Complaint: American Express declined to increase my limit, they provided me with incorrect reasoning and a false credit score. When contacting customer service on multiple occasions they told me they were transferring me to the correct department when they were realistically sending me to start a new call. This was on XX/XX/XXXX. The date the credit limit increase was requested was on the XX/XX/XXXX and they claim the request was made on the XX/XX/XXXX. This is for a corporate credit card. At this point I feel I am being discriminated against for my age or for their knowledge of my previous credit scor prior to corrections. Also, with my previous employer my credit limit was set at XXXX and now this is set at XXXX. Im being forced to utilize this credit card through my employer. I need them to correct this and provide me what is provided to the rest in my company without discrimination.

Charged too much interest
Complaint: During Hurricane XXXX I lost a huge account. I got behind in my American Express payments. I had several other credit cards who worked with me. I tried talking to American Express without success. They jacked my interest rates up to 29.99 % and then cancelled my credit card. They had men call me almost every day harassing me to pay my bill. My wife and I took out loans to pay it off and she tried to be added as a user so she could communicate with them. Because they cancelled my card they wouldn't add her, nor would they talk to her about payments. We owed about XXXX. We paid off XXXX in one lump sum ( the minimum required was XXXX ). Imagine our shock when we got a bill from AMEX STILL charging us 30 % interest and the credit card is still cancelled. They harassed me mercilessly and the men were all foreign speaking with a heavy accent and were very very pushy. Every other credit card is charging me about 11 % interest. Please help.

Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: Hello, I have a dispute my credit card company refused to resolve, but before I get into it I want to thank you for all you and the CFPB do. You have helped me in a situation once before, and I think your agency is essential for maintaining the balance between consumer protection and good business. On XX/XX/XXXX, I purchased an XXXX screen protector from XXXX XXXX for {$35.00}. The next day, I attempted to return the item but was refused. XXXX XXXX claims screen protectors fall under the category of " consumables '', and these products are not eligible for refunds. I was never once told screen protectors are " consumables '' until I chatted with an agent yesterday, nor was I ever told the item was nonreturnable. My argument stands that a lay person would not know a screen protector is a " consumable '' item, as this term generally refers to things you actually consume, like food, etc. ( which Best Buy sells ). So, I took my dispute to the next level and opened a case with my credit card company, American Express, on XX/XX/XXXX. A month goes by ( just long enough for the returns and exchanges window to pass ) and I receive a " resolution '' letter from American Express informing me XXXX XXXX saw no evidence I attempted to return the item and that they would be reinstating the charge. Obviously, if they refuse a return there would be no " evidence '', as there was no transaction, but they could check their security cameras and see I was in the store and did attempt to return the item. I even have the dated pink sticker they give you when you enter the store with product. There was no attempt made by American Express to gather more evidence from me, like a picture of said sticker, nor was I ever contacted by XXXX XXXX. Reading the dispute, American Express and XXXX XXXX seem to assume the item I attempted to return was damaged. I'm not sure how they could come to this conclusion, especially while maintaining the claim I made no attempt to return. The whole incident is disheartening and generally has the feel of big companies trying to take advantage of the consumer. Any help you may provide is welcome. Thank you in advance. Regards, XXXX XXXX

