Complaint: My loan servicer is MyGreatLakes. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I spoke with a representative who advised me to apply for the repay program for my loans. During this call, he also represented to me that I would receive subsidized interest contributions through this plan. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I submitted my application for repay. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I called to follow up on my loan application and was informed that I did not apply for repay, was on a completely different plan, and that the information I was provided on the XXXX was inaccurate, as there is no subsidized interest contribution. When I asked what plan I was on, they were not able to identify the newly assigned plan. I was told I would receive a call back. I did not. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, I telephoned again to check on status. Still no one could identify the plan I was on or how much my monthly payments were to be. On XXXX XXXX, 2016, no one was still able to tell me the amount. As of today 's date, no one can tell me the plan and no one can tell what my next payment schedule will be.

Complaint: Student loan help seems to focus more on the younger generation. I finished school in the XX/XX/XXXX. My loans are well above {$200000.00}. I am in the income driven loan repayment plan. Because there are times when my income increased, I have to pay more money back monthly. I can not save to do some of the things I made a sacrificed to educate myself for because of how much I have to pay back. I am XXXX years old, a 21 year XXXX and can not save enough money for a down payment on a home. I did not come from a wealthy family. There was a time federal laws allowed students to write off loans through bankruptcy but that seemed to end a more students XXXX stated continuing through higher education. I am afraid to allow my loan payments to lapse because I do not want to hurt my credit. I have been told if I pay the loans for 10 years without a missed payment the rest will be wiped out. I want to live the American dream but do not know how. What are some other methods possibly that could be used to help those of us who were educated 20 years ago and have a large repayment debt?

Complaint: I submitted my application to renew my income-driven repayment plan before the deadline in XXXX. When asked to submit income verification, I mailed both mine and my husband 's paystubs. I was later notified that my paystub was insufficient and needed to send in a self-certified statement of self-employment income, stating either my monthly or annual expected income. At this time, I asked if my husband 's income verification was sufficient, and was informed that it was. I gladly obliged the request, with a statement of monthly expected gross income. I was then notified that that was n't good enough, and I needed to submit a statement of expected annual income. Again, I obliged, copying the requested verbage word-for-word. It was at this point I was informed that I needed to verify my husband 's income. Since I had already done so, had ascertained that his information was received and was sufficient, and had waited XXXX4 weeks between each request, I refused to participate any longer in the unnecessary back-and-forth. I called to ensure all necessary paperwork had been received, which it had, and submitted proof of acceptance of all necessary paperwork. It is now XXXX and I am still receiving requests for my husband 's income verification. I 've now made 4 monthly payments that I can not afford, and I can not afford to wait any longer for them to process my application.

Complaint: I called my federal student loan provider Great Lakes to confirm about item # XXXX : I 'm thinking of serving as a XXXX XXXX or XXXX volunteer and plan to request a deferment or forbearance on my Direct Loans. If I 'm not making payments during my service period, can I receive credit toward PSLF? The customer service agent ( I believe her name was XXXX ) stated to me that I would not be able to received credits PSLF, even though under the federal government its stated otherwise. The agent stated that I would need to make 12 separate payments and that I am not able to make the lump slums payment and received the credit for PSLF. I am extremely frustrated because, I am a hard working student working to keep up with my student loans and more importantly be smart with payment in order to receive PSLF credits during my services as an XXXX volunteer. I would like for Great Lakes to invest in honest and fair business practices. I do not think this institution should be acting as private money-hungry bank center. I also believe, the federal government needs to do a better job making sure that these private sector they partner with are honest and are in compliance with federal regulations. I am going to call them again with an attorney on the other line to process this request. It 's unfortunate that hard working citizens of this country have to go this far to get a fair treatment.
