Complaint: I submitted an application for a Discover credit card through their website on XX/XX/XXXX. As part of the process, they noted that they need additional information to approve the card and to confirm my identity, all of which is understandable.
However, the information they wanted was a hard copy of my Social Security card, which was issued to me ( I believe ) in XXXX or so. There's no way that this helps them in their process, and I can't understand how many applicants would actually have a decades-old card that proves nothing.
To add to the problem, they requested this information after they ran the credit check on my account - and will now send me a letter saying my application was rejected.
( And I've been a customer of their banking side for a number of years. ) I've applied for a lot of credit ( including mortgages ) over my career, and I've never been asked for this information previously.
Discover listened to my concerns and complaint but could/would not offer any resolution.

Complaint: I received an offer for a credit card from Discover by mail the last week of XX/XX/2019. It stated I was pre approved for 18 % -21 % apr on a Discover It card. I applied and was denied, they then told me I could accept a different card at 26 % apr. They then hit me with a hard inquiry for turning their TERRIBLE offer down. The interest percentage is WAY HIGHER than what I was lead to believe regardless of rates. I've never had a card with an interest rate that high. This is a bait and switch.

Discover has flat out advised me they will not assist me because I contact the CFPB. Where is the oversight? Where is the accountability for this company to act illegally, unethically, and flat out rude and deceptive at every interaction at every level within this organization.

XX/XX/XXXX, the following email was received from Discover : As a result of a recent review of the Discover it card account referenced above, we have closed your account as of the date of this letter. This action was taken for the following reason Inactivity on your account ( s ) We will credit your account with your Cashback Bonus ( or Miles ) balance if you have one. If you have any questions, our service specialists are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling XXXX Sincerely Credit Operations On XX/XX/XXXX, I called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, the service number listed on the back of the card, as well as the number listed on the bottom of the email. I was informed, in both cases, that the card could not be reactivated, and the inactivity clause was noted on the user agreement. I explained that I was saving the card for emergencies, and that If I had some advance notification regarding this action, Would have been happy to use the card in order to prevent this rather abrupt and consumer hostile action. All to no avail, my pleas fell on deaf unresponsive ears. I really feel that a professional courtesy of advance notification could have avoided all this.

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I received a call from Discover Card informing me that there was possible fraudulent use of my credit card. On XX/XX/XXXX I responded to Discover, reviewed some charges, confirmed that there were in fact fraudulent charges and cancelled the card immediately. Between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX over 120 fraudulent charges totaling {$9600.00} were made with my Discover Card. Since that time : 1 ) I filed an Affidavit of Loss with Discover Card.
2 ) I filed a Police Report with the XXXX XXXX, Ohio Police Department.
3 ) The case was brought before the XXXX County Ohio Grand Jury by the XXXX County Prosecutor.
4 ) The Defendant was indited on all counts and charged by the Prosecutor.
5 ) The Defendant appeared before an XXXX County Judge and waived his right to a jury trial. He plead guilty on all counts.
6 ) On XX/XX/XXXX The Defendant was sentenced to 30 months in prison for his actions.
This has been going on for over 16 months and Discover Card still refuses to remove the {$9600.00} in fraudulent charges from my account. They refuse to acknowledge the fact that the card was stolen and used by the Defendant to commit a crime for which he has been since convicted and sentenced to prison.
