Company closed your account
Complaint: Last Fall, I ordered items from XXXX XXXX for delivery and placed the order on my Capital One card. However, some of these items were not delivered, and though it was only about {$25.00}, I decided to dispute that part of the charge through Capital One ( case # XXXX ). That was my big mistake.
After receiving a letter outlining the numerous steps required to make a claim ( including a demand for a " second opinion '' from another merchant, on its face an absurd request, as no intelligent company will offer in writing an opinion in such circumstances ), I decided to withdraw my claim. I made clear my feelings on these demands for such claims, and said I would be looking to take my business elsewhere when the account was settled and straightened out. In fact, I phrased it this way ; " Please put all legitimate charges back on my account so I may pay it in full and close out this account. I will take my business elsewhere while I decide how to pursue this matter further. '' From this, several months later ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ), someone decided to close this account, without such a request from me, or without notifying me of any such action. The claim was that even without an actual request for CapOne to close this account, someone did so, months after the letter was received and many more months after the original claim. I only knew this happened because I attempted to use the card and was embarrassed to have the merchant tell me it was declined.
I called to CapOne 's " customer service '', spoke to Employee XXXX, and was told only then of the closure. The reason given was that I had requested it be closed. I inquired when and how that happened, and only after some time was it claimed that my original letter to CapOne was a request to close the account. I also inquired how Capital One closed accounts, and what information was required in order to perform that task. After quite a few long pauses and some " ummm ... uhhh ... '' I was put on hold so this person could " research '' the facts. I was then told that such information was " proprietary '', and not available to customers. In other words, if someone wants to close an account, we apparently have to guess at what information Capital One needs to perform this task.
As both this conversation as well as the requests made in order to dispute a claim seem on their very face to be completely absurd, I am writing in search of answers to the following : Can they really require a statement from a third-party merchant simply to dispute a charge?
I had intended to close this account at some point, but clearly no such request was made specifically in my original letter. How does the CapOne staff see a demand to close an account in the statement listed above or in the original letter?
If indeed that was a request to close my account, it was made in Fall of last year, and the account was only closed in XX/XX/2019. Why the massive delay?
Who specifically decided this letter represented a demand to close the account?
Why was the representative I spoke to in XXXX so unable to answer my questions? I hope you can retrieve the recorded call. I asked her to maintain the call, and for a reference number for the call itself, but was told no such reference exists.
How will this closure be reported to the credit monitoring bureaus?
Why can CapOne not provide customers direct answers to direct questions? How to close one 's account should be basic, and have a simple answer.
I hope you can give this issue the attention I believe such questions deserve. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, and I look forward to a reply soon.

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: On XX/XX/2018, I made a purchase to -- what I thought was -- the XXXX Official website. I made the purchase of a {$320.00} XXXX XXXX for a XXXX present. This ended up being a fictitious website from XXXX that was taken down soon after I paid for the product. I tried to cancel the purchase, but I was told by Capital One that it would be fine and if it did not show up, then I would be covered by their Customer Protection Plan. I tried to cancel my order with the people from the website through email, but they assured me they were a legitimate company. I waited and nothing was delivered on the expected date, so I filed for a refund. I received that refund on XX/XX/XXXX. Nothing was delivered until XX/XX/XXXX, which was after XXXX, and it was not what I ordered. I received a XXXX XXXX instead of a XXXX XXXX, so I figured I would have been taken care of by Capital One.
On XX/XX/XXXX, Capital One took back the previous refund from XX/XX/XXXX and requested more information. I sent them emails between the seller and, a tracking number from the transaction, and pictures of what I received with the same tracking number.
On XX/XX/XXXX, Capital One gave me the refund, however, on XX/XX/XXXX they took back my refund twice so now the missing cost was {$650.00}. The Capital One person I talked to on the phone said they gave me the credit twice which was incorrect. Upon review, he refunded the one charge of {$320.00} and told me I needed a third-party letter for this dispute. I did get a third-party letter, but since this was a scam website, the third-party letter was not structured how they wanted it to be. They have not listened to the evidence I have provided them with that this purchase was a scam.
I have not heard anything back from Capital One under these circumstances, and I need help to get my rightful refund and to keep these businesses honest. If you have any questions or need any proof of these transactions, please contact me. I am ready to get this resolved.

Didn't receive terms that were advertised
Complaint: I opened a Capital1 XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX and met the stated terms and conditions to receive a {$500.00} welcome bonus ( via promo code XXXX ). However, despite telling me on XX/XX/XXXX via a recorded chat ( that they confirmed having ) that I had met the terms and would receive the bonus within 60 days, they have denied me the bonus, citing that though I did meet the terms of the deal, I did not meet their intentions and they would not be paying the bonus.
I cycled deposits from external accounts to exceed the {$50000.00} deposit amount required to meet the conditions of the bonus XXXX terms copied here from their email advertisement on XXXX " Open a XXXX XXXX XXXX account and deposit at least {$50000.00} between XXXX XXXX. ET on XX/XX/XXXX, and XXXX XXXX. ET on XX/XX/XXXX. When you open your account, enter your promotional XXXX. '' Capital 1 is informing me that I had to have a balance of greater than {$50000.00} in the account at XXXX point. But the terms say " deposit at least '' and not " a balance of at least. '' One agent informed me that the terms were muddied and that there is technically no reason why what I did would not have qualified me for the offer, but that they were not going to pay it out because their legal and risk team had reviewed it and told them not to pay it.
I feel taken advantage of by a big company with a legal team that is openly stating that I met the terms and conditions, but not their intentions, and that therefore they would not stand behind their terms and conditions. Additionally, they verified that a chat agent told me I would receive the bonus ( at a time when I still had 20 more days to do something different to meet the terms if they told me at that point I had not met them ).
I have written documentation via email, time stamps for phone conversations, and other documents for all of this even confirmed via Capital 1, but they will not honor their terms and conditions.
Phone Conversations were initiated on XX/XX/XXXX at approx XXXX -- ET, with specific remarks in question between XXXX ET and my final conversation with a representative named XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX at approx XXXX -- ET.
My reference ID for this case via XXXX is : XXXX A similar, but less detailed complaint also will be submitted on behalf of my spouse. Because of issues with my account, we have not tried as much to get it paid, but have been denied it still.
