Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I started full sail in XXXX through XXXX, I had to take a medical leave to go to a rehab. I sent in a notice as per their policy to let them know I needed a medical leave from school so I can get the medical help I needed, I wrote a letter to them. They never informed me, but when I got out of the rehab I was in my status of loans was kicked in already because they withdrew me from my classes without even telling me, so that's how this all started. Then over the years I called them numerous times to explain my loans should have never been kicked in because I was on a medical leave and was supposed to be able to start my classes again after I got out of rehab and they refused to help me what so ever. Now the loans are with navient and XXXX the top 2 deceptive loan servicers, just the other day I called navient to try to reenter into a income driven repayment plan but the agent I spoke with steered me into a forbearance threatening that if I didn't do that late payments would be reported to my credit file which is all messed up already with being victim to XXXX, XXXX and XXXX XXXX breaches, I'm working with a credit restoration company to try to fix my credit file because me and my fiance are trying to get a home for our family. I'm not sure of the amounts but I know from looking at my credit report that the interest on my loans is the only thing being added to my loans, because every month the interest being capitalized on my loans goes up by the thousands and is hurting my scores in the process, now that after the last agent I spoke with who tricked me into a forbearance looking back on that call they never told me about any other options and never told me that I'd be having payments I cant afford or that they would be reporting negatively to the credit beauraus so what they did was unethical and irresponsible I just want what's fair.

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have been paying on my student loan debt since XXXX and have seen a XXXX loan turn into XXXX. Through raising XXXX children, 3 work layoffs, and XXXX XXXX I have managed to pay and keep in good standing with my debt. I asked for help managing my loans first when they were with Salley Mae then Navient. I have begged for help as my loan keeps increasing. I found out last year ( XXXX ) from Navient that I was not on a program for the public forgiveness. I was upset but they switched me to another program and said I was on the right program. After thinking I Spent 8 years working for a nonprofit I was getting close and then started over. Well now I have been told ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I am not on a forgiveness program again. So thinking I had a year down now they are telling me I have to consolidate and apply with another company.

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I lost my job due to recession in 2010. My family had to move from XXXX to XXXX to start over, we even filed bankruptcy 2 years ago. I have went from owing Naviet {$30000.00} to now owing over {$60000.00} due to taking forbearance because of job loss. I would have rather paid smaller payments, but they did not give me that option. They have tacked on {$30000.00} in fees making it almost impossible to repay!

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: I have recently filed a claim with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. ( Case # XXXX ) Navient refused the claim stating that this complaint lists someone the company does not recognize as their customer or their customers authorized representative. Not only is this a completely false statement, it is in fact, the essence of my complaint against Navient. Navient has been authorized to speak with XXXX XXXX on more than one occasion and has spoken to XXXX XXXX on more than one occasion regarding the loans in question. Further, enclosed with the original complaint, was a Power of Attorney authorizing XXXX XXXX to act on my behalf. LET ME BE CLEAR, by this letter, I am formally authorizing XXXX XXXX to handle ANY aspect of my claim against Navient and to discuss, negotiate, settle or take any action he deems necessary with regard to any student loans in my name with Navient. The aforementioned Power of Attorney has never been revoked and remains in full force and effect ; therefore, representatives from Navient and its related entities, as well as representatives from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau may deal with XXXX XXXX as if they are dealing directly with me. Navients refusal to deal with XXXX XXXX regarding this complaint is a continuation of Navients deliberate attempt to disassociate XXXX XXXX from the Parent Loans we took out for our childrens education, thus preventing us from taking advantage of any benefits offered to XXXX veterans. Navient has been aware of XXXX XXXX status as a veteran since the first FAFSA application was filed and for every FAFSA application since. For this reason, Navient deliberately left his name off of all the student loans. By doing this, they could deny us the benefit of loan forgiveness for XXXX veterans and more insidiously, could deny us the benefit of loan forgiveness at his death. As it is a statistical probability that he will die first, thus terminating the loans, Navient chose to issue the loans with no mention of his involvement. It serves their purpose to keep a widow on the hook in order to collect loan payments for a longer period of time. Under the terms of these loans, this longer period of time would be for the duration of my life. Based on my research, this appears to be Navients standard operating procedure. The only options for relief offered by Navient result in loans being consolidated at predatory interest rates extending into perpetuity. If you want to pay your bills and try to keep a decent credit score, prepare to sign away any benefit a college education might afford you. I demand that Navient recognize that XXXX XXXX is equally responsible for the Parent Loans we took out together for the education of our children and afford him the benefits available to all 100 % XXXX veterans. Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/19 I called navient to see about getting my payments increased so I could pay my student loans faster as I saw that in the 3 years I have been paying them they have not got down in terms of amount owed. The person I spoke with said that the only way to increase my payment was through additional paperwork as I am on an " income driven repayment plan ''. I then told the customer service rep that I would like to pay around XXXX $ A month and she said the highest I could pay a month is XXXX . She then told me I could place my account in forbearance. I had sent in an application for borrowers defense and they immediately put my account in forbearance and I had called and told them no, I want to continue to pay the loan until my application was processed. I had to argue with them to continue to repay my loans instead of being put into forbearance.