Complaint: TO : CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU [ COPY ] SUBJ : CLAIM NOTICE AGAINST AMERICAN EXPRESS ; LETTER OF INTENT TO SEEK JUDICIAL INTERVENTION AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEEDINGS FOLLOWING ( 1 ) BREACH OF CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT AND ( 2 ) VIOLATION OF LAW/REGULATIONS/POLICY REF : ( a ) AMEX PLATINUM CREDIT CARD NUMBER XXXX XXXX XXXX ( CODE XXXX ) ISSUED TO XXXX XXXX XXXX AND XXXX ( MEMBERS SINCE XX/XX/XXXX ) ; AND OTHER AMEX PRODUCTS ( b ) CONSENT ORDER US CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU AGAINST AMEX ( c ) The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act ( 50 U.S.C. 3901-4043 ; formerly Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act ) Respectfully, referenced ( a ) allowed card holder to enjoyed certain benefits of greater economic benefits as compared to regular VISA and Master Cards, as traveling at Foreign Countries was involved. The Credit Card holder was an XXXX XXXX Military Member from XX/XX/XXXX until retirement on XX/XX/XXXX, with a pattern of discrimination dating as far as XX/XX/XXXX, similarly as described within referenced ( b ). Prior to my military retirement, Credit Card holder/claimant encountered additional expenses related to that dramatic change of life, with some payments falling behind, but always covered when due notification by creditor was provided. As it pertains XXXX and XXXX XXXX, their statements were always covered, and retained, however, with the American Express Credit Card the contrary was encountered. A new pattern of calls commenced, with collection treats for Payments that were already to be paid on schedule, with hostile collection treats to suspend the Credit Card, which eventually occurred on or about XX/XX/XXXX. The word Puerto Rico immediately raised a red flag that provided lesser benefits, and with an Puerto Rico address it signified summary elimination of the Credit Card privileges. Despite 20 years of continued customer relation, their tactical advantage caused the Credit Cards to be rescinded, even when payments were made, with treats that they will never be reinstated. I never pursued AMEX benefits any further, following previous discriminatory encounters, aggravated by the fact that they were responsible for downgrading my Credit Status substantially. Such actions, linked to my separation to the Military Service were a complete violation of The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act ( 50 U.S.C. 3901-4043 ; formerly Soldiers ' and Sailors ' Civil Relief Act ). In addition, the treats of collection, plagued with discriminating statements as I had changed my Address of Record from Continental United States to Puerto Rico, caused AMEX to radically eliminate my Credit Cards ( AMEX PLATINUM and GOLD ). Their unnecessary collection practices were unbelievable discriminatory, that the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureaus Consent Order against AMEX falls short to describe what I had encountered. Subsequently, my Credit Report was substantially affected, and have encountered problems with my Credit Report history as a result of AMEX actions. Further, as it pertains to referenced Consent Order, I personally had to live thru these alleged discriminatory encounters with AMEX collections agents, legal staff and concierge services. To AMEX, the Island of Puerto Rico was considered a Foreign Country, or a Tribal location, without affording any kind of benefits under applicable Consumer Protection Laws. I can assure the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureaus Consent Order has been entirely disregarded by American Express, as it pertains to my particular case. I never received their Notice of Non-Compliance, nor their stipulated resolutions, as I would have taken an entirely different approach back then to obtain resolution and reinstatement of the Credit Card, if deemed appropriate. Their Compliance Plan and Redress actions have failed 100 % as it pertains to my particular case, without taking under consideration numerous violations to The Servicemember Civil Relief Act, not considered under the Consent Order. As we stand today, I can assure that AMEX Corporate Board either fell silence to the Consent Order, or willfully disregarded the mandates by making a complete payoff to alleged parties, or perhaps they lacked the necessary fiduciary responsibilities to manage their own affairs when face with Discriminatory Allegations that involves Race, Origin, Place of Birth and Economic Status. No matter how you see it, your Corporate Fiduciary responsibilities lacked an affirmative action policy to prevent encountered events resulting in economic damages to AMEX as a Corporation to redress encountered allegations. The expressed concerns entirely oppose your Corporate Mission Statement and Governance Framework. Despite the easy route of seeking a Consent Order, in lieu of Judicial redress by way of Class Action Complaint for encountered allegations [ Despite imposed Alternate Dispute Resolution to Card Holders ], Corporate AMEX and their Board members must understand that jurisdictions within the United States recognize the tort of Bad Faith Acts. Specifically, actions in which Corporate Financial Institutions can be held liable in tort for Bad Faith performance of their duties to Card Holder/Claimant. This tort has strong connections to the implied duty of Good Faith and Fair Dealing in contracts. The federal Uniform Commercial Code ( UCC ) defines Good Faith as Honesty in Fact and the observance of reasonable commercial standards of Fair Dealing ( UCC 1-201 ( 20 ) ). The expected Good Faith Acts are defined to exclude a variety of types of conduct characterized as 'bad faith ' because they violate community standards of Decency, Fairness or Reasonableness ( R.2d Contracts 205 ). To this date, as it involves my particular case, redress has not been obtained. Accordingly, I seek a full restitution of AMEX Platinum Credit Card Priviledges [ Yes, I fully Understand they are Privileges and Not Rights ]. Further, I seek just compensation in way of Military Reduced Annual Fees for AMEX Platinum Card members, and family. Redress must also be obtained with appropriate annotations within the Credit Bureau Reports, along with complainace to applicable mandates contained within Consent Orders. If I can be of further assistance with these matters, or to discuss particular events leading to this letter, please contact ( XXXX ) XXXX. Respectfully Yours I Remain, __________________________ XXXX. XXXX, XXXX Attorney and Counsellor at Law

