised and personal info stolen, but it 's made worse when you ca n't get a copy of your credit report to find out if someone has fraudulently started using your name and SSN. The site just crashes over and over. Then you type in your information and the system tells you that you are part of the system hack and your information has been stolen, but you ca n't sign up to do anything because the system is down ...

Complaint: Equifax did not properly secure my protected personal information from intrusion, such as through appropriate patching, 2-factor authentication at the point of service, segmentation of data, etc. As such, it appears my full name, Social Security numbers, birth date, addresses, and possibly driver license number is cross-matched to each other and in the hands of criminals who can use this data to breach any number of accounts in perpetuity such as my banking and financial data, medical data, legal complaints, political data, and any other number of sensitive accounts.
Further, I am unable to secure these accounts because they ask for the very personal information that is breached in order to verify my identity and approve a change.
Equifax is currently offering a limited credit monitoring service, which does n't even activate immediately. Even this had to be sought out by those who see the news reports, follow the news links to the Equifax page, which in turn link to a shady third-party website asking for 2/3 of one 's social security number plus last name and a waiver of all class action recourse in order to discover if one is among the breached accounts, only changed to waive class action recourse from the third party site if it too is breached with the sensitive data it is querying once the news of this spread. This is insufficient to the need created by their negligent protection of my information, which I did not give them myself, but which they curated as their business from other businesses.

Complaint: Equifax mishandled personal information, divulging private credit data to unauthorized sources. This is a part of the larger data breach going on this month.
As someone in the process of buying a home, with a mortgage, I have my family 's immediate well being on the line with my credit.
There was a large delay before we were even notified that our data was released without authorization - a delay which prevented me from taking proper measures to protect myself.
There have been misleading and changing results as to who was in fact affected - even after the issue, the company is unwilling to be open and help us.

This is an undue burden from a company I have never chosen to do business with - they are a vendor of my vendors/creditors.

Complaint: Equifax, and historically and well-known Credit Reporting Agency, should have used better precautions to secure personal information for my credit. Complaint: According to Equifax 's own website for checking whether or not my sensitive information ( including my SSN and other personal information ) were leaked in this latest incident, my information may be at risk of being stolen, making me EXTREMELY vulnerable to identity theft or other forms of fraud.
This is clearly due to negligence on behalf of Equifax. Their IT/Cybersecurity was entirely inadequate for the level of sensitive information they kept on their servers. Now, 143+ million Americans are at extreme fraud risk. Accounting for the fact that approximately 22.8 % of Americans are under the age of 18, roughly 3/5 of adult Americans had their sensitive identifying information leaked. At this scale, this could be should be considered a national security incident.
Not to mention, it appears that multiple Equifax executives divested their stock holdings just before the announcement broke ( see : insider trading ).
In short : I am an American who does not feel financially safe or secure. Equifax needs the book to be thrown at them. I have contacted my state and federal representatives about this issue, and I expect that the CFPB will make every effort, in conjunction with legislators and the U.S. judiciary, that Equifax is entirely liquidated and that any other organizations that hold sensitive consumer information are held to appropriate security standards.

Complaint: At around XXXX XXXX on XXXX2017 I entered my information on the site equifaxsecurity2017.com to inquire if my information was possibly compromised from the Equifax Hack . I was informed that my information was likely compromised, and encouraged to sign up for their TrustedID credit freeze services. Since then, I 've learned these results are likely randomly generated, and that the TrustedID services is another revenue generating product from Equifax. Additionally, it appears that signing up for the services bars me from participating in any class action lawsuits against Equifax should my information be compromised. This is ridiculous.
