Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: So I have been in touch with Navient for a month or so about my financial situation and my difficulty paying off my loan with the current monthly premium of {$390.00}, and they asked for paperwork that I provided them with. But they never lowered my premium. In fact, I received an email from them today asking for {$790.00}! That is the double the original amount, which I had a hard time paying. So instead of lowering my premium, they doubled it. So I believe they are overcharging. Then I realized that there are lawsuits against them regarding the same complaint. Meanwhile, I have applied for the PSLF program and got accepted, but that has not processed for some reason. Again, I read about the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ' lawsuit. An organization that I am a member of. I have worked for governmental institutions part-time since XX/XX/2009, and full-time since this year. I love my work, and I love XXXX XXXX XXXX as a XXXX. It unreasonable and unethical for Navient to have me go through all this unnecessary and unjustified stress!

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I am simply trying ( having just spent an hour in my account at Navient.com ) to payoff my federal student loans in full. Navient, unlike Sallie Mae from whom Navient took over these loans, makes it pretty much prohibitive to do so : there is no option anywhere on the site to pay in full AND CLOSE THE ACCOUNT. There are options to make payments, but there is no final disposition option. I do not trust this company, if in fact I pay my balance, to close out these consolidated loans. In the past I have tried to pay off one of them in full but Navient just applied my payment evenly across both loans ( it was obvious given the amount paid that it matched the balance on one of the accounts ) so it could maximize the amount of interest it was getting. Now I just want to close this out and given that they literally do not provide that option on their site I have no confidence that my payment will in fact close this out, rather, that I will have this loan lingering. Note that their tactics- to inhibit/prohibit closing out accounts and thus eliminating their fees- is simply fraudulent, deceptive and maddening.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: After requesting a forbearance 3 times, and after spending nearly {$20.00} on tracking fees through the USPS, I was finally sent a letter XX/XX/2018, stating I would be charged {$0.00}. Later in XXXX, I received a letter dated XX/XX/2018, with a billing for Unpaid Fees which states is based on Total Payment Due ( Past Due Amount ) {$0.00} + Current Amount Due {$0.00} + Unpaid Fees for which they are charging me {$61.00}. I have been on food assistance through Kansas Department for Children and Families. Last year I was told by a KDCF case worker that Navient can not charge me while receiving Food Assistance. From what I've read, Navient receives funds from the federal government. I am an unpaid XXXX for my very frail XXXX year old mother. I also have a physical XXXX as documented by Social Rehabilitation Services for which I received assistance while attending college. This payment is due XX/XX/2018. I will need to borrow this money and send a 2-day arrival which will cost another $ XXXX for a total of about {$70.00}. Why is it legal for Navient to charge an Unpaid Fee? This is not the first time I have been charged this Unpaid Fee. It happened last year as well.

Incorrect information on your report

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Account information incorrect
Complaint: I was advised to file bankruptcy due to issues I had with identity theft. I called Navient after I was told by the attorney of the balance with Navient. It was around 30,000 of debt. Debt for schools I have not attended. I called Navient often and advised them that they were not mine. I completed their request for a police report. 3 times. I filed out their paperwork that I recvd in the mail & faced back. They denied me. I was told that various schools listed are not even open. I moved to Fl in XXXX. In XXXX my is & ss card were stolen. I explained this over & over again. When I speak to them, they continue to advise me to forebear the loan. Nothing is happening. The balance continues to skyrocket. I have tried contacting 1 of the schools and told I could not get any information, bc its not me. How am I in debt to something that I have no clue what it is? Or to get any information to help w the acct to get it resolved & closed. I went through the Dept. Of Education and also filed a report as suggested. The individual told me I would get a letter confirming that it had been resolved. The other concern is when I file a report, I cant give a name or anything confirming who I think abused my identity. Im literally distraught. Its destroying my credit and shows I owe so much, when I actually do not. I have attended these colleges : XXXX College XXXX XXXX College XXXX University XXXX XXXX College XXXX College All of these others I have not attended. I also had reported that XXXX college financial advisor had altered my information @ the time of enrollement. Regarding my income & or individuals in my home. I spoke to an advisor for assistance @ XXXX that told me my report in XXXX that had 6 people in my home. I would really like to get this resolved. This is unfair and I have no other options.

Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Complaint: So in XXXX while I was going through XXXX I called to concern about my loans since I'm already in court with XXXX XXXX XXXX due to the circumstance by which my loans were handed out to me and the amount. I called Navient asking them for the document of my last phone which the representative told me didn't exist but, that I have now. I also inquired with her about my loans and what I could pay.. She stated I would have to pay XXXX or XXXX and that it was the only program I qualified for. Now they approached me after 4 month with a program that I can afford but they hit my credit score each time and never offered it to me prior as if its a tactic to force the customer to pay a fee they don't have. The program I am in is fine now but. I want the full policy on the program and when the program was created and when should it be offered to me. They waited to basically financially destroy me ... not realizing that a credit score is required for a decent job and if i don't have a decent job ; then guess what? It puts me at risk of not being able to pay. The program I am in now is fine but, they stated that no late fees or interest accrued since i was offered but XX/XX/XXXX I was sent a delinquency notice. When I wrote in during XXXX using this website was the only time they started considering me for the program that fits my financial need and sent me the document for XXXX before that NO one would help so I want to thank the XXXX but, I also want Navient to provide me with the documents of the program and when it was created not just a half of a page explaining the program. Im aware i have a debt but, XXXX XXXX is fully aware of what they did to me my senior year of school causing me not to graduate and having to start from scratch. I built my credit up for Navient to give me no options and choose to destroy it within 4 month only after my credit was destroyed and I wrote in did they choose to actually help me. WHY IS THAT? Im happy with my new program but, the treatment, the inaccurate information, and the manipulation is wrong. O an then hit my credit score twice for each student loan back to back in XXXX. Meaning 6 TIMES in one month. I have 3 loans.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: When I request options for payment plans on the website, it offers me several options such as graduated repayment program, RPAY, etc ... my totals due double up and I would end up owing double of what I owe now. example If I have XXXX left to pay and request to change to new plan my new payment plan would be XXXX total owed and would be owing up until 2029. How is that helping me pay off my loan? I don't think this is fair and yes I am in a higher bracket income but I want to do the right thing and pay this off. How is this fair at all for those of us who worked so hard to get these degrees only to get ripped off and charged higher to request to pay off loans sooner.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: I am not positive about the exact date when this situation started but I was alerted to it on XX/XX/XXXX. I logged into my Navient account to discover that one of my signature loans had been put into deferment until XX/XX/XXXX. This action was done without my consent. I was given no notifications about this action by mail, email, phone or otherwise. I have sent Navient an email about this situation and I tried calling their customer service line today on XX/XX/XXXX but they are closed for the holidays. Their automatic phone directory did not say when they would open up again to phone calls. I couldn't find any explanation, on Navient 's website, as to why this action took place. My account claims that this action was taken because I have returned to school. This should not affect my loan status. My loans should never be tampered with, without my consent.

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I called Navient to find out if I could begin paying {$300.00} a month towards my student loan debt. I was rudely told by a male Navient customer service rep that {$300.00} was not going to be enough and that if I didnt pay the full repayment amount of {$1400.00} starting immediately, Navient would send my loan to a credit collection agency. I was so distraught from his threatening tone, I hung up the phone crying and without resolution. I was so shaken and felt hopeless that my only financial debt in life would/is my biggest failure ( second guessing the worth of my college degrees ) .The following day, I decided I had to try again and call Navient to settle my debt. I called Navient again and reached a very helpful female customer service rep who listened to my predicament and recommended I applied for the income driven repayment ( IDR ) plan even though I told her I had {$300.00} I could pay each month. I applied and was approved for the IDR Plan and, again, paid {$0.00} payments this past year. Im getting ready to call Navient now to go through this same drill again of finding a repayment plan that will take the repayment amount I have to offer. After reading many stories about other debtors like me going through what I have been through, I felt I needed to contact CFPB so I can possibly get help myself and/or prevent others from going through what Im going through right now. Since graduating from XXXX in XXXX, I have not been able to make payments on my student loans. When I offered to pay {$50.00} each month, I was told it wasnt enough and I might as well file for income hardship deferment or forbearance, which I have been doing for the past 20 years. I now have a total outstanding debt to Navient of {$160000.00}. I just wish Navient would have accepted my offer of $ 50 monthly repayment back in XXXX or at least worked with me on a fair payment amount. The interest that has accrued on my student loans is scary. I didnt even go to XXXX XXXX schools.

Complaint: At the beginning of the month I agreed to participate in a payment payment plan to prevent my account from defaulting. On XX/XX/2018 due to an error in my original payment I agreed to pay XXXX dollars towards a forbearance that would prevent the default. The payment plan was agreed to pay XXXX a month for three months consecutively. I received an approval letter on the XX/XX/XXXX for the forbearance. Not until the XXXX was I notified that there was an issue with the payment. Apparently my bank rejected the check however my bank stated they have no record of this payment coming through. Now navient is refusing to give me the forbearance after taking my card payment for XXXX dollars. Stating that I will have to pay XXXX plus XXXX in order to stop my account from defaulting. I am barely able to make the monthly payments and now because of an error on there part that they admitted to now my credit will be affected.

Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports: Credit reporting

Was not notified of investigation status or results
Complaint: Over the last couple of years I fell upon a tremendous financial hardship in that my XXXX XXXX causing me to lose my job and file for XXXX ( which still has not been approved ). I advised Navient on my conditions and a forbearance agreement was animated on my account sometime in early 2017. Ultimately I was forced into bankruptcy. Navient was aware of my bankruptcy proceedings. shortly after my bankruptcy was discharged I AGAIN explained to Navient that my financial condition was no better than before my bankruptcy began and that I would need a more realistic solution to my hardship without it affecting my credit. They never offered me any type of a ZERO payment solution. What I can't understand is how our government allows for all this XXXX. 1st the XXXX of a private school loan not being discharged in a bankruptcy with my hardship conditions is flat out extortion supported by our lawmakers. Our Government needs to publicly advertise that if you take out a private school loan you are better off owing the mob because at least the mob will forget your loan when they realize you can't pay. 2nd how does Navient get away with not offering a more " realistic '' solution like " NO MONEY PAYMENTS '' until ones financial situation changes? anyway enough with my rhetoric. One good thing that came into my life was my fianc. Last month he saw the torment I was going through and he made arrangements to pay off my school loan, stating " our government is designed to enslave it's people by design always was and always will be ''. HE IS 100 % CORRECT I '' VE LIVE THROUGH IT. In closing I asked Navient on numerous occasions to correct my credit reporting on the 120 days late payments to no avail. REAL RUTHLESS ORGANIZATION! So here is what brings this correspondence. Now my credit report reflects that I have paid my loan to Navient and the account is now closed. BUT MY CREDIT SCORE WENT DOWN AS A RESULT OF PAYING IT OFF AND THE ACCOUNT NOW BEING CLOSED. How is possible that I couldn't pay {$80.00} dollars a month for 4 months and that diminished my credit worthiness to garbage status and after I payoff {$3300.00} due to Navient that it goes down even further with the credit reporting agencies. Obviously it all must be by design, correct? Navient has received ALL the monies they were do inclusive of any late payments. I had ONE simple request that they provide a correction to my credit reports on the late payments as a result of the ongoing hardship. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? REMOVE THE LATE PAYMENTS OR IS IT TRULY BY DESGN THAT OUR GOVERNMENT GIVES YOU SO MUCH POWER TO TORTURE ITS CITIZENS?

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Problem with customer service
Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, XXXX I applied for loan consolidation through studentloans.gov. Navient was my servicer at the time so they processed the consolidation. I selected all existing loans on studentloans.gov for consolidation. I didn't leave one out. I wanted everything consolidated. On XXXX XXXX I called Navient and spoke to XXXX to cancel the consolidation process due to error in selecting intended servicer. I had selected XXXX XXXX by mistake. I wanted XXXX to service my loans after consolidation. XXXX told me I had a loan summary letter produced on XXXX XXXX informing me of the details of the consolidation. I had 10 days from date of letter produced to make any changes. I was well within the 10 days. XXXX submitted a request to the back office to cancel the consolidation, and informed me I should get a letter in the mail once it has been canceled. I never got that letter. Instead I got a welcome letter from XXXX XXXX dated XX/XX/XXXX. They had processed the consolidation and completely ignored my request to cancel. The consolidation didn't include all the loans as I had originally applied for. 2 separate loans were later consolidated on XX/XX/XXXX. I don't know why this occured, outside of the original consolidation process, nor was I notified of it taking place until it was finalized. I had called 2 days earlier and spoke with XXXX to have the consolidation canceled and yet the isolated loans still were processed. I then tried to file a complaint within their site, but to no avail. I called on XX/XX/XXXX and spoke to XXXX, a consolidation loan specialist from Navient. She could not resolve my situation despite confirming my request made weeks earlier on XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX informed me she would submit another request to higher ups. I also called XXXX XXXX to cancel the consolidation but they could not help me. They told me to call Navient. All Navient has done is spin me in loops. Give me the phone number to XXXX who would in turn have me call Navient to cancel the consolidation. I can never get anyone from Navient with authority to cancel or resolve my situation on the phone. All they have been able to do is submit requests to higher ups or back office, whom I never get any response from, ever. They have me wait and wait, for nothing.

Struggling to repay your loan

Problem lowering your monthly payments
Complaint: I have been deferring my payments with forbearance for a couple of years now. I haven't been able to afford the payments asked of me by Navient and STILL can't. When I tried to extend the forbearance in XXXX they told me I wasn't able to anymore. When I told them I can't afford the payment they're asking of me which is {$580.00} a month they told me they would give me a one-time " courtesy '' deferment which they then dinged me on my credit report for. I applied for income driven repayment plan through XXXX as advised by Navient and on XX/XX/XXXX I received a response saying my payments have been lowered {$440.00} a month beginning on XX/XX/XXXX. I STILL CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. Navient refuses to work with me to get me to a more affordable repayment plan. They're only considering my income and not my monthly expenses including rent, car payment, medical bills, credit card debt and living expenses. I am at a loss at what to do here. I can't afford this and the company has no sympathy in working with me to come to a solution I can afford.
