Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: I have just completed my degree, but I have received no statement telling me who owns my different loans. I have been receiving random letters from various loan servicing agencies such as XXXX and ACS, but they all have different dates at which payment is due and different terms for repayment. I submitted a request for an Income Based Repayment plan on XXXX. Using their IRS disclosure system, it was very quick and simple to complete, but it was only valid for my Dept of Ed and XXXX loans. ACS apparently wo n't allow customers to apply online. Instead you must download, complete, and mail a XXXX page form buried deep in their website. It 's a pain to complete and most certainly is designed to keep students from pursuing this option.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Don't agree with fees charged
Complaint: This is a parent plus loan. This loan was was opened with XXXX Bank in XX/XX/XXXX. I think I may have converted it from Sallie May to this because I was led to think that I had to. The original amount of this loan was {$18000.00} but I still owe {$18000.00} as of XX/XX/XXXX. I had some difficulty paying through some of the years and I think some months some payments were deferred. I can hardly imagine that I still owe almost as much as the original loan after all these years. I am now retired and this is a great hardship on my wife and I. I hope, some how, there is some relief I can get from this loan.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Non-federal student loan

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: I took out a large private student loan with XXXX XXXX XXXX in 2006 to assist with tuition at the XXXX in XXXX, OH. The loan was cosigned by my grandmother who is now deceased. XXXX XXXX XXXX was found to be dealing with institutions to essentially receive kickbacks by having said institutions feed students to their private student loan products ( myself included ). Because of this, the company filed bankruptcy and, unbeknownst to me, my loan was sold to another lender : ACS. The life of the loan to this point had spent most of its existence in a state of deferment as I was still pursuing my XXXX XXXX. When the loan was sold from XXXX to ACS, the terms of my deferment changed and I was left with none. At this time I was just beginning XXXX and realized my loan had changed hands when I called to reinstate another 6 month in-school deferment period on the loan. I was told I had no more deferment time left on the loan and that I had to immediately begin making monthly payments. I did make the payments, although it was always difficult as I was in XXXX, essentially living off of federal loans and a small stipend given to me by my school to get by. The monthly payment quickly became more than I could handle and my payment history became spotty. I repeatedly called ACS asking if I could enroll in some kind of payment plan that would allow for a lower monthly payment but was refused. Consequently, I missed many, many payments. Upon graduating with my XXXX, I cobbled together a decent income by working XXXX jobs : XXXX. My payment history became better for some time - it was a this time that I noticed that despite ALL of the payments I had made the amount of the loan only continued to grow. I realized that ACS was putting all of my monthly payments toward the interest on the loan, so I called to request that a portion of my monthly payment be put directly toward the capital of the loan, instead, but ACS refused. So I watched the loan grow and grow despite my best efforts ( XXXX jobs ) to make what was already a difficult minimum payment for me. I eventually was unable to keep XXXX of the jobs going simultaneously due to scheduling conflicts and I missed several consecutive payments as a result. When I DID have enough money to make a payment, which was in XXXX of this year, I saw that the loan had gone into default. I scrambled to call ACS to see if there was any way I could rehabilitate the loan or come back into their " good graces '' but was referred to their collection agency and given a phone number to call. Upon calling the collection agency, I was told that they " could not find my name in their system '' - - I offered alternate spellings of my name but the agent stated that the loan was not visible to her. I was told I would be contacted by their agency if anything " showed up. '' It was not until 5 days ago that I received correspondence from an entirely different collection agency. I am now stuck with an enormous amount of debt ready to hit my credit report. I 've done a really good job staying on top of all of my other student loan payments through XXXX and XXXX XXXX, as well as my credit cards and other monthly expenditures. I have worked very hard to rebuild my credit and I have finally secured permanent, XXXX employment with hopes of purchasing a home this upcoming XXXX. I am so scared to deal with this collection agency and fear wage garnishment. I would like to settle with the collection agency but have read that they usually request half of the total balance : an amount that is far beyond me. I would very much appreciate any help the Bureau might be able to offer me - I am at a total loss at the moment.

Having problems with customer service
Complaint: I got my loans through XXXX XXXX. They were taken over by Acs. I have multiple late payments on my account. I have disputed all of them and had some removed because Acs " had no record '' even though they had reported to credit agency they were late. After multiple disputes, I was able to get some off. I expreressed my frusterated to Acs multiple times that when they had reported these late payments that there was no person to talk to when I initially got my loans bought by them. It is not since this last two years have they changed their system. They will not now backdate any of my deferements or forbearance and are reporting I am late, even after I used their automated system to get my payments postponed. I told them my loans are being consolidated. I never have had any issues with my XXXX loans or when XXXX had my account, only Acs. There are multiple times I have applied for postpone payments and then they are showing up late. It is so hard to work with a company that is not accurate on reporting their information.

