I have done this many times previously, I have had the card for almost two years now. This time an American Express representative is trying to keep my points and not give my 35 % points back.

Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt collection: I do not know

Debt is not yours
Complaint: I got a letter two days ago from American Express ( two addressed were on the letter : XXXX, NJ was on the letterhead and XXXX XXXX, FL was on the bottom ), stating I owed {$37000.00}. I have not had an American Express account for many many years. I have not had any communication with AE for years and my credit reports do not provide any evidence of it. I could not get an account now if I tried since a few years ago I got health issues and would certainly not be approved for any credit. The statute of limitations for any earlier amounts would have been way beyond any collection efforts and this threat to avoid collection activities is unethical and illegal. I will be sending them a certified letter, but would like this notes and followed up for company censure.

Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Complaint: Researched balance transfer card offers. Read terms and conditions of AMEX Everyday Credit Card. Available terms online, regarding balance transfers specifically, are 12 months 0 % APR, {$0.00} balance transfer fee. Agreed to terms. Applied for card. Was approved for card. Called AMEX to transfer balance. Was notified that card has a balance transfer cap of {$7500.00}. No Terms & Conditions available online or presented during application process indicate a cap exists. Two ( 2 ) AMEX customer services representatives ( call center + supervisor ) admit that this term is not provided online. Also admitted term applies to all AMEX cards. This particular term is presented in the T & C that are mailed with the card. I would never have applied for the card if I was notified of this cap before applying. Now my credit score has taken a hit and I have to go find another card that does not have a balance transfer cap. I have canceled the AMEX. I have no use for this card.

Other problem
Complaint: American Express keeps canceling my accounts. I do proceed with an application for a premium charge card then the card arrives within a day or two VIA XXXX overnight rush mail and after a few days AmEx cancels my account arbitrarily. However, they don't forget to charge the annual membership fee and collect on it which is upwards of {$550.00} for a platinum account and {$250.00} for gold accounts. When I call Customer Service I encourage to apply for a new card. I also receive mail solicitation. Every time I apply for a new card ( as recommended by CS ) my FICO score gets a hit. This has happened four ( 4 ) times already in the past 3 months. I feel I am being discriminated against and not sure what to do. Before all the applications my credit FICO score was above 800 which is considered excellent. Hopefully my plea for assistance will effectuate change and stop this criminal activity by American Express.

Fraud or scam

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: Domestic (US) money transfer

Complaint: As this has been demonstrated time after time, recently a call was placed to my office/home stating that AMEX fully is aware of this scam and that because of bank flaws and loop holes these perpetrators were able to scam the system. I should not be responsible for these bank flaws or loop holes. As your AMEX representative stated because of my good credit they were able to use that credit as leverage to exploit the banking system and use this as a float to extract the money. There should have been further safeguards in this system such as notification that this was not my account that they used to perpetrate the crime. There should have been safeguards that when the money was first paid by putting on the XXXX there should have been notification to my email that this money may or may not be credited and that it could take up to several months to clear. None of these safe guards were in place to show that my security was protected but because of my credit that is all that AMEX was concerned being a high net worth client. AMEX used my high net worth as leverage to make this money good. IF this was stated to me in an email or some form of a written communication this would never gone further and would have prevented this entire scenario and that is why AMEX is at fault. If safeguards were in place, I would have then read an email stating an unidentified account has been authorized to pay XXXX and that this money can be withdrawn or clawed back up to x days or months. With this type of warning, not a warning on the immediate screen if one does appear there, but an email or text telling me what someone just did, this would have stopped the SCAM immediately. Additionally, the representative of last week told me that I would hear about the verbal transaction within 48 hours. This never occurred, and I am still waiting for them to confirm that the verbal authorization from XXXX bank was not me but an imposter that would show again, how AMEX allowed this to happened and penetrate or violate their own security Again, this will be shown as was told by your representative that they would get back to me in 48 hours. IT is now 10 days later. Again, more wrong information. Having demonstrated by AMEX time and time again wrong information is given, whether it be by a representative, manager etc., every time information seems to be changing on your side of how this will be settled. Furthermore, one of the perpetrators stated that they have business partners that allows these banks to be scammed of their information This is a total scam and everyone participated in. I believe that AMEX did not follow good business practices in protecting me when the XXXX first came into my account Who did it we know, but how they did it there should be liability on AMEX and to know that the money should not be immediately cleared based on my credit alone. They knew it came from a new bank and I should have been warned and informed that this money may not be available and cleared for a period of time. And this is the warning that you should text or communicate to parties that they could be responsible for monies being clawed back etc., but that if AMEX had better protection over this it would not have happened. AMEX claims that I allowed someone on my portal, however to protect this, if a text or email was sent to me alerting that something was done, I could have asked or inquired or even perhaps you could even send a disclaimer out notifying that this money could be clawed back since this new account was not my bank account. Perhaps these are the measures that AMEX should do to prevent this from happening and I would be more than happy to make suggestions to protect your good clients. However, if these safeguards were in place, I wouldnt have given any of these people a dime to create more expenses and losses. I hope that AMEX reads this from a humanitarian perspective and uses this information to fix their system and write off these monies, restoring my good name and credit and my AMEX points of XXXX and Delta Sky Miles XXXX. IF you really value me as a customer you would use this to fix your flawed banking system as your own customer representative stated to me the other day This was just sent to XXXX XXXX XXXX will be shown to have not performed a proper security of their own account holder that impersonated one of your legitimate account holders to authorize the payment to my company. Your security was breached and the person acting on your behalf should have performed a more thorough security check by going off line and making sure this is the person that was intended to release such money and as a result of your lack and regard for who your client supposedly was and not properly authenticating same you authorized payment to my account that was clawed back. In addition to this security breach because they were able to obtain information of your client, they put this information and paid my initial credit card balance of XXXX or so and therefore induced us to spend more money on this scam ... Because they were able to steal your clients personal information and bank information this allowed this SCAM to take place. This will be shown in court and you will be liable for damages. This will go to the media etc. to show that your bank allowed these scammers to violate and steal information. I want you to pay AMEX the XXXX and I will not pursue this further. AMEX already admitted that where are flaws in the banking system and loop holes. IF you dont want this to go further, I would recommend you address this with AMEX This was just sent to XXXX XXXX XXXX Your bank will be shown that XXXX or so was fraudulently obtained by a perpetrator to pay monies owed to me and they stole the identity of one of your account holders and entered this into my AMEX portal for services that required payment. Unbeknown to me at that time, that this bank information was obtained by internal workers at your bank that are paid as business partners to obtain such information to defraud people and business like myself. As a result, when the scam was paid, they pulled off the monies back as unauthorized. IF you had better security, I would not be out this money. IF you dont want this to go further, I would recommend you address this with AMEX

