Complaint: I previously filed the following claim : Case number : XXXX. At the conclusion of the claim, I received the attached letter from XXXX. The letter states my payment terms are for 24 months. The repayment plan began in XXXX of 2015. On XXXX XXXX, 2015, I received the attached letter from Great Lakes. The Great lakes letter has my monthly payment increasing, after just a few months of payments, over 240 %. With the next payment being due XXXX XXXX, 2015. If I call Great Lakes I am told to call XXXX. If I call XXXX I am told to call Great Lakes. I just received a job offer and I have to borrow money to relocate. Plus, missing a payment could damage my credit enough to cause me to lose the job offer. What is happening is not right. Please investigate for me. Thank You, XXXX

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: This complaint concerns a private student loan held by XXXX and serviced by Great Lakes. I began paying on this student loan in XXXX XXXX. From XXXX XXXX to XXXX XXXX I made every payment and additional payments worth about {$5500.00}. I made additional payments because of my plans to get a XXXX ; by making payments ahead I hoped to avoid making payments while enrolled as a XXXX student. Before describing the substance of this complaint I note that I had another student loan which I paid entirely during the XXXX period. I was scheduled to begin graduate school in XXXX XXXX. In late XXXX I called Great Lakes to ask about deferment. In particular I wanted to know if my best option was to go onto deferment or wait until the time in which I was paid ahead ( at this point, about XXXX years ) was over and then go on deferment. I explained that I was enrolling in graduate school and wanted to avoid payments if at all possible. The customer service rep explained that I should go on deferment and any period in which I was paid ahead would simply be begin at the end of my deferment period. In other words, after deferment I would still have roughly XXXX years in which no payments were required. In XXXX of XXXX Great Lakes informed me that I was out of deferment and I would have to resume making payments ; they explained to me that the payment clock resets after deferment and any time in which I was paid ahead is nullified because of the deferment. The customer service rep I spoke to in XXXX had apparently provided me with bad information ; I had been told my " paid ahead '' period would begin after my deferment ended but now, according to representatives at Great Lakes, this is not the case. I am in the curious position of being paid several years ahead on a loan yet simultaneously having monthly payments. Because I am still a XXXX student I struggle to make the monthly payments ( I should be done within XXXX months to a year ). I feel that this situation is largely the fault of Great Lakes. I was told bad information by a customer service representative in XXXX the thousands of dollars that I paid ahead have all but vanished now. Great Lakes has been non-responsive to my requests. I have been unable to contact anyone in the company besides front-line employees. I believe that because I am paid ahead on my loan by XXXX dollars, and because Great Lakes has given me bad information, I should be given a period of time in which I do n't have to make payments or perhaps I can make reduced payments.

Complaint: I have been making my payments via automatic deposit. I have set it up so that I pay more than what is due. I recently noticed that my account said that my next payment is not due for another XXXX months. I had intended the extra money per month to go towards the principle of the loan. I called Great Lakes and asked them to do this. The customer service lady gave me the run around and eventually told me she could not do that. However, Great lakes website says that I CAN in fact do that and that there is no penalty in doing so. They are charging me interest daily and I tried to explain that I did not want to get charged daily interest on a principle that I was trying to pay down.

Complaint: I currently have {$38000.00} in private student loans. With the interest rate and payment plan that I am on ( XXXX ), I will end up paying to the loan companies about {$78000.00}. Which is more than XXXX my actual loan rate. Complaint: I am trying my hardest to keep this XXXX loan account and not behind - I make payments monthly, unable to always make the full payment as I am also making payments on my other private loan accounts. XXXX is telling me there is NOTHING - NOT ANYTHING they can do to help me out at all with lowering these monthly payments. I have called XXXX of times and spoken to nearly every department and explained my situation and have gotten nowhere. I am told over and over again that because it is a private loan, they ca n't do anything about it. Complaint: The company handling my private loan is called XXXXGreatLakes and I have recently noticed that they are not applying my payments correctly. I have a monthly payment of {$77.00} that is due on the XXXX of each month and I end up paying {$100.00} instead to pay down the balance or so I though. What this company has been doing is using that extra amount and setting it aside labeling it as " Paid Ahead '' total thus preventing me from quickly reducing the balance. I have contacted them several times now and each representative has refused to apply that past extra amount and all future excess payments to my balance. Right now there is nothing that I can do but ask for your help. I am already burdened with a massive amount of student loan debt and this just adds to the feeling of hopelessness.