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Account information incorrect
Complaint: My original student loans were with a company named XXXX. Navient purchased these debts from XXXX. I do not know what my balances were at that time. I did receive a letter in the mail at that time stating that Navient was to be my new creditor. I have never taken out a loan with Navient. I have never had any dealings with Navient, though i do acknowledge that they hold my original debts that i had with XXXX. I believe my original loans were cumulatively around the amount of $ XXXX. Every month for as far as i can look back and see, Navient has reported that i have increased and decreased the amounts of my loans. They are doing this in such a way that they maintain that the balances on my loans are atleast {$2500.00} more than is accurate and honest. This is fraud and they are knowingly doing it. Navient reports that i increase my balance by over {$2500.00} every month, and then on the last day of the month they claim that i pay the loans down by {$2500.00} ish, and ON THAT SAME DAY, they claim i increase my loans again by the same amount. due to this method of fraudulent activity, if i were to call and ask for a payoff amount on my loans right now, they would tell me that my loans are actually $ XXXX more than is accurate. This effects me in a negative manner in a couple of ways. first, it keeps my debts looking higher than they should be on my credit report. This was the dead give away to me that something wasnt right. This is why i looked into the matter and found out exactly what they are doing. secondly, this effects the amount of interest they are tacking onto my loans while my loans are sitting in deferment. With the balances looking much higher than they actually are- Navient charges an interest rate monthly on that higher fraudulent amount ( rather than a lower honest amount ). Because of this, every month, i have higher than honest amounts of interest tacked onto the over all balance of my loans.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter stating that my student loan payment was late. ( I have not made a payment in 10 years. I paid off my consolidated {$47.00}, XXXX loan to Sallie Mae when I refinanced my home on XX/XX/XXXX. ) I called Navient to find out what the payment was for. I was told that the person on the phone did not have access to my records but they would look into it and contact me again. I did not hear back from them. This happened 2 more times. In XX/XX/XXXX, I applied for a mortgage and was denied because my credit score was too low. On XX/XX/XXXX, I spoke with XXXX from Navient. XXXX informed me that on XX/XX/XXXX, My loan was transferred to a private loan. I asked " What private loan? '' I was told that XXXX needed to submit a " Payment research request '' and it would take 7-10 days to get an official answer. On Navient 's website, I can see a - {$47000.00}, a + {$47000.00} and another - {$39000.00}. I also see a balance due of {$8800.00}. I asked why the funds were posted and then removed and why only the {$39000.00} was posted back. Navient had no answer and I was told that I would need to wait for the " research request '' to come back. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called Navient again. I spoke with XXXX. XXXX could see the payment of {$47000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. She could also see the " research request '' and told me the estimated date of completion for this was XX/XX/XXXX. I asked her if this could be expedited as my mortgage application was being denied due to this error. ( I still did not know what money was owed. ) I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was transferred to XXXX. XXXX explained that there was a " parent plus '' loan ( my son 's ) which was paid in full on XX/XX/XXXX. I have no record of these loans, so I asked for a copy. I have not received it. XXXX told me that I can not see the loan on Navient 's website because it was paid off so long ago ( 10 years ). I asked XXXX why this suddenly because accountable 10 years later. XXXX said she would expedite the " research request ''. This now would take 3-5 business days. Meanwhile, my mortgage application was still waiting in the wind ... On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX called me. She stated that there were two parent plus loans that were paid off on XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX told me that I VERBALLY requested funds from the paid off consolidated loan be redirected to pay off the parent plus loans. I have no recollection of this transaction. Nor can I fathom the reasoning behind such an action. I can not even understand how this could be done. The consolidated loan was paid off for 3 months already ... How could funds be redirected after a loan was closed and paid off? To add insult to injury, I was told that the {$39000.00} was applied as a " payment in advance '' to my consolidated loan. Therefore, no payments were due until the {$39000.00} funds were depleted. This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard. I requested a copy of all documents regarding ALL loans. XXXX told me they would take approximately 7 days to gather and then they would be sent out. I specifically asked for copies of the " parent plus '' loans in my son 's name as I have no record. I also asked for any documentation regarding the alleged VERBAL transfer request. I was sent a copy of the Account Payment Information sheet showing the loan payment. I was also sent copies of correspondence beginning in XX/XX/XXXX. ( I already had these. ) I was NOT sent anything else. No records of my son 's parent plus loan ( the one the XX/XX/XXXX was applied to ) or any statements. XXXX also told me that correspondence was sent to my email account regarding the payments. She said I could see all the history on Navient 's website. I logged on. The only emails I received began in XX/XX/XXXX. The same time I received paper notification. If I agreed to this transaction, why are there no monthly statements? There are no letters, statements or other transactions for 10 years! Nothing posted on the website regarding the monthly disbursements of the {$39000.00}. How can this happen? I was told there was nothing that could be done regarding the payment and in order to resolve the issue, I would have to pay the current balance due including late fees and interest. I requested that I be allowed to pay off the original balance and forgive the interest as I was unaware of any outstanding loans. I was told this was NOT possible. In order to repair my damaged credit report, I reluctantly paid the original balance of {$8800.00} PLUS and additional {$6300.00} in interest fees and {$90.00} in late fees. This was totally unexpected and has put an undue burden on our budget as my wife and I are recently retired and living on a fixed income. Thank you in advance for anything you can do for us. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Complaint: The auto pay feature of the website is limited to the minimum payment amount. Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX, and XX/XX/XXXX, Navient placed my student loans into forbearance without my knowledge or consent. Moreover, on XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted them and requested my loans be taken out of forbearance but was told they were unable to do so. As a result, I have been prevented from earning credit for on-time payments towards both PSLF and general discharge, as well as preventing me from receiving the reduced interest rate available to individuals who use auto-pay. Given the recent unsealing of Navient 's internal memo which directs staff that " Our battle cry remains forbear them, forbear them '' I feel that this is done intentionally to defraud consumers and increase profits. Moreover, Navient fails to disclose to borrowers that their loan balance may be forgiven after a set amount of qualifying monthly payments, but forbearance prevents them from making those monthly payments.