Complaint: I have been trying to get my loan that is currently consolidated with ACS-Education Services to be transferred over to XXXX which is the student loan forgiveness program through the government. They will not release my information to the company, I have made many attempts. I have even made a complaint to the XXXX Group who is still trying to retrieve information from them with no success. They keep raising my IBR payments when I submit my paperwork or they lose it and say that I have n't sent it in. I have really had a hard time with this company for some years now and it seems that I 'm not the only XXXX. I am in a waiting period to see if the Ombudsman group can find out whats going on. In the meantime my information is not being put in the system correctly when XXXX has tried to retrieve the loan or they keep changing my status. I have been billed for this month on the XXXX but for everything that I have been through I feel that I have to refuse to pay until they release my loan to XXXX. I 'm on here because I do n't want ACS to mess up my credit while going through this.

Trouble with how payments are handled
Complaint: I have been paying my student loan through ACS Education Services for 10 years. Never missed a payment, and have never been late on a payment until recently because we are going to pursue legal action. My principal balance has increased instead of decreased. All my payments are mostly applied to the interest and not the principal balance. I am on a FIXED rate plan but the interest seems to be variable and calculated by which day i pay. ACS is saying i owe more than what i originally took my loan out for. How is that possible? In the end they want me to pay DOUBLE what my original loan amount was. How can they get away with that? I understand that some of the payment needs to be applied to interest, but the majority of it should not!

Can't repay my loan

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Can't temporarily postpone payments
Complaint: Hello, I originally took in this loan over 3 years ago, the reasons I have not paid the full amount yet is mostly economical, I went through a divorce 5 years ago and I am a single mother supporting myself and my daughter. I have deferred or ( forbearance ) payments for a total of 36 months, ( I had no knowledge the maximum time for forbearance was 36 months and that I had exhausted that time limit ) I was offered the option on the phone to get this done once more and I did it. My plan was to pay this in full when my tax return arrive early next year since I will finally be receiving incentives at work starting next year. I phoned ACS sometime in XXXX to submit my request to defer over the phone and it was accepted, at no point or time I got a denied note telling me it was actually denied. I went on and about thinking my account was in forbearance until I get a warning from XXXX telling me ACS had reported negative information in my file. I understand I exhausted the time limit but I did not know I did, nobody contacted me from there to let me know and to start making payments! I begged them to please remove the negative information from my report since my credit score dropped more than 60 points! I am finally trying to get a loan for a house and this is not helping me. I have friends who have been able to put their accounts in forbearance for multiple years, none of them are of XXXX descendent, which is very strange. I spoke to ACS and let them know I could me XXXX payments from XXXX and starting XX/XX/XXXX I can either get back into full repayment or pay the account in full. The stated the are obligated under FCRA to report negative information if the loan is n't paid as agreed, or account is in suspended payment, I understand that but I was under the impression I WAS in that status, had I known I was not I would have start paying somehow. What ACS is doing is keeping me from going forward in life, all I want is the negative information to be deleted from my credit reports because I did not know my account had exhausted 36 months of forbearance.

Dealing with my lender or servicer

Student loan: Federal student loan servicing

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: I have numerous XXXX loans that I consolidated years ago at XXXX. While working my government job, ( over 10 years not ) I found out that there was a program that repaid you federal loans. The requirements were 10 years gov't service, 120 on time payments, in good standing, and qualifying loans. So roughly around 9 years ago I called ACS to verify that my loan with them qualified. I was informed that yes it did. All I had to do was make sure I made the 120 payments. I am almost finished doing that and found out that there was a way to have PSLF program check the information on me and give me an exact date that they will be taking over the payments. I received a letter of their findings and was informed that my loan with ACS ( my XXXX loans ) in fact did n't qualify. I told them that there must be some kind of mistake because I called to check years ago to make sure they did qualify and was informed that they did. I was told by the people at PSLF program that I now need to transfer my loan to a direst loan and make 120 more on time payments to qualify for the program. I explained to them that I was already doing that, and was almost done. They told me that even though it was from the Dept. of Treasury, it was n't the right loan type. Even though I was already told it was, it did n't matter.

Received bad information about my loan
Complaint: ACS has not been in contact with me consistently since I needed to start repaying back my loan. When I contacted them, they had the wrong address and updated me on payments. When I called to make my first payment, I was told I qualify for a cancellation, all I had to do was fill out a form and get a paper from my principal that said I was a XXXX at the school I teach at. I mailed in the documents and I was denied. I was then told I needed documentation that was on an official letterhead head, an official seal, & the date signed. I got that paperwork and heard nothing back until I received more documentation two weeks later saying my loan was going into collections. I called and immediately threw a fuss because I had done everything they asked. They told me in order to get it worked out, my principal needed to specifically state " XXXX, '' I protested by saying that no place in America has " XXXX '' teachers and me having to do that was unnecessary. I went back to my principal a third time and requested that pointless piece of documentation and sent it off. I thought I was in the clear until today I check my mail and see that again I am denied because the date on the documentation was incorrect. I am being harassed and threatened. I am being made to feel like I have something to hide and that who I am is not adequate. I have spent the last five years earning XXXX degrees and the amount of titles I hold XXXX would show I am clearly XXXX and an important one. I have been belittled and chastised by ACS and disregarded for. Their communication is lacking, and their flexibility is none-existent. If anything, it seems as though they want me to not go through with this process although I was advised to. Not to mention, all of the information they require is verified by the state. All of my credentials and positions are public record yet they refuse to take that initiative. I am using this time to file a complaint and contacting my lawyer.