Other problem
Complaint: American Express : On XX/XX/XXXX I requested a credit for an overpayment to my card. {$900.00} would be refunded to me by check to be delivered by mail. I chatted with customer service to initiate this : Depute : XXXX On XX/XX/XXXX I had requested an update with American Express about the check being issued. In which they told me an new check can be cut and expedited to me. I made several phone inquiries about the check as well. On XX/XX/XXXX, Amex issued a letter that said that the refund check was cashed. I did not personally cash that check, The check says " pay to the order of ( unreadable name ) '' and a forged signature. Posting date of XX/XX/XXXX. Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Complaint: In mid-XXXX, XXXX, after conducting significant research, I applied for and was approved for an American Express ( AMEX ) Everyday card with a {$36000.00} credit limit. I chose this card because of 2 advertised provisions - 1. {$150.00} rebate after spending {$1000.00} ( not at issue at this time ) and the ability to balance transfer with no fee and no interest until XXXX, XXXX ( this is the provision at issue ). There was no indication that the transfer amount was limited to a dollar figure, but rather depended upon a review of relevant credit-worthy factors. It was the key provision I relied upon in securing the card. On XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted AMEX, to begin the process of transferring a balance. I had hoped to transfer @ {$35000.00}, but was told that my limit was {$7500.00}, based on a policy that was in effect until XX/XX/XXXX, but was changed as of that date. I eventually spoke/chatted with 4 separate AMEX employees and none could show me on their website or in the material they sent me notifying approval of any mention of a {$7500.00} limit. In fact, 2 acknowledged that the policy starting XX/XX/XXXX was in fact the same policy I relied on, that is - that any transfer amount would not be capped by an arbitrary number but by an analysis of my credit worthiness. I will provide the photos of the relevant portions of website and docs received from AMEX. In the best light for AMEX, they made a mistake by advertising a balance transfer policy that did not take effect until XX/XX/XXXX. To me, this is a classic Bait and Switch - Induce a financial decision based upon a promise that they never intended to comply with.

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: I was charged an annual fee on this card on XX/XX/18 in the amount of {$190.00} for a XXXX Platinum card. I found out about this and down graded the card to a no fee card. In the past the credit card companies have refunded the annual fee en toto and downgraded the card within 2-3 days There were no charges or benefits of the platinum card during the two day interval. I have been informed by Amex that they will hold the refund for 45 days, and then only remit a pro-rated amount, i.e. $ XXXX/365 days * 45 days. This is the case even though there are no other parties or disputes to resolve, so a refund could still be given in 48 hours. Also they are charging for the benefits of platinum, that I as a customer can not avail myself of. In addition, they claim since they say they read a disclaimer that they have a right to break from customary dealings and hold the float and XXXX out a prorated fee on a card I can't utilize. I think this runs afoul of consumer protections. The only support at Amex were offshore agents who have little familiarity, and stressed the disclaimer. Please spread the word about this nefarious practice
