Complaint: The company claims to be the student loan assistance center or some lie. They are NOT the federal government who I have my loans with, yet they make false claims about helping borrowers for a fee. I have requested not to be contacted by them but they continue to call. I tried calling back to obtain their company information, but their employee, XXXX, hung up on me when I asked for their address. They hang up when asked for information and they continue to place unwanted calls to my cellular phone. The CFPB needs to shut this criminal organization down, they are attempting to prey on people who took out student loans by making false claims and even using President Trump 's name in their false claims. They call from phone # XXXX. The phone # they want people to call them back at is XXXX.

Trouble with how payments are being handled
Complaint: On XX/XX/19, I received a call from a number that said I was eligible for loan forgiveness because I'm a XXXX XXXX XXXX ( which I am ). I called the number back because I have heard of this program, and I was interested in more information about it. The man on the line told me that my federal loans were sold to a private company, XXXX XXXX, and that XXXX XXXX was charging me much higher interest than I actually needed to pay so that XXXX XXXX could profit. They told me that their company, Student Financial Loan Assistance, was connected with the Department of Education, and I believed them. They gave me a timeline of payments ( 3 payments of {$390.00}, 9 payments of {$200.00}, 120 payments of {$99.00} ). I gave them my bank account information and at their behest, cancelled my auto-pay with XXXX XXXX. After I considered this for a couple weeks before realizing ( luckily before it was too late to make a payment to XXXX XXXX ) that this seemed really suspicious. I contacted XXXX XXXX XXXX, and they essentially told me it was a hoax. My case number there is XXXX.

Complaint: I was scammed by a fraudulent party called " Student Loan Financial Assistance '', claiming to be a student loan finance company. They offered to refinance my student loans with a lower interest rate. I gave them my bank account information and authorization to " transfer '' my loans from XXXX to them. However, they put my payments on forbearance until XX/XX/2020 with XXXX and were attempting to do monthly direct deposit payments from my bank account. Once I realized that this was a scam, I immediately contacted my bank to close the account. I also contacted all 3 credit bureaus ( XXXX, XXXX, XXXX ) to freeze my credit score. Lastly, I contacted XXXX to remove the forbearance and added an additional password that is required when attempting to call XXXX about my account. Please bring these evil people to justice!

Struggling to repay your loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Complaint: I paid Student Loan Financial Assistance {$140.00} on XX/XX/2019 and another {$140.00} on XX/XX/2019. I have not received a single email or piece of mail regarding the status of my Student Loan or of their efforts to address the situation since I initially signed up on XX/XX/2019 ( I signed up over the phone and then received an email with a congratulations on taking the first steps to financial freedom, with further instructions that were needed to move forward ). I sent my last pay stub to confirm income and was told I qualified for income base repayment. After waiting over two months I began to get concerned and wanted to know what was going on I called their office on XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX and again on the XXXX. I spoke with a random representatives that couldnt help me and was told they would ensure my case manager would get back to me to clear things up. That never happened. When I called on the XXXX I expressed my concern that this was a scam and that I would need to take further action. I never heard back from them and called again today XXXX XX/XX/XXXX ) .. this time the phone continued to ring/on hold for XXXX mins. They must have flagged my number or something because all the other times I called in someone picked up rather quickly. Then I was prompted to leave a message which I did. I decided to write an email for my records and requested a refund and warned that I would be taking action. I did some research and found out that when you student loans are in default you can not quality for any of the same programs like income based repayment that would be available if my loan was still with The Department Of Education - so clearly I was being fed lies. After figuring out Student Loan Financial Assistance is a scam, I have been able to find a solution on my own to resolve my debt with the collection agency in charge of my student loan ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ). I am now enrolled in a rehabilitation program to get my loan out of default which is what I was hoping to do with SLFA. I was informed by the representative that assisted me that SLFA never contacted the XXXX or filed any paperwork on my behalf. I am of disputing the charges with the bank as well as taking action to prevent identity fraud etc as this company has my social security number and other confidential information.

Dealing with your lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about your loan
Complaint: XX/XX/2019, I got a phone call from the Student Loan Financial Assistance program. They call themselves SLFA. They reported that I was liable for a student loan forgiveness plan due to income. They seemed super legit. They have a website, and they gave me a phone number to call. They already had all of my information, including my social security and my address. I didn't give them either of them. I figured the only way they could know that was if they were a real company working on my loan. I was advised that if I paid XXXX for 5 months, the rest of the year I would make XXXX $ payments. After the year my loan would be put on hold as long as I kept the same income for the 105 months it would take to pay it all off. After the year of paying XXXX for 5 months and XXXX for 7 months I would not be reliable to pay any other monthly payments towards my loan. XXXX was taken out of my account XX/XX/2019, then again XX/XX/2019. No other money was taken out so it seemed legit. I recently got a call from my loan office saying I hadn't paid my monthly dues since XXXX. I went to the " account '' I had with XXXX and it states that I have paid XXXX and owe them a late fee of XXXX XXXX I tried to call them for answers and they hung up on me.

