Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX and I am filing a complaint on Cawley and Bergmann. I was shocked to find on my credit a debt of XXXX in XXXX or XXXX after running my annual credit report. I reached out to this vendor and they informed me that they were given my loan from XXXX XXXX. I did not understand what this debt was until further investigation which it belong to XXXX that had closed their loan offices in XXXX. When I spoke with them in XXXX, Cawley and Bergmann acted like they were a legal agency who was taking me to court so I out of fear begin payments of XXXX per month and eventually as they called once a year and informed me that I was n't making a dent in my account I increased to XXXX per month. Several times I was inquiring about how the debt went from XXXX to XXXX and they informed me it was because of interest. This year I did some research about understanding my rights and I was informed that a agency should not misrepresent themselves as attorneys and any threats made to the consumer are also illegal. Furthermore, when requesting to speak with the initial debtor I was told I could not and they were handling my account. When reviewing my initial documents and questioning the amount I owed I discovered that I only owed about XXXX. Because XXXX is no longer in business I was also made aware that they went bankrupt and that it may be possible that my debt is cancelled. I am wondering since I have paid Calwely and Bergmann almost XXXX am I still required to pay more than 50 % of my loan. I read that a consumer must only be made to occur only XXXX percent of additional fees.

Complaint: I have received XXXX voicemail messages on my cell phone from XXXX XXXX XXXX. They say their message so fast you do not even understand what they really want. Finally, after the XXXX call I called back. They were trying to collect a debt from someone who had my same name but kept calling me because my name was the same and I lived in the same state. XXXX XXXX, in their complaint department said they searched public records and got my number. I think they should verify more than names and phone numbers. I feel they were harassing me and I do not owe the debt and was guilty because I had the same name! These type of tactics should be stopped! Who do they think they are anyway!
