Problem when making payments

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

You never received your bill or did not know a payment was due
Complaint: I was shocked when I reviewed my credit report and found XXXX days late payment on the dates XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX. I am not sure how this happened, I believe that I had made my payments to you when I received my statements. My only thought is that my monthly statement did not get to me.

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem with customer service
Complaint: Have disputed two of five loans due to fraud by XXXX formerly XXXX XXXX XXXX. Navient associates have refused to look into my claim. Refuse to have me speak with a superior. Have refused to provide information about my loans to me. I have requested a copy of the alleged disbursed checks to see who has signed for them since I know I did not. The associates refused to assist me and told me to call back. I have called the Student Aid federal loan Ombudsman department to only be directed back to Navient. Apparently, there is a big scam or fraudulent activity being conducted by Navient and the U.S. department of Education. I would like to join in on a class action law suit since I have supporting documents. Two loans totalling {$4000.00} were allegedly taken out four days prior to me finishing my program. These loans were taken out by fraud. The school has been shut down since the State of California has found them to be in multiple violations of the laws.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX/ XXXX contacted me about doing the rehabilitation for my loan- the amount due was {$22000.00}. I was contacted on XX/XX/XXXX for nothing less than {$220.00} per month. Which I financially couldn't afford as a single parent. They eventually set up a wage garnishment against my wages- receiving anywhere from $ XXXX- $ XXXX+ per week. I was paid weekly. I was garnished for 3 consecutive years. Then in XX/XX/XXXX I received 2 letters from 2 different collection agencies/debt collectors. One was dated the XX/XX/XXXX from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX- from previous company Navient. The amount they were seeking was {$12000.00}. After receiving a notice from XXXX XXXX XXXX dated XX/XX/XXXX from previous company Navient. They were seeking $ XXXX- but were willing to settle for {$510.00} within 40 days of the letter. Each letter stated that I had 30 days to contact them. I have enough common sense to know they were trying to collect times 2 on my account. I contacted both debt collectors and infomed them that any further contact would result in a lawsuit.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: My wife obtained student loans and graduated from XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX. I obtained student loans and graduated from XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX. After getting married in XX/XX/XXXX, we consolidated our loans. Since XX/XX/XXXX, we have worked for XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX. We have tried over the last 2 years to obtain the public service loan forgiveness, but have been refused because of our consolidation. Similarly situated persons who did not consolidated have been granted the forgiveness. This discriminatory action is hurting my wife and I, especially since retirement will occur in the next 10 years. Please help us. We thought we did the right thing by consolidating. No one explained this dilemma in consolidation.

Keep getting calls about your loan
Complaint: I currently have multiple student loans with Navient which are all under my name and my name alone, recently I fell behind because my husband lost his job and I am providing for my whole family including a newborn. Navient has told me there is nothing they can do to help me at this time so the loans are being paid as I can pay them. Recently on XX/XX/19 Navient has started to call my Mother about the status of the loan and trying to contact me, my Mother is not co-signer on the loan and has no responsibility to pay back the loan on my behalf. Navient had reached out leaving more than 1 message for her on her personal cell phone. This company is harassing my family now over an issue that was addressed with them but they could not do anything to help. Feeding my child and keeping my home is where my money is going first and then to Navient as I can, I feel as if this company has and does use illegal tactics to harass borrowers and at no point should be contacting my family members.

Struggling to repay your loan

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: In XXXX and XXXX I and my daughters took out Parent Plus loans through NAVIENT for their college education. Daughter XXXX XXXX took out a {$20000.00} loan and daughter XXXX took out a {$23000.00} and a {$21000.00} loan. Since we were having trouble paying the monthly amount originated with the loans I called NAVIENT for an alternative payment plan. Now after eight years of payments, of {$3700.00} on time we owe {$67000.00} in principal which is several thousand more than we originally borrowed. Whats more I'll be paying $ XXXX monthly on these loans for the next 20 years -- until I'm XXXX years old. It feels like a total scam and ripoff. I can't believe this unscrupulous company would do this to college parents and their children who are trying to get ahead but will be dragging anchor for another two decades.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: To whom it may concern, I would like to file a complaint that Navient fraudulently took out {$240.00} from my checking account without my authorization. In the prior month of XXXX I successfully cancelled an auto-draft payment for student loans and it did not come out. This month on XX/XX/19 Navient took money out of my account that without my authorization. I spoke with Navient on the phone today on XX/XX/19 and they have verified that it was taken out and acknowledged today that it has been cancelled. The supervisor claims to have escalated the request to get my funds returned, but says it will take at least a week for me to get the funds returned to me. This will affect my available funds to pay necessary bills in this pay cycle. I would also like to file a complaint against the agent XXXX that answered my call. She did not ask me my concern when answering my call, and went right into asking me when I am going to make a payment. I feel is very rude and not very customer friendly. This clearly shows that this company cares nothing about their customers, or expresses empathy or any concern for the customer.