It has been escalated 4 times to management and told me it would be another week for an answer. I have been lied to when I signed up for the card and never have gotten any answers on where my points are. I have also asked them to give me the registered name with XXXX to report them and the refused to give me any information. I want what I was promised. Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: I rented a car from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX. I paid for the rental on my Amex XXXX XXXX XXXX. I paid {$19.00} for Amex car rental insurance. I returned the car undamaged. The rental company alleged damage and charged my credit card an unapproved {$230.00}. I disputed the charge. Amex contacted the merchant and sent me an unreadable PDF document. I asked for a legible copy, but one was never provided and Amex closed the dispute. I then lodged a claim with Amex car rental insurance. I sent them all the documents in my possession, but some items - for example - an accident report and an estimate for the cost of repairing the damage - are not in my power to produce because there was no accident and no damage. I am in a catch 22 situation. The whole charge is fictitious and the insurance claim is being denied, and I am down by my {$230.00}. I attach a photo of the " damaged '' car taken at return

Complaint: I got a new XXXX XXXX Card through American Express. When I signed up for the card I did so through a click-through offer from " XXXX XXXX XXXX '' website that was for XXXX XXXX XXXX points for the first $ XXXX spend and then an additional XXXX points on the next {$1000.00} over the next six months. I was given a XXXX points bonus as opposed to what I should have received. I have since called in three times to have this investigated and resolved, but they have not come to any conclusions over the last 5 months! They keep telling me to just call back in every two weeks - which I find to be ridiculous. I have a print out click-through terms that were in place when I signed up, and apparently, are in place again today. Amex is claiming that I signed up during some small inferior window of time and will not investigate further or get back to me on their findings.

Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a cold call from a travel agency, The XXXX XXXX, a XXXX company, about the purchase of an all-inclusive pre-paid vacation package on my cell phone. The caller indicated that they received my information from AMEX, and they were a preferred AMEX merchant. I thought it was a little suspicious and called AMEX customer service to discuss my worries about purchasing the vacation. The AMEX representative told me that if the vacation turned out to be a fraud or scam, then I would be protected by AMEX. I tried to schedule my vacation with the travel agency in XX/XX/XXXX per the terms of the contract. It turned out that it was not a vacation, but an expensive trip to be in a high pressure time share sales pitch. The hotels that they offered were not the same as the ones they sold to us in XX/XX/XXXX. It became very apparent that it was a bait and switch. I immediately contacted AMEX with the information and sent in about 30 pages of documentation. I also sent a detailed cover letter that discussed the timeline of all actions. AMEX opened the dispute then closed it. We refiled several times and they kept closing it down. After researching online, we discovered that The XXXX XXXX had been defrauding many other AMEX customers. The XXXX XXXX uses the same modis operondi on all their victims. Some have received their refunds from AMEX, others haven't. I want AMEX to do what they promised on on XX/XX/XXXX and give us consumer protection because we were defrauded by one of their preferred merchant accounts.

Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Complaint: I've had my American Express credit card since XX/XX/2015. Since then, I have never missed or been late on a single payment. Most of the time, I pay my card of completely. Last month, I received notice that American Express was decreasing my credit limit from {$30000.00} to {$3900.00}. This has caused my financial outlook and security to be completely diminished as well as hurting my credit score. I contacted American Express to try and get my credit limit brought back to the original limit to which no one I spoke with would provide me any help whatsoever.

Trouble using your card

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Account sold or transferred to another company
Complaint: Sometime in XX/XX/XXXX I tried to use my American Express XXXX XXXX and to request for a credit increase. It was denied. I then called their call center and a representative told me that sometime in XX/XX/XXXX I should recieved a letter starring that American Express will be discontinuing the XXXX program and that all American Express cardholders accounts will be closed. My account closed?! I never recieved such a letter. Therefore I was informed by the rep that I will continue to make payments on the account, but I will be unable to use the credit card to make any charges. This was completely absurd and quite unfair to the consumer. I didnt even have the card for a year and American Express closed my account. The rep informed me that I had to reapply for a regular American Express Card, which they would have to go through the very same process as when I first applied for the card. I was quite insulted and irate about the whole situation, but then it gets worse. I then get a billing statement dated XX/XX/XXXX for the total amount due of {$1100.00} and with the minimum amount due of {$330.00} with a due date of XX/XX/XXXX. With the due date, there is a footnote stating If we do not recieve you minimum payment due by XX/XX/XXXX, you may pay a late payment fee off {$38.00} and your APR will increase to 29.99 % in penalty. Then I get a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX, a professional Debt Recovery Agency. The date of the letter is XX/XX/XXXX. The creditor : American Express with the total amount due of {$1100.00}! Thats TWO DAYS after Amex submitted the billing statement I have been turned over to a collection agency and with a completely different total amount due! And it gets more interesting : I then get a letter from American Express thats dated XX/XX/XXXX informing me that my account has been transferred over to the collection agency XXXX XXXX XXXX with a total amount due of {$1100.00}! This letter was printed after THREE DAYS AFTER I GOT THE COLLECTION LETTER! WHATS GOING ON HERE?! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ORIGINAL DUE DATE OF XX/XX/XXXX ON THE STATEMENT?! As a consumer I feel cheated. First American Express cancels the XXXX program and cancels my card without notice, then American Express cant wait to send me to collections and post to my credit report?! Quite unfair, impatient, smarmy banking/business practices! Very lowbrow.

Complaint: Amex offered a XXXX dollar credit if buying XXXX XXXX XXXX, which i did buy. I never got my credit so I inquired with AMEX via online chat. 3 reps have told me that I was wrong and that the discount was applied upon purchase which was incorrect, nothing was mentioned of a discount and I never received one up on purchase or a credit to the account ( which is how they always have worked before ) I had to inquire with 3 reps that all denied the claim. I was then mad about having spent so much time getting a promotion that should have applied automatically to which the customer care team didn't seem to care about. I asked for inconvenience credits since i spent over an hour disputing, taking away from my job. The reps said they can't issue any credit. to which I said " of course you can '' they tried to say they couldn't until they finally gave me 10. I just do not like AMEX customer care, they are ruthless and out to get you! This is horribly unethical and I did not appreciate the poor service.

Application denied
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I had contacted American Express to close out my Amex EveryDay Card ending in 61000 which they had closed out on XX/XX/XXXX. I then requested to reopen the account on XX/XX/XXXX and was told I was not qualifying for reinstatement per federal regulation and it had to have been completed within 90 days. This is a false and misleading statement, as there is no federal regulation that outlines when an account may be reinstated or reopened. I was then unfairly deceived into applying for a card again and was declined and incurred an inquiry on my credit due to AMEX customer service 's false information surround federal regulations. The only regulations that govern an account reopen request are BSA ( KYC/CIP ), Regulation Z, and Regulation B ( should the request be declined. )
