Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Other debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I cancelled my account with XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email from XXXX regarding my remaining balance {$1400.00} ( see attached ). On XX/XX/XXXX I communicated with XXXX via their online chat system ( see attached ) and asked if I would be allowed to return the phones, and was told I could return the phones to a XXXX store for credit. On XX/XX/XXXX I returned 3 phones to the XXXX store and I called XXXX as directed to verify the return was credited ; I was told only 2 phones showed as returned in their system. I provided XXXX with the receipt number for verification and was told they would have to do an investigation into the credit for the 3rd phone. I was also informed that I would still be responsible for paying the {$1400.00} because I terminated my contract early. I informed them I would be able to make a partial payment of {$1000.00} as soon as I received the prepaid refund card from my new wireless provider, which could take up to 60 days to receive. I was told as long as monthly payments were made my account would remain in good standing and would not be sent to a collection agency. On XX/XX/XXXX I paid {$400.00} to XXXX via their online system. On XX/XX/XXXX I paid XXXX {$1000.00} via telephone and was told my remaining account balance of {$38.00} for the 3rd phone would remain in XXXX collection dept until refund was credited to account for the 3rd phone. I was assured the account would not be sent to a collection agency. On XX/XX/XXXX I called to check the status of the investigation and was told I only owed for the wireless charging pad that I had financed for a total of {$57.00}. I paid the {$57.00} during that call for the charging pad and I was told that payment satisfied the remaining balance on my account. In total I paid {$1500.00}, which was {$19.00} more than the total amount I was told I originally owed. I did not receive any further bills/notices from XXXX after the final payment I made on XX/XX/XXXX. I also did not receive any notice from the collection agency Diversified Consultants until XX/XX/XXXX, which is months after it was reported on my credit report in XX/XX/XXXX and the dates on my credit reports are also discrepant. The amount being reported on my credit report is {$600.00} with XXXX with an assigned date of XX/XX/XXXX and a delinquent date of XX/XX/XXXX ; {$600.00} with XXXX with an assigned date of XX/XX/XXXX and delinquent date of XX/XX/XXXX ; and {$600.00} with XXXX with a placed for collection date of XX/XX/XXXX. My account was never delinquent with XXXX and they continued to accept payments from me after XX/XX/XXXX, which is the delinquency date being reported on my XXXX report. I do not owe the {$600.00} or any other amount to XXXX or Diversified Consultants because my debt to XXXX was paid in full on XX/XX/XXXX. I disputed the collection/debt on all 3 of my credit reports in XX/XX/XXXX and Diversified Consultants refused to remove the collection/debt from any of my reports.

This is an attempt to correct your records, any information obtained shall be used for that purpose. Best Regards,

Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Other debt

Debt was paid
Complaint: I opened an account with XXXXXXXXXXXX sometime in 2015. The account had three lines on it. Me and my daughter and her son. Phones and phone covers were purchased. My daughter paid for this account with her personal account as we agreed. The account was paid with some for phones and some the bill. I moved to another state and my daughter continued to paid this account. No problems and never turned off. I decided to end my phone service with XXXXXXXX and kept my tablet with them that was paid by my daughter. My number was removed and with them to XXXX XXXX XXXX. I also went to XXXX and paid what was owed on my phone and tablet devices in a XXXX XXXX store. I have the receipts for this that I paid this ; XXXX for airtime and XXXX for devices. The XXXX account was still being paid by my daughter. Two phones and one tablet that was on the account. I moved back to XXXX from XXXX and we decided to get the XXXX account in my daughter 's name so it will belong to her for credit purpose. We went to the store and did that transfer and no balance was owe by me and my daughter took over this account and a new account was done in her name with a new number. I owed nothing. Then a few months later I got a bill saying I owe XXXX for some unknown reason and I sent the company that billed me the receipts I had. I also had someone calling and harassing me about this payment. This account is being paid by my daughter with my tablet on it and I have phone with XXXX XXXX XXXX. So how do I owe a account that is being paid for still? No evidence of what I suppose to pay for has been given to me.

Attempted to collect wrong amount
Complaint: I am a longtime customer of XXXX. I had all of my phone, TV and internet service with them. In XX/XX/XXXX, I received a bill for XX/XX/XXXX that was increased. I called to find out why and was told that the TV package had increased in price. I asked them if there was a promotion or discount to continue the service as-is and was told no. Not wanting to pay more for TV service, I contacted XXXX for a quote on TV, home phone and internet access and based on the lower quote than XXXX I decided to transfer my service to XXXX. I also contacted XXXX and transferred my cell phone service to them. I called XXXX to transfer my cell phone # to XXXX. I subsequently ordered all services with XXXX cancelled. I returned the XXXX router, DVR and modem to XXXX using XXXX shipping information provided by XXXX. I thought that by returning the equipment and cancelling the services that I was done with XXXX. Unfortunately I continued to be billed for XXXX services for TV, home phone and internet, even though I had cancelled the service, returned the equipment making it impossible to access the XXXX service, and had transferred my service to XXXX and XXXX. Today I received a threatening phone call from a collection agency claiming that I had not cancelled the XXXX services and owed @ {$500.00}. They said that a 'good consumer ' like me should not want an account in collections, and while the information had not been reported to the credit reporting agencies, that it was in my interests to resolve this by PAYING THE DISPUTED AMOUNT AND REQUESTING A REFUND FROM ATT once the dispute was resolved! This sounds ridiculous to me and is tantamount to a con. I told the collection agent that I would be contacting the CFPB to file a complaint. I really feel that large companies like XXXX make it difficult for consumers to cancel services, and even when cancelled and no services received by the consumer, continue to bill them so that XXXX can inflate its customer base and revenues. Today I received another phone call from another debt collector for this account. Specifically, I was called by Diversified Consultants, Inc. ( DCI ), to collect {$450.00} on behalf of XXXX. DCI 's reference # for this account is XXXX. They were polite and asked that I submit a dispute on their website www.dcicollect.com, which I will do. I told them that I would be filing this complaint with the CFPB as well.

Threatened or suggested your credit would be damaged
Complaint: I have been contacted by Diversified Consultants on several occasions in reference to a XXXX bill that they say was not paid. I closed the account and did not owe that amount at the time I closed the account. A Diversified Consultants ' representative has called for months threatening legal action as well as affecting my credit. They have also tried to settle for less but would not remove the negative account that they have reported to the credit bureaus on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. Those were the last dates they reported to the credit bureaus but they reported them several times prior to that as well. I filed a dispute with XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and I saw an increase with my credit scores but the negative collections report still appears on my credit history. On XX/XX/XXXX I received a call from a representative from XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) who offered a reduced payment of {$210.00} but also said they would still report it to the credit bureaus. I have been dealing with this issue for about a year and I have not been able to get any relief. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: Other debt

Debt was result of identity theft
Complaint: The account in question was opened back in XXXX by an ex that is now deceased. I have reported it to the original creditor, the FTC, and informed the collection agency multiple times since it was first reported to my credit reports back in XXXX. Within the past year, I have contacted the collection agency and the original creditor asking for proof that I owe this debt and they refuse to provide validation. I have disputed this with the credit bureaus and they continue to state the debt was validated without providing any proof. The collection agency is reporting that the debt took place in XXXX which is false and refuses to provide me with copies of bills or invoices. I have written correspondence to the collection agency dated XX/XX/XXXX asking for written correspondence showing me that I owe this debt and that it is not past the statute of limitations. They sent a letter back stating it was verified and did not provide me with any proof or remove the collection account from my credit report.