False statements or representation

Debt collection: Federal student loan debt

Attempted to collect wrong amount
Complaint: Today ( XX/XX/2019 ), I received a voicemail from a representative ( identified herself as " XXXX XXXX '' ) who presented herself as being affiliated with the federal student loan services and had updated information about my defaulted loans. I returned the call, which was answered by " XXXX XXXX '', he said " XXXX is busy but I can assist you! ". He proceeded to tell me that they were able to offer me an income-based loan repayment plan and described how it works. He asked me some " identity verification '' questions, which seem legit at the time because I believed that I was speaking with someone legit. He said that I would not have a loan payment due for 90 days, but then described 3 monthly payments of {$190.00} as a fee. I did not realize what was happening at first, it seemed like a wonderful opportunity and I was caught up in the joy of getting my credit repaired and taking care of my debt with reasonable payments. It was not evident that I had been taken advantage of and scammed until I received an email stating that my password for my federal loan account had been updated. It turns out that the man on the phone, without my knowledge and without my consent, had used my information to reset my password and access my account information. I called back to the direct line that XXXX provided and it was answered by a man named " XXXX '' who said " XXXX is busy but I can assist you! '' I told him I have spoken to enough people and I want to speak to a supervisor. He put me on hold, came back on the line a few minutes later and said he had put a hold on the transaction until XXXX could call me back. I told him I want a supervisor and he then said he would have XXXX call me and disconnected. XXXX called me a few minutes later and assured me that their company ( Student Loan Financial Assistance ) was affiliated with the department of education and were an approved loan servicer, but he did as I asked and cancelled everything. I received the email confirmation minutes later.

Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, my dad was left a message ( ( XXXX ) XXXX ) by someone under the name XXXX XXXX regarding changes in my student loan payment and they left a reference number ( XXXX ) to verify who would be calling. I followed up with them on XX/XX/XXXX about the message my dad received and they claimed to be a Student Loan Financial Assistance program that help with loan process payments. They said their part of the U.S. Department of Education which didn't leave me to question how they had my social security number, and they knew who my loan servicer was and how much my amount was. I was on the phone with a girl named XXXX who explained to me they were calling about repayment loans and their has been some changes in loan forgiveness that can be gone soon, later getting promised to consolidate my loans At this point, she offered an application to apply to a forgiveness program if eligible. I didn't think to question their credibility when talking to them because they seemed comfortable and had my my sister and dad 's phone numbers. In order to continue the process they asked if my email was okay to use so that they can send me any updates or deadlines on payments. I was then directed to XXXX who told me I qualified for the service loan forgiveness program of 12 payments around $ 70- {$100.00} within 12 months. He said that " you have to promise to follow up with the payment plan because it can affect the status of your plans. '' I agreed it was okay because they said by the 13th month my balance would be {$0.00} if I continue to send proof of my taxes every 12 months showing that I make below {$51000.00}. They said I needed to send pay-stubs of my last months pay and when I asked if they already get those from my FAFSA they said the U.S. Department of Education would get it. When I asked if my actual loan servicer would be affected they said no that's something different. I was redirected to XXXX again which didn't occur to me how fast the calls were being transferred from one person to another. She asked when I can pay the first installment and I told her XXXX and she said XX/XX/XXXX is the latest. So I said it was fine and she emails me a XXXX that included an online contract on what happened, privacy, cancellation, and the payment deadlines. I signed the e-form and was told to send my pay-stubs to 1 ) complete the payment plan 2 ) send it to XXXX. I gave them my bank routing and checking account information to complete the monthly payment plan. After that, I had emails sent about the process of the application stating it can not continue until they have my recent pay-stub. Another chain of emails regarding what happened on our call and the first payment is due, it says " We would also like to mention that any disputes with your financial institution severely hurts our relationship with our payment processing system. '' which left me questioning something was up. I did not send my pay-stubs due to how easy and fast the process and how I was able to get in contact with both of them. Once we ended the call, I had an uneasy feeling so I searched the number on XXXX to find other people being harassed by the same number saying they were a loan forgiveness advisor claiming loan payments. Some said they were being contacted even when they paid their loans years ago. After reading their comments, it matched my own experience. I checked my email to see if XXXX would email me her contact information and I see that there was a change in my FSA password during the time I called the scammers. My mom called them back and asked who they work for and said the same thing I was told. Then, she asked where their located ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, CA ) and when we looked up the address it was a motel-like building in a neighborhood. So at this point I knew they were scammers who were not affiliated with the Education Department because we called FSA and they said we don't directly call people unless there has been changed or you would have received information from us. To add, they said any fee or amount will never be asked upon upfront and anything the Education Department or their federal loan servicers can do for me and/or do myself for free.