Debt collection: Private student loan debt

You told them to stop contacting you, but they keep trying
Complaint: Hello, Navient collections department is disrespectful and obscene. I was contacted about a past due debt on XX/XX/19 and was advised that I was roughly one month past due in the about of {$130.00}. I advised that I would make a payment on Friday, but I would like for my grandmother 's number removed from the account due to her being elderly. I also was trying to explain at one point I was told that she would be removed as a co-signer. The representative did not want to listen to me so I requested to speak to a manager. It took 4 times for me to constantly state that I wanted to speak to be transferred to a Supervisor who was just as rude as the representative. Her ID is XXXX and located in Indiana site. She was trying to over talk me as I was trying to explain to her what I was told perviously about removing the phone number. She also belittled me and told me if I paid my bills on time they wouldn't have to contact her in the first place, isn't this a violation of UDAAP. I am currently recovering from XXXX so most of my funds are going toward my current situation. She also told me that there are guidelines that must be met before I can qualify for co-signed removal after degrading me and questioning me about my payment not being up to date. If I am only 1 month past due on my loan repayment and being treated this way, I can only imagine the obscene behavior they are displaying towards individuals that are more delinquent then me. I advised her that I would make payment on this upcoming Friday then she stopped attempting to belittle me, this is not customer service. I also requested that the pull calls from earlier this year when someone told me that the co-signer number would be removed. She advised that if I did not have an exact date they were not going to look through my account to find out when someone told me this after I requested this be done.

Getting a loan

Student loan: Private student loan

Fraudulent loan
Complaint: My ex boyfriend took out a student loan and used my personal information to cosign on an education loan for Sallie Mae. He used my social security number, salary and employment information to take out the loan. The suspect had access to personal information since we lived together for 8 years. The loan was taken out around XX/XX/XXXX and XXXX to enroll in XXXX college in XXXX. The loan amount totaled around XXXX. I was unaware of this loan until I checked my credit report. I have tried several times to get in contact with the company regarding the loan. They stated that the account is valid because there was an electronic signature from two different computers on the loan ( XX/XX/XXXX conversation with Navient/Sallie Mae ). I submitted evidence to the XXXX police station that proved the loan was submitted fraudulently along with an FTC affidavit to Sallie Mae. They requested that text messages be sent to them to prove that this was not my loan. I stated that the evidence was already submitted to the police and a report was filed. Sallie Mae/Navient investigator " XXXX '' stated that they sent correspondence asking for a photocopy of my ID to verify my identity but I explained that I never received such a request. He also stated that since I didn't respond with a photocopy ID within 30 days, the investigation was closed. I have disputed this account with the three credit bureaus along with documentation that supports my claim that this is not my account. Sallie Mae refuses to remove this fraudulent account from my credit report despite receiving appropriate evidence that supports my claim.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I was contacted my Navient, and offered the forbearance due to lack of funds at the time. What I was not told was how much they would be adding to my account to have payment delayed while I got my financials in order. Below are the details I received today. I also ask about how this loan was obtained considering I didn't have a XXXX XXXX diploma at the time. I did not complete the application and actually thought the school have received grants for the certificate I received. It was not known until I was done and missed a payment that I was informed that I have a XXXX balance. This school did everything and even had me take a test to get my XXXX XXXX diploma after I started, which took me a couple of months. The loan was issued before I actually completed the online program for a diploma that I never even received in the mail and wants me to pay over a {$100.00} for a paper copy. At the time being young I did not understand, however now as an adult it is clear that fraud was committed for the benefit of XXXX XXXX XXXX. I have sent in appeals to navient, however they are always rejected with " missing info '' took the same form completed what was " consider missing '' not once but twice. Called to check the status and now it was never received and I need to complete a new appeal, for the third time. I am also a XXXX XXXX and was denied to have my loans put into the forgiveness program. call regarding that and given another number XXXX, that keeps hanging up on me. Can't temporarily delay making payments
Complaint: I am taking unpaid time off because I am getting ready to have a XXXX. I have filled out all appropriate FMLA paperwork to cover my job and myself during this time. I called today to see about temporarily suspending my payments while I am on XXXX leave and was flat out denied on the spot. I am actively looking into suing Navient ( still Sallie Mae, a name change wont make me forget how poorly you have treated me over the years ) for how they have handled this situation. Is it even legal for them to deny me suspension of my payments when I am getting ready to have a XXXX and am on FMLA? It cant be legal. I am seeking out legal advice now, I am hoping to have a lawsuit filed by the end of the year.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: To Whom It May Concern,I read about the lawsuit against Navient filed by CFPD and came across your contact information (Case XXXX). I understand myself to be one of the victims; illegally cheated out of repayment rights for a long time.I spent many hours on the phone with Navient customer service many years ago requesting to apply any over payments to my unsubsidized loan. They told me repeatedly that I was not allowed to do that, and any over-payment would be split between the two loans. I was upset but I went along with it, assuming what they were doing was legal.Last year, I started taking classes again, and as a result my mandatory payments stopped and loans went into deferment. I logged on to make manual payments to my loans, and to my surprise they now had the option to pick which loan to make the over-payment to. So of course I picked the unsubsidized loan, and have paid about $1000 to the unsubsidized loan since. I have made all over payments to the unsubsidized loan since I started going back to school.I logged on today and noticed that even though I picked unsubsidized as my voluntary over-payment, they split my over-payment between the subsidized and unsubsidized loans! Please help me get justice on this.Sincerely,XXXX

