Can't decrease my monthly payments
Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I attended the university XXXX school on line. However to do the classes I had to get a student loan, which at that time I got approved for. Having said that I was approved for an amount that should pay for the entire cost, but it turns out not to be the case. XXXX more classes to finish the entire cost I was told that I do n't have anymore money so I will have to pay out of my pocket if I want to do the last XXXX classes. Something did n't feel right so I never get to finish my degree up to this day. Then one day I heard the school is under investigation, and the following day I had some one called offering me a student loan forgiveness and I will not have to pay back the loan. I did n't take the deal because I knew nothing about it or if it was a scam just so they could get my information. I was never able to make the high monthly payments they were asking for so they ended up putting me on forbearance. We are in XX/XX/XXXX and up to now each year I have to be on forbearance, because I ca n't afford the payment. I even filed for bankruptcy hoping that they will remove it, since they are under investigation but they did not an the total just keeps getting higher and higher with interest accumulated. This is now on my credit report causing lots of damage.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I have student loan with Great Lakes. I have a monthly autopay that has been set up to pay the loan. I 'm currently in school and have loans disbursed, twice when a loan has been disbursed Great Lakes turns off my autopay without my direct authority to do so. This causes an increase in my interest payments over the life of the loan. Great Lakes should not have the authority to shut my autopay off, this only benefits them financially, not the student.

Can't get flexible payment options
Complaint: I have a student loan with Great Lakes. In requested a {$0.00} dollar payment plan in XXXX as I was unemployed and working with a XXXX ( XXXX XXXX ) and unable to make my {$650.00} dollar loan payment. I sent them a request and copy of my pay stubs from XXXX XXXX. The repayment plan was never initiated ( although XXXX did ). I then changed employers three months later to another XXXX ( XXXX ) and submitted another request for a {$0.00} based payment plan. Upon their Great Lakes request I sent them a copy of my pay stubs and that requested was still pending as of XX/XX/XXXX. Again I contacted them about my pending application and Great Lakes stated they needed a copy of my Income Tax Return for XXXX which was faxed to them on XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX from the XXXX Office # XXXX. As of today I am still waiting for the payment plan to be approved. Every time I log into my account with Great Lakes it gives the status that my application is being processed. They recently put my account in forbearance but I am being charged over a thousand dollars in interest that would not have occurred if I had gotten the payment plan ( which the DOE / XXXX ) stated would be {$0.00} a month based on my income for 1 year and no interest accrued. It seems to be that Great Lakes is pulling a XXXX XXXX to get additional money from me that I ca n't afford. Can you help?

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I 've been paying on this private student loan for years. On XXXX XXXX, 2017 I received a letter from the student loan company stating that " We recently reviewed your account and created a new payment schedule. The previous monthly payment amount would not have paid your loan in full within your current repayment term, so your monthly payment amount needed to be adjusted. '' The new amount is over {$16.00} more per month. Additionally, when I submit a payment that is over the amount due the remaining portion is not added onto the loan each month. Its simply rolled over to the next month which they then say I owe less for that months payments.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I have a federal loan that I have been paying on for years. I do not make enough to pay the recommended payment so it has been on an income sensitive payment for the last several years. Due to this situation I am only paying on interest that is accruing faster then I can make payments. I will not ever be able to purchase a house with this debt and it is a burden for me to continue to carry. I will be paying on this loan until I die. Another issue is that in order to use the degree that I earned I would have to go back to school to be re-certified in certain areas.
Please offer any assistance that you can

Complaint: I applied to XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX, graduated with an XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX and wanted to pursue my XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX continuing my knowledge in the same field. Unfortunately, all of XXXX got shut down due to fraud and when I tried to continue with my credentials, that I supposedly received already from XXXX, the new institution ( XXXX ) told me no one will be accepting any transfers or credits from XXXX. I am now responsible for a Federal Student Loan through Great Lakes Borrowers and I do n't feel I should be responsible to pay back anything due to XXXX going bankrupt and making promises they never fulfilled also for wasting my time in pursuance of a career that has no credential back up.

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: I am an XXXX in Ohio for the past eleven years. I applied for the XXXX Loan Forgiveness program to my loan company, Great Lakes Higher Education Corp. for the first time in XX/XX/XXXX, and have been denied five times, the last time because they said that I have not " obtained full state XXXX as a XXXX or passed the XXXX. '' That is incorrect. XXXX ( XXXX ) are the designated XXXX are XXXX, and XXXX design the XXXX. Ohio gives XXXX a different XXXX than other XXXX. But many XXXXs have received XXXX Loan Forgiveness as XXXX, so perhaps their state 's give a better-sounding name to the XXXX or perhaps the same XXXX as a typical XXXX. But whatever a state 's standard may be, it is completely arbitrary and should in no way restrict an eligible and worthy XXXX to these much earned and needed benefits. For the loan companies to have the authority to deny a loan forgiveness eligibility for a loan that they own in the first place is questionable and should be illegal. My desired resolution would be for Great Lakes to send my application on to the federal Department of Education for approval for the XXXX Loan Forgiveness in the amount of {$17000.00}.

