Complaint: My husband and I have been trying to get a payoff on a RV loan faxed to XXXX in XXXX, Ohio from First Merit Bank in XXXX, Ohio for the past 10 days. We are senior citizens and have decided we are getting too old to be hauling an RV everywhere. We have an interested young man who wants to buy it. His loan has been approved through the bank in XXXX. The bank requested the payoff in writing be faxed to them from First Merit. After numerous phone calls requesting the fax be sent, they are now telling us only XXXX handles that and she is out of the office. They wo n't give us XXXX supervisors name. In the meantime we have had to turn down XXXX prospective buyers because we think it is sold. Our buyer is getting impatient because he needs the RV for his business travels. Seriously 10 days to figure a payoff which the computer will do and fax a document? That 's really inefficient and unprofessional. We 've had payoff information faxed from other banks recently and they all did it while we were on the phone with them. First Merit is going to cause us to lose the sale on the RV. And we 've turned other prospective buyers down.

Complaint: I overdrew off my checking account at a bank about 4 years ago, and they went through the proper channels and had me garnished from my work, approximately one year after. The full amount that was due was taken.Courts sent me notice that the garnishment was finished and the amount was paid in full, yet it does not show on my credit report. Ive been trying to rebuild my credit but I unable to in certain areas dues to this misinformation. I would like it rectified, and closed please.

Complaint: We refinanced our XXXX mortgage in XXXX. The remainder of our 20 % loan went to XXXX bank, then was sold to First Merit sometime in XXXX. We recieved monthly statements showing our payment amount, including an amount going to principal and interest. We continued on time payments until XXXX XXXX, at which time we sold our house. At that time, there was an issue at closing, when First Merit said we had an outstanding interest balance due of over {$7700.00}. Some time between XXXX and today, they stare applying only a small portion of our monthly payment to interest and the rest to principal, and then we 're tallying up the remaining interest as something we owed behind the scenes. This was never disclosed to us on any bills, and since we knew that some amount was going to interest every month and that we were paying the mortgage down faster than expected, we did n't question whether the amount the bill showed as our interest due was accurate. The result was that instead of getting back {$2500.00} that we expected at closing, they said we owed {$4500.00}. We moved out of state and we 're prepared to take some degree of a loss on our house in order to sell quickly ; however, we would have made some very different decisions had we any indication they were not honest in allocating the money we sent. We would like to know if we have any recourse. We do not feel we should be accountable to pay this amount. It was supposed to be a 30 year loan, and for at least the first year, the money was being applied to interest. What would have happened if we 'd reached the end of the loan term? We 're they planning to hit us with XXXX dollars in unpaid interest and repossess our home?

Complaint: I have had XXXX accounts at first merit bank for over 20 years. 10 years ago I started selling items for individuals and occasionally have small estate sales. My accounts have always been individual rather than business accounts. In XXXX the bank manager said the bank flagged my account for having too many checks deposited. She informed me they wanted me to change to a business account or to supply 2 years of tax returns to prove I was claiming income from the liquidation of personal property. I complied and gave XXXX ( the other manager ) 2 years of my tax returns which were supplied by my accountant. I had assumed since I had shown that, in fact, I had claimed all income the issue with the accounts was resolved. A few weeks later I received XXXX certified letters stating that all of my accounts were being closed. Quite stunned, I called first merit and spoke with XXXX ( downtown ) and she said they were closing my accounts. I asked why. She said they did not need to explain why because they could terminate a relationship with any of their clients at any time. I had explained that I supplied what they had requested from me, and still wanted to retain my accounts. She said she would submit a request to keep the accounts open & would check to see where my 2 years of tax records showed up. I called her back 3 days later and she said since I did not give them the tax records ( which in fact I did ) as XXXX another teller at the branch confirmed that I did, they were still closing the accounts. I was never given an honest or appropriate reason that the accounts were being closed. I had done what they asked me to do. I believe this is CLEARLY a case of DISCRIMINATION and would like to allow the First Merit bank to explain their actions before I escalate further action against their institution.

Complaint: On XX/XX/2016 I went in to pay auto loan payment. I pay {$470.00} each month I pay XXXX because I wanted to catch up on 1 late payment and pay a payment coming due on XX/XX/2016. I informed teller that this money is to cover 2 payment. I got a call from bank telling me I had not paid payet for XX/XX/2016. I informed worker XXXX that made payment on XX/XX/2016. She tells me I was behind 2 payments so payments went to XX/XX/2016 and XX/XX/2016. I requested payment query, because I knew I was only behind one payment. I also went branch for print out, but they told me it could be printed out. On XX/XX/2016 I finally received print out via US mail. Print our confirms my thoughts of bank applying my payments incorrectly, and that I was only behind 1 payment as I thought. I called customer service, they told me I had to go I bto branch. Bank has lied, told me they could n't fx, and have given me the run around. The transaction they performed keeps me behind and I can be charged {$47.00} each month. I finally was able to pay 2 months so I would not charged {$47.00} late fees each month.

Complaint: My Brother passed away XXXX XXXX XXXX. I turned in his bank card to First Merit Bank Monday XXXX XXXX XXXX so that no one would be able to use it. I provided his death certificate with my ID. I was told when the account sat inactive for a period of time the funds would be released. It is XXXX XXXX and I receive a bank statement every month showing a {$1.00} fee being charged for the bank they have. The account has activity by First Merit for a card they have in their posession, the account will not ever sit inactive with them doing this.

Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I checked my account I had deposited {$59.00}. First Merit has taken {$10.00} out of my account. I had set up a savings account with First merit a few months ago with the bank Vice President XXXX XXXX. She told me that if I set up a savings account that it would cover my checking in case my account was overdrawn. My account had been overdrawn a week before by {$9.00} I did not know otherwise I would have transferred the money my self into my checking account. First Merit was supposed to had sent texts to my phone when my account was low or overdrawn they have not done that yet. I saw XXXX XXXX about this matter and contacted First Merit and they still have not activated the texts to go to my phone. XXXX XXXX asked did I want to set a up a saving but she never specified that I would have to pay {$10.00} for the savings to checking transfer. I guess she was just interested in selling the banks products!! I called on XXXX XXXX and spoke with XXXX XXXX she stated that when I signed up for the savings that I had to pay for this fee. I told her that I wanted my money back she told me " no ''. I told her that she never stated anything about the fee. She then yelled at me saying, " well do you want me to refund the {$10.00} and charge you an overdraft fee of {$35.00}! '' I said, " no '' " I want you to refund my {$10.00} period! '' I said that I should go to another banking institution that is forthcoming and honest such as a credit union. She asked did I want to close my account and I told her that I will come up to the bank when I am ready. I said, " you ca n't tell me what to do. '' XXXX XXXX stated, " I can tell you what to do and in 30 days if you do not close your account with First Merit, I will close it for you! '' I then hung up the phone.

Complaint: First merit only allows method of payment limited to those that do not have a checking account with them. In the beginning of the loan i opened a checking account which was closed due to i did not always use the account. I opened just so i had a way to make payments online. They offered a {$25.00} bonus check for opening a new account which i was not allowed to receive seeing that my account closed. Now i have to submit my payment by cash only i went in on XXXX to make a payment with {$440.00} for my payment of {$430.00}. The clerk misplaced or took {$200.00} of my payment making me late for the month payment. Advising the bank of the issue they proceeded to tell me that because of the way i look i am not trustworthy. To me this is not the proper way you treat customers and i have advised everyone to stay away from this bank. I feel like i was discriminated against due to the fact that i was a single girl that wears hoodies and jeans and not because i did not go into the bank with a suit on or dress.
