Complaint: I got a job offer and was sent a check to deposit so i could buy a laptop computer and home office supplies. I deposited the bank check drawn on The XXXX Bank for the amount of {$3900.00} on Thursday XXXX/XXXX/16 into my Santander Bank Account. I was instructed, by my new employer, to withdraw the money as soon as the funds cleared and deposit that money in a XXXX XXXX XXXX account. My employer supplied me with the account number. On Sat XXXX/XXXX/16, I checked with my bank and the funds were cleared and in my account. I withdrew {$3900.00} as directed. ( I was instructed to leave {$50.00} in my account for petty cash. ) I deposited the {$3900.00} into the XXXX XXXX XXXX account. My new employer said the vendor who would be supplying the laptop and home office equipment would take the money from that account to make the purchases. On Monday morning I got a call from my new employer saying that they needed me to deposit another check for {$2000.00} and then I became suspicious. I checked my Santander account and it was showing a negative balance of {$3900.00}.! I went immediately to the branch and spoke with the Branch manager XXXX XXXX. She told me that the bank check was fraudulent and that the funds had not cleared. I was told that the bank clears checks in two days, as a courtesey to their customers. Now truly how what I have known that the funds had not truly been cleared. I saw the funds in my account and assumed as anyone would that these funds are now available. The customer has no way of checking this. Perhaps the bank should put some kind of warning or disclaimer in place letting the customer know that the funds may not have cleared. But to be told by the bank on that it was not cleared ; it was a fraudulent check and on top of that there is nothing the Santander bank can or will do!!!! The bank assumes absolutely no reponsibility I can not believe that I am the first Santander customer who was scammed and I shocked at the Bank 's attitude and lack of customer service!!
