Complaint: I have a complaint against the servicer of my mortgage loan Carrington. I ran afoul of the county code enforcement ( literally a local mafia ) and they began to fine me for various infractions ( some borderline legitimate and some fabricated ). I tried to fight them and push back but at one point in time they claimed that I owed them $ XXXX and they were able to attach these fines to my house. While I was in the middle of fighting this battle in court, Carrington PAID this for me and then told me I needed to pay them! Due to divorce a few years earlier I had no safety net or reserves, and I was in no position to come up with this $ XXXX. Due to their inclusion of this amount into my mortgage I defaulted because they insisted that I take care of this entire amount. I have tried repeatedly to be reviewed for a modification or a restructured loan but have made no progress and have been given the runaround. I was able to enter into the state mandated mediation with HUD and due to that Carrington appeared to take me seriously. They actually assigned an account manager to work with me. But after a few weeks it was the same thing all over again. Misplaced documents, conflicting accounts of status, hard to reach anyone, etc. This is beyond frustrating and it was all avoidable. I should not be in this position. I have the means to afford a reasonable mortgage payment. Due to borderline extortion by the county I was hammered with unfair code enforcement fines and penalties that I was in the process of challenging in court. Then Carrington decided to pay these fines FOR ME and then demanded that I pay them.
I work full time for XXXX XXXX and I make enough income to afford a reasonable mortgage payment. Things started to go sideways for me after my divorce in 2007after 30 years my marriage simply fell apart. At that time, the business at the courier company dramatically dropped due to the recession. This caused a lot of financial issues and I ended up liquidating all reserves and my safety net. A few years later the county code enforcement people began sniffing around my home and began hitting me with various code enforcement fines. It seemed like I was targetedthey charged me {$4800.00}, then hit me for having a sandbox in the wrong part of my yard, and then this just spiraled out of control. This is relevant because they ended up adding $ XXXX in fines and junk fees and this was tied to my property so Carrington decided to pay this and then billed me directly for this full amount which led to my default on this loan.
At that time, I began trying to resolve this matter with Carrington. As described, I had the means to make a regular mortgage payment and things were fine until these code enforcement fines were added to my mortgage. However, it was very difficult to navigate the Carrington system and get anything done with them. I would send the same documents over and over. I would be transferred from department to department and could never get a status or make any progress on my request for assistance. After I filed for mediation Carrington gave my case some attention and assigned a point of contact, but after submitting my paperwork several times I am once again in limbo with no progress. I wanted to make your agency aware of the way that Carrington is conducting themselves and putting hardworking homeowners into foreclosure for no good reason.

Complaint: I filled out a loan modification on XX/XX/XXXX, no one from Carrington has contacted me I have since called them 4 times (twice week of XX/XX/XXXX) (twice in XX/XX/XXXXXX/XX/XXXX) for follow up information on the modification. I was told in XXXX the modification application was complete and someone would be contacting me no one has called. When I called in XX/XX/XXXX I was told they needed last three months of Profit and Loss statement for our business. However, no communication was given to me and I would not have know this unless I called. I did however, receive documentation sent on XX/XX/XXXX that my loan had been sold to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I am guessing because I filed a modification but Carrington is not willing to help us. I also went to receive assist from the NC Foreclosure Program and have been requesting mortgage statement from Carrington and they will not send me the information. They stated because I was in a bankruptcy but I have requested my mortgage statements several times and I have not received anything. I need those statement to receive assistance through the NC Foreclosure Program.

Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, VA XXXX XX/XX/XXXX To whom it may concern : This letter is a complaint against Carrington Mortgage Services , LLC based in California and Texas. I am filing this complaint because I believe I am getting unfair treatment in the loan modification I was approved for in XX/XX/XXXX.
Time line : Searched for home in XX/XX/XXXX Found place in XX/XX/XXXX Obtained financing for loan for down payment through my retirement savings.
Secured loan through Carrington Mortgage Services at 6 %.
After negotiating accepted price.
XXXX XXXX who used to work at Carrington messed up on loan documents where she did not secure enough funds to cover the escrow account. On the day of closing XXXX XXXX did not fax the documents over and was still recalculating numbers at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I sat at the lawyers office from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to after XXXX XXXX. In the end she was asking that I put down more money at which time I had already put down {$21000.00} taken from my retirement fund.
Six months later my mortgage payment was being increased due to this error.
In XX/XX/XXXX, I refinanced property to lower payment from {$1400.00} to {$1300.00}. Payment was manageable.
In XX/XX/XXXX received another notice that mortgage was increasing to {$1500.00}. Not enough escrow in account. In addition property taxes increased slightly. Negotiated with Carrington to have shortage spread out over a year. New payment now {$1500.00}. Over what I could afford but still paid it.
Applied for a loan modification and was accepted. New payment was decreased by only XXXX. After finding out that I would have to repay {$18000.00} upon the sale of the home, I declined the modification and continued to pay the {$1500.00} plus late fees. I was told that my home could be foreclosed on if I paid late.
Payments were late but never rolled over into next month. Suffered by paying late fees in addition I paid overdraft fees in excess of {$300.00} per month to bank to cover mortgage and utilities.
Sought help in the Virginia Cooperation Housing organization. Representative convinced me to reapply for a loan modification because that was the best option and that Carrington would help me. I reapplied in XX/XX/XXXX/XX/XX/XXXX and was denied because Carrington stated that I had not submitted all the paperwork. Paperwork was submitted through the representative at the Housing organization supposedly helping me. I called Carrington and was told to reapply and make sure I submitted all the required documents. I did so in XX/XX/XXXX and was approved. I received the paperwork for the trial period and was told in the document to not make my normal payment in XX/XX/XXXX but to start making the trial period payment of {$1200.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. I phoned Carrington I followed those instructions. No representative of Carrington ever disclosed that I would be reported to the credit bureaus as paying late. Which is what they did.
They have blocked me from viewing my account in XX/XX/XXXX when the modification was approved but I am able to now go into documents and view statements showing payments late and notes a risk of foreclosure on home if payments are not brought up to date. Ive received several letters since applying for the loan modification all providing conflicting information. ( see enclosed. ) Is there any legal action I can take to remedy this situation against this company? I feel I have been taken advantage of and no one at Carrington cares about their customers.
Ever since moving into this property I have no peace of mind and worry that their deceptive practices will still cost me my home and I lose the investment of {$21000.00} I used to purchase this place. Each document I received gave different information which is confusing to the recipient. If it is the practice of Carrington Mortgage to notate customers late on payments they should provide that information upfront when I asked them. No representative I spoke to told me to continue to make XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX's payment.
Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX Enclosures

Complaint: I refinanced a mortgage held by Carrington Mortgage Services LLC to another financial institution in XX/XX/XXXX. I closed the refinancing on XX/XX/XXXX ; the funding was completed on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted Carrington 's customer service department. During that call Carrington told me I was owed {$2200.00} by them and that I should receive a check for that amount in " 15 to 20 days. '' I asked to clarify that time frame further and was told to expect the payment by XXXX at the earliest and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX at the latest.
I have now waited more than 23 business days and 36 calendar days -- and still have not received the {$2200.00} Carrington owes me. I have called Carrington 's Customer Service department several times ( weekly ) and all Ive gotten are excuses. I was told the check for my {$2200.00} was printed on XXXX XXXX ( XX/XX/XXXX ), and then later told it was printed on XX/XX/XXXX. I was later told the check number ( # XXXX ) and that the checks in the mail. I was later told checks take a long time to get out of the building and remember, theres lots of returns being made after XXXX so the Post Office is really busy and the checks go snail mail and its really slow as a snail.
Ive been told to ask the mailman where it is. Ive been told to wait another week, and to wait another week and to wait a few more days and that you dont want to report that check missing, because then we just have to start the process all over again and it will take at least 30 days before another check is sent.
It appears Carrington is deliberately slow-rolling the process of refunding money due to their customers. Request your assistance in recovering the money due to me from Carrington.