They are engaged in US mail fraud. Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I recently tried recertifying my income based repayment through Navient. I submitted everything required for student loan.gov in XXXX well before the deadline of XX/XX/XXXX. I provided Navient a timely copy of my tax return around the same time. I initially called on XX/XX/19 and was after talking with Navient representatives that they had received my documentation and that a tax return was all that was required. I asked if my application was now renewed but each time they said that it took a few more business days to confirm my documentation. This was consistent with their website as each time Ive submitted it the confirmation message asks for at least 10 days for processing. Navient sent me an email confirming that they had my application on XX/XX/19. Navient does not have a method to confirm your income documentation and there is no confirmation method for any of this process on their website. I found this whole process fishy as I never got confirmation that my plan was renewed only that my application was received and I never got confirmation emails when I would resubmit the tax returns. Two days before the deadline of my income-based repayment recertification on XX/XX/XXXX I was told via a single email that Navient did not have any documentation and that my income-based repayment was expiring. This occurred just before a weekend and Navient is not contactable during weekends. I was not able to contact navient prior to the deadline two days later. The deadline has passed and Navient is now going to remove me from my income based repayment plan, my loans will be capitalizing, and I my payments are going from {$180.00} to around {$1700.00} next month. I simply want Navient to have accepted the multiple tax returns that I have sent over the last two months which were well within the deadline and get to stay in my income based repayment plan. This has been a consistent theme in working with Navient as this will be my third time having to submit to the CFPB regarding Navients attempts to keep me from an income based repayment plan.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I am filing a complaint with Navient Student Loan Service regarding my most recent payment dated XX/XX/2019. Their website under my account summary says I still owe {$95.00} for XX/XX/19. They also did not carry out my allocation request when I spoke to them on XX/XX/19. OnXX/XX/19 I submitted a payment of {$1000.00}. The minimum balance due on XX/XX/19 was {$170.00} ( please see attached XX/XX/2019 pdf file ). I also called Navient on XX/XX/19 and asked them to allocate {$880.00} against Loan 1-01, and {$110.00} against Loan 1-02. I was assured this would happen and that the website would update in 24 hours to reflect the allocation request. When I went to the website it says I still owe {$95.00} ( see screen snapshot from their website, pdf file Account Summary XX/XX/2019 ).

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I acquired a personal loan through Sallie Mae with a cosigner. I set up a payment arrangements with Sallie Mae through a direct debit and then I received a letter saying that Sallie Mae was now Navient and that they would be handling by private loan. Everything was fine for about a year and then I lost my job. Navient starts harassing my cosigner. My cosigner set up payment arrangements for credit worthiness purposes. Then all the sudden they would send letters and would start calling at XXXX XXXX about a payment that had cleared at the bank XXXX days before it was due!!! Payments were misappropriated. The customer service representatives were like The Stepford Wives. I would ask to speak to a supervisor or someone in a higher position this person would take care of the situation reallocate the money the next month the same thing would happen and they would have no idea about my conversation with a supervisor the prior month ; even though the conversation was monitored and recorded for quality assurance purposes. This company is a joke!!! The XXXX XXXX XXXX says Navient has an A+ rating. I still owe {$1500.00} on a {$2800.00} loan I started paying on in 2011.