Complaint: I was attending college to become a XXXX when I found out I XXXX. I was out on XXXX by my doctor due to being sick and XXXX. I told my program director about my issue and we decided that taking the rest of the quarter off would be for the best. A few weeks later I received a letter in the mail from the school stating that I was being terminated from the program due to my " lack of attendance '' and that I could not return back until my loan was paid in full. I had since been informed that there was no documentation about my request for the time off and that, since there was no proof, there was nothing they could do. I 've been applying for income based repayments and deferments that put me at {$0.00} payments but interest is still accruing. I now have XXXX children and I 'm trying to resolve this issue. I 've tried everything I can think of. Interest is still building and at this rate I fear I 'll never be able to get ahead. i just want this as resolved as I can possibly make it.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: My Great Lakes, servicing my private student loan for XXXX student loans, is holding on to my Student loan repayment for interest while they send me on a wild goose chase to provide proof of the checks that were sent. I qualified for a military Student Loan Repayment Program ( SLRP ) in XXXX. The SLRP required my lender/loan servicer ( Great Lakes ) to send out a form with my account number, verifying the amount I owed. After several hours on the phone in XXXX and XXXX XXXX, I found out that Great Lakes sent out the form with a wrong account number ( form is attached signed by a Great Lakes Research Specialist ). They have received checks for just over {$14000.00} at the correct PO Box address since at least XXXX XXXX, but now claim that since the account number was wrong on the checks, they can not apply any payments to my account and need me to provide copies of the checks sent to them in order to find the said checks. The only proof I have that money has been paid is the XXXX I received for the payment. Since the military is such a large bureaucracy it is taking a long time for them to provide copies of the checks. Meanwhile, Great Lakes continues to hold {$14000.00}, which I imagine has been cashed into an interest bearing account, while waiting for me to provide proof they cashed the checks. So that when I do provide copies of the checks, they will apply it to my loans. I should not be sent looking for checks after they provided the wrong account number.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I have XXXX Parent Plus Loans on one account with Great Lakes. They have always been paid in full & on time with auto-debit. In XX/XX/XXXX I started paying an extra {$200.00} as part of the auto-debit. Two places on the Great Lakes website state " once scheduled monthly payment & all outstanding interest has been paid, excess will be applied to the loan with the highest interest rate, thus costing you less interest over time. '' Also under " How Payments are Applied '' it states " When it comes to excess payments you have more flexibility. We automatically apply excess to : 1. Accrued interest since your last payment 2. Principal of the loan with the highest interest rate ''. The {$200.00} extra was not applied as promised to only the higher interest loans which is going to cost me more over the life of the loan. XXXX of my loans have 7.65 % interest rate & the XXXX has 6.16 % interest rate. Great Lakes applied a portion of my extra {$200.00} payment to the loan with the lowest interest rate. In XX/XX/XXXX my payment of {$490.00} was divided so that the 6.16 % loan received a principal payment of {$100.00} prior to adding the extra {$200.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX I added the extra {$200.00} which non of that should be applied to this lower interest rate loan but the amount allocated to this loan went up every month even though the total principal amount is going down. XX/XX/XXXX, {$120.00} principal payment was charged & XX/XX/XXXX {$130.00} principal payment was charged. They are using my extra payment to pay down this lower interest rate loan! This is very wrong! How many thousands of people are getting ripped off?

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: MyGreatLakes lender keeps inappropriately allocating my payments. Every month I make the minimum payment due plus an excess amount and I ask them to allocate the excess amount 100 % to the 'unpaid principle balance ' of a sub loan that Ive chosen. Instead they continue to NOT do this and place the excess amount towards my next due payment, thus delaying when I have to make the next scheduled payment and failing it apply it directly towards the 'Unpaid Principle Amount. ' When I then talk to them on the phone about this mistake they give me false information and a run-around conversation tactic claiming they do n't know how to explain this too me and refuse to fix the issue. They continue to tell me, there is no on else available to talk to, and they end end the conversation with me, saying that they are finished talking to me, and place me to a voicemail. When I searched the name of the finance manger whose vociemail they connect me to it dose not even show up on XXXX, which leads me to believe that this is a fake person : XXXX XXXX
