Problem with balance transfer
Complaint: I applied for a Discover Balance transfer to pay off my XXXX account of {$18000.00}. Never got ANY KIND OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR REPSPONSE -- So I applied to XXXX XXXX XXXX for the same thing. I got an immediate answer from XXXX and the transfer to XXXX for {$18000.00} happened on XX/XX/2019. I got a statement and started paying XXXX last month. Last week I got a statement from DISCOVER for {$18000.00} I called XXXX and they said I needed to call XXXX to have THEM send the money back. So I called XXXX who said I needed to call Discover back and have them cancel the transfer. So I called Discover back today and spoke with a supervisor. She said they are not able to cancel the transaction because it was done on line NOR could they credit me the {$540.00}. We all know this is bull. SO now, have 2 - {$18000.00} balances needing a payments made to and no one to help me. NO ONE should be allowed to do this without any kind of confirmation, which I asked them for but they do not have. I think Discover CAN cancel this transaction but they refuse. I am XXXX years old and feel they are taking advantage of a senior citizen. Please help

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I disputed a charge of {$70.00} from the XXXX XXXX with Discover, after a horrible dining experience. My fiance and I waited an hour for our food. The server did not come and check on us at all. We finally received it and the quality and temperature were horrible. Asked the manager to refund us and he refused, stating we already bit into the food. We only had a few bites! I clearly stated this was my reason for disputing, yet I receive a ridiculous letter from Discover stating that they find the charge to be valid based on the merchant 's documentation. So I looked at the documentation, and all it was was a bill and a receipt that my fiance signed! I never said we didn't authorize the charge!! We didn't want to but it was either pay the bill or go to jail. Was the reason for my dispute even read?? They completely disregarded what I said, and closed the investigation! They did tell me that if I want them to continue, to complete their attached form. But I look at the form, and it's clearly not meant for me -- Talking about proof of return and cancellation.. Seriously?? AGAIN -- I never said we didn't authorize the charge ... Barely have had any issues with Discover thus far, but the way they mishandled my dispute is absurd. Going to cancel my account with them if they don't take care of this the right way.

Complaint: I have been disputing a 30 day late payment that occurred on my Discover account in XX/XX/2018. Discover has refused to do an investigation into the matter so I escalated the issue to their corporate office of Customer Advocacy and to the CEO 's office but nothing has been done. After reviewing my account with Discover multiple reasons why the late payment occurred : The minimum payment had increased around XXXX/XX/XX/2018, but the auto pay did not make this adjustment. I submitted the payment on time, via a phone payment on or around XX/XX/2018 but it bounced on XX/XX/2018, then Discover represented the phone payment XX/XX/2018 and was returned XX/XX/2018 because the Discover Financial Services representative took down my incorrect bank account number to process the payment that bounced. XXXX XXXX acknowledged to me that the payment kept bouncing because Discover had the incorrect bank information to process the payment that kept bouncing. Discover Financial Services representative made a mistake that caused my account to have a 30 day late payment. Discover Financial Services is violating my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act Section 623 ( a ) ( 3 ). Discover Financial Services never added the required sentence on my credit report stating, " Customer has disputed the validity of this account '' within the required 30 days of the disputed item. Discover Financial Services is also violating my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act Section 623 ( a ) ( 2 ) ( B ). Discover is not allowed to report inaccurate or incomplete information. The month in question of the 30 day late payment I had over {$7000.00} in my bank account and could of easily made the minimum payment or paid off the whole account in that statement period. I qualify for this removal of the late payment because I have never missed a payment before the incident or after the incident and there was negligence on Discover. Discover is reporting inaccurate, incomplete, and not verifiable information to the Credit Bureaus ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, etc ).

Complaint: I recently just applied for a new Discover Card account on XX/XX/2019. In the previous years I've had two discover card accounts ; Open road ( which is no longer a card ) and Discover IT. in which I closed both cards personally. Their was fraud on the Discover IT card, Discover closed this at my request and also they gave me an interest are of 0.99 % for closing the account and to pay it off. I was NEVER told that this will refrain from me getting a discover card in the future. Every time I apply for a discover card it says as the reason it was declined is - STATUS OF EXISTING / PRIOR DISCOVER CARD ACCOUNT is the whole reasoning. I have talk to so many customer service people at XXXX and XXXX and they stated to me that they can't change anything to get me approved, meanwhile I have perfect credit and had/have excellent payment history with discover and NEVER missed a payment, also I have two ( 2 ) student loans with Discover as well. I feel discriminated. No one at Discover wants to help with this issue and says its the " computer. '' and that they can not change it, ive asked them how long will this take, Discover informed me they are not sure. I ve NEVER heard of anything in my life in regards to this situation. I was offered a lower APR rate to pay off the account, I was never informed of any paperwork and or statements to me that I would not be able to get a discover card.

