Closing an account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Can't close your account
Complaint: Since XXXX XXXX, 2017, I have been trying to gain access to my account with Santander, but after five attempts and no resolution, I am finally giving up. I have spoken to roughly six people at Santander and they have all claimed to try and help me, to no avail. I have requested a PIN to be sent to me three times and a checkbook to be sent to me once. Every single time, I receive NOTHING in my mail. When I ask them to close my account, they tell me I must send in a notarized letter to do so, which is unacceptable for someone who is extremely busy. Their only other two options seem to be sending me a PIN or a checkbook, both of which have not happened with FOUR tries. My account currently has {$810.00} in it.

Problem using a debit or ATM card
Complaint: On XXXX I tried withdrawing money from a Santander Bank ATM in XXXX at the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX but the money was not dispensed. After getting home and noticing that the money was debited from my account I called on the XXXX. I filed a claim with a rep on the XXXX the claim number for this call is XXXX. After calling back a few days later I was told the claim was closed and that it was determined that the money was dispensed. The representative then told me that there is video evidence that proves the money was dispensed and that the video will be sent to the nearest branch so that I could see the evidence for myself. This call happened on Saturday the XXXX of XXXX. The representative told me that another representative would call me on Monday the XXXX to give me an approximate date for the arrival of the video. I was n't given a reference number for this call as it was a response to the first call. I then called today the XXXX of XXXX to check on the status of the video being sent because I did n't receive a call from the representative and I am obviously anxious about my {$200.00} being lost and equally anxious to see the video. The new representative on the XXXX told me that she could not promise I would get to see the video because it is private property of Santander Bank. She proceeded to reopen the claim and gave me a new case number : XXXX. I am willing to take the case to small claims court to be provided the video evidence. I 've been banking with Santander for over a year now, have used their ATM many times and have never put in a claim. Why would I all of the sudden need to fake a claim for {$200.00}? All I ask for is to be given the video evidence I was promised. I do believe in the mantra innocent until proven guilty.

Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Transaction was not authorized
Complaint: I chose the option saying that the transaction was not authorized, but that is not accurate. The transaction was authorized, but they have a full refund policy that they repeatedly promise to honor but never do. On XX/XX/XXXX there is a charge of {$29.00} for the design of a logo on my account. After a few days, I called the company to ask for a refund and succumbed to an up-sale. I was told that for {$300.00} they would design a logo and build a website. On XX/XX/XXXX XXXX charged {$270.00}. After some back and forth and complaints about customer service, the logo was never completed and the website was never started. On XX/XX/XXXX I emailed the rep at XXXX asking for a refund. I was told that I would eventually get it, but after eight months, constant emails back and forth, and even an attempt to have my bank file a claim, I am still waiting for my refund. Service was never delivered and I want my {$290.00} back. Please help me. Thank you.

Banking errors
Complaint: Hello, my mother opened a UTMA account with about {$150.00}, which has now grown to {$190.00}. As per the law, UTMA accounts belong to the minor once they become of age, and the minor is legally required to be the full owner of the funds. I called Santander and they stated that they will not give me any information about this account, or let me have the funds that legally belong to me. Santander is thus violating federal law, and I demand that the account be correctly converted to be an individual account that is accessible, or that it be closed and the funds be sent to me. Illegally violating the law, and holding my money hostage, is not something that builds trust with a bank.

Charged fees or interest you didn't expect

Payday loan, title loan, or personal loan: Personal line of credit

Complaint: I had a {$5000.00} line of credit with Santander Bank. I never used it and canceled the credit line long ago. Santander continues to bill me for fees, for interest on the fees, and other charges that I do not owe. I reported this to their fraud department three weeks ago. The fraud department said they would close the line of credit. They never did and I get dunning letters and calls almost every day. I have explained the situation about a dozen times, and each person says they will take care of it, and they never do.

Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Checking or savings account: Checking account

Transaction was not authorized
Complaint: Regarding Santander Bank ( XXXX, NJ Branch ) On XX/XX/XXXX, my father ( the account owner ) XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I notified the bank of his passing, settled his $ XXXX total negative balance, bringing it to XXXX, requested to close the account. The account was not closed. Instead, the bank closed my mother 's savings account, which she was receiving her Social Security check direct deposited. Regarding XXXX : On XX/XX/XXXX, my father ( the account owner ) XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I notified the bank of his passing. An auto-pay continued to draft {$270.00} from the previously mentioned Santander Bank to XXXX. I notified XXXX of this post-mortem auto-pay, and they have not canceled / refunded it. I then contacted an Account Manager and emailed him a record of the Santander auto-payment to XXXX, and nothing as been remedied yet. Neither bank seems willing to help remedy this situation, and Santander Bank continues to charge {$35.00} insufficient fund fees, as well as keeping the account open, due to the new negative balance.

Fees or interest

Credit card or prepaid card: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Problem with fees
Complaint: I opened a XXXX credit card account with Santander in XX/XX/XXXX. I subsequently cancelled it on XX/XX/XXXX but paid the annual fee that was due prior to my cancellation ( XX/XX/XXXX ). I sent the cancellation request via certified mail return receipt requested. For their billing cycle XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX I received a bill for fees and interest in the amount of {$49.00}. I returned a letter reminding them I 'd cancelled the account a year before and included copies of the certified mail receipts. A few days later I received a call from Santander requesting I call them which I did on XX/XX/XXXX ; I had long conversations with several Santander employees explaining the situation until XXXX ( # XXXX - no last names ) who assured me the account would be closed and all fees, including interest of {$1.00} which had already accrued, would be deleted. This week I received a bill for the original {$49.00} plus {$26.00} fees and interest. I think it important to point out that my husband went through this same process with Santander less than a year ago ( case # XXXX ).

Unexpected or other fees

Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service: International money transfer

Complaint: My husband tried to wire {$4000.00} to his ailing parents in XXXX. He went to the branch of Santander Bank on XXXX XXXX in the XXXX XXXX of XXXX ( zip code XXXX ). The bank record showed that on XXXX XXXX, {$4000.00} as well as {$40.00} wire transfer fee were taken out of our checking account. On XXXX XXXX, I received a message from the branch manager saying that there was a problem. I talked to the manager who told me there was a discrepancy for the receiving account ( name and account number did not match ). I told her that I did not have the relevant information to help her and my husband was out of town but he would be back Monday. My husband went to see the manager on Monday and together with the branch manager they figured out the typo. He told me everything was all set. On XXXX XXXX, I found XXXX entries on my account : " incoming wire transfer ER '' for {$3900.00} and " incoming wire transfer fee '' of {$13.00} dated XXXX XXXX. So my husband 's wire transfer did not go through but we were charged a total of {$93.00} in fees ( for nothing ). This is outrageous. An outright highway robbery. Today, my husband went to see the branch manager who only agreed to refund {$13.00} for the incoming wire transfer fee. We will still be out {$80.00}. I do not know how wire transfer works but common sense tells me this is just not right, if not out right fraudulent.