Complaint: Dear CFPB, I am a new client to Discover Financial Service. I applied for Discover It credit card on XX/XX/XXXX. I filed my application and contacted Discover for the final decision. I uploaded the most recent bank statement and a copy of my SSN card as requested. After the reviewing process, the credit analyst told me in the phone that my personal information got verified and my application got approved. I received my Discover It card on XX/XX/XXXX. I read all the materials along with it and followed instruction to activate my card ( XXXX, XXXX ). After that, I created an online account through Discover to manage my card and logged into their mobile application. I also contacted Discover ( XXXX, XXXX ) to ask how to set a PIN and questions regarding to monthly statement and payment. Around XXXX, I tried to link my XXXX card to XXXX Pay. But it returned an error that " Verification Required, Call XXXX ( XXXX ) XXXX to verify your card for XXXX Pay ''. Thus, I called XXXX again for reporting this issue ( XXXX XXXX ). First, I was told that it is a regular procedure for the account identity verification. Then, after providing all the required info, I was transferred to a representative from the Fraud and Account Protection department. They asked my social security numbers and other info again, and told me that my account still needs some operations and will be all set very soon. After that, the representative told me that I should provide further documents to verify certain info and they also sent me an email through CPSReview as follow up. The email asked me to provide SSN again and required me to sign Form SSA-89 Authorization. Furthermore, they demand me to provide a copy of current U.S. state driver 's license or limited term one or U.S. state ID card. During this time, I realized that my Discover account was blocked from their mobile app and websites. On top of that, they also declined all the transactions made by this card. As a result, I called Discover through XXXX at XXXX to solve the issue. But another representative told me that it is a normal inspection but if I could not provide above materials in 14 days then they will close my account. I argued that I have already provided all the needed and necessary documents during the application process. Moreover, I have proofed my residential address and personal identity through the phone with their agents at least twice. But they refused to unlock my account unless I provide all the documents they needed and also threatened me that it would be a negative impact on my credit history if they decided to close my account. I stated that I am a foreign citizen with work permission. So, apart from SSN, I am clearly not able to provide U.S. state driver 's license or ID card in the near future. My recent applied Indiana Real ID will take at least 30 days to deliver. But Discover insisted their demands and refused to accept my other legal documents ( such as Passport ) as an alternative. I feel extremely disappointed to service provided by Discover. And I believe that I was unfairly treated as a client. Literally, it was supposed to be my first day that enjoying their service. Instead, they suspended my account without any specific reason, which I even did not make any transaction. They also ignored customers ' special situation, or listen to their needs, or even provide alternative options. As a financial service company, it is their obligation to verify clients ' identity and avoid fraud. But, instead, they push those responsibilities to clients and repeatedly request their credentials to prove who they are, which bring huge risks of personal info leakage. The ridiculous fact is that the company has already collected those materials during application process and maintains their official channels to verify it. But they just are not willing to do it.

Complaint: I was applying for a new credit card at Discover and provided every bit of information that they requested including the all the documents proving identification. After speaking with an agent it came to light that it is required that I talk on the phone to confirm these details but I speech issues on the phone which makes talking on the phone very difficult and causes quite a lot of anxiety for me. I let the agent know that and they were respectful but did not provide another option and canceled the application. Just sad that discover could not be more assistive to me.

Complaint: I am new to Discover Bank and i put a small amount in the checking account to test it before I make the full switch to them. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I tried to use my card for gas and it was declined NSF. I called and was explained that it is because the gas station will put an authorization sometimes up to {$100.00}. I do understand that so I spoke to the gas station and I was told that, that usually happens with credit cards however debit cards it is usually {$1.00} ( I have {$75.00} in the account ). Ive had {$10.00} in XXXX XXXX before and was still able to buy gas for that amount. I then tried to use it for XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX, which both were declined. I called Discover Bank and they did not see the attempt for either two. The explanation was to contact the two companies and really no other answer was provided. I should not have to, it is time consuming, this is not a problem a consumer should be resolving and honestly I do not have this issue with XXXX XXXX or my local credit union. I did close my account with Discover but it was sad because I had such high hopes for Discover as I had such good experiences with their credit card.
